There should be a way to override "can't see"

It is a problem when you need to lay down suppressive fire on an enemy position. You would be able to target that spot if the enemy unit were not there, but since the enemy unit is there but your unit can't see it, it won't allow you to fire on that location.

Sometimes it will target it for an instant(such as with an enemy mortar, that goes in and out of visibility), but then the unit defaults back to defend mode.

Force firing on an enemy unit's location even when you can't see them would save a lot of headaches.

My only workaround is to fire somewhere NEAR the enemy location. But sometimes even this is not possible.

You must to send scouts in an elevated zone to see it, sometimes you can see the smoke of a mortar firing.

what I mean is that a unit should be able to target a location on a map even when they can't see the enemy that is located there.

you can target a spot on the ground, but as soon as an enemy unit that your unit "can't see" stands on that ground, you can no longer target that spot to suppress that location. so you can't have a machine gun team lay down fire just because they can't see the enemy there. But if the enemy were not on that exact spot, you would be able to.

Suppression fire has always been with Close Combat. In the old tutorials they would actually teach it in the "Bootcamp" Suppressive fire never requires that you see the enemy. The enemy will panic because it does not know whether or not you see it or the exact location being targeted. Just like in real life.

That seems like a reasonable point. I will add it to the task list.

Cheers

If you have a screenshot / save that shows the situation you're describing that would be helpful.

As a side note, if you use area fire (targeting the ground) your soldiers will shoot 1m above ground level, creating grazing fire. So even if you target an area short of the enemy the bullets will fly on and still cause suppression.
