SC3 is a very different game than WarPlan and it depends on your taste. I own all of the SC series.

SC has events and decisions. WP does not.
WP has stacking, SC does not.
SC has nicer graphics
WP has greater depth
A.I. are roughly the same in different ways although SC has better scripting to help A.I. because they have been around for years where WP has been around for 1 year.

WP plays more like a wargame such as World in Flames

Both are good games. Usually players who like SC, like WP. Think of them as 2 different flavors of ice cream.

I think I have owned every Strategic ETO WW2 Hexagon, Grand Strategy game ever released except World in Flames. There may be a few exceptions I didn't hear about or were fringe.

Strategic Command 1 through 3 are all good for their time. SC2 Was really high quality for it's day and stands up today in graphics and interface. Strategic Command 3 was done well and was entertaining. Though I haven't Played SC3 since 2017 I played it extensively. Been writing with Hubert since 2003.

This is a new game with a lot of qualities from Strategic Command and CEAW. I would say in flavor I feel a little bit more of Commander Europe At War which didn't have the glam in graphics that Strategic Command developed. I have to say though I was shocked at the level of strategic options and far less exploits I found in it. There was more a focus of winning by performance instead of Capitol Capture or total destruction of an enemy Military in the field.

If you appreciate that title and Strategic Command you should appreciate this one. The Dev is putting his time and effort daily it seems in also creating a more refined product and we have yet to see all the features/balance and details that shall come. I have played this almost as much as SC3 and enjoyed it.

I know this long winded but I would give it a go.
P.S.
1. Big Point: Air cannot kill Land Units
2. There is manpower and oil restrictions
3. There is a Victory Point system on Performance rather than total Victory by conquest.
4. There are abstract naval aspects and air aspects that take getting used to which are neat but confusing to some at first.
5. Slight learning curb but after 5 games I'm getting the hang of it.

I starting WP after playing a ton of WiE and WaW. A couple of questions:
* How do you use HQs? In WiE they're critical for supply and combat bonuses but not sure what they're doing for me in WP
* To attack supply convoys, do you park subs on supply routes or is something else needed?
* What's best to build as Axis?
* What are other things that will trip up a WIE player?
* What does a red circle with a white target on top of a unit mean?

1) HQs:
HQs increase supply in their area and improve surrounding units’ combat effectiveness depending on the general assigned to the HQ. I like to use them before attack to assign supply trucks to a group of units.
2) Attacking supply convoys - Correct - place a sub in RAIDER MODE on the convoy lines. 3 is the max subs you can stack. It will attack merchant shipping and escorts.
3) I found I like building, Assault, Heavy Tanks, Interceptors, Escort Fighters, Close Support, Long Range Subs. The rest is your preference based on your strategy. You will need to build trucks and if sealion is a strategy, landing craft too.
4) WIE not sure?
5) red circle with a white target on top of a unit means enemy action. They mark where combat has occurred. If you go to the Combat Log menu, and click on the target, it will show you the combat that occurred at that location.
Welcome to WP, great game.
