Lets say I wanted 1944 troops in the sicily maps.

once i monkeyed with some file that looked like FP definitions for each op, but no edits worked. I tried small simple changes and not a lot of time with it.

Is it possible, to create a NewOperation, save it and then. Re-edit the default pools for that one save game?

then instead of a m5 and a lanky HT mounted 75, i could actually use a sherman tank in a new setting, and my german opponent would have upgunned MkIVs n Panthers, but overall the same default operation on everything else?

In the battle scenario files lines 10 & 11 define the main forces for the Allies and Axis. Lines 12 & 13 define the support forces. There are two versions of Battle scenario files. Those in \Close Combat - The Bloody First\Campaigns\MAIN\DATA\BATTLES\ are the stock versions used in ops and camps. Those in \Documents\My Games\CloseCombatTheBloodyFirst\Scenarios\ are user created stand-alone scenarios. With some modification, the two versions are interchangeable.

To have 1944 units in the Sicily campaign you’d replace the main and support forces on lines 10 – 13 in all the stock battle scenarios that take place in Sicily.

The only force definitions in op and camp files are main force upgrades (much like CC3’s unit upgrades). Available forces are defined in the battle scenarios.

It certainly used to be doable in classic CC eg. SgtWilson’s CCReq tools for CC4&5. Now, possibly, but I havent identified any save file offsets other than battle settings. That task looks to be rather more complicated than it used to be due to TBF’s IDS_ naming conventions.

The simplest solution for what youre looking to do is edit the forces in copies of the stock battle scenarios, then use a mod swap tool like JSGME to package these copies to be swapped in as a complete mod. That way you can toggle between stock TBF and a ‘44 Units in Sicily mod with one click. JSGME can easily swap between stock and multiple mods. It can mix and match mods as well. The chief problem with using any mod is that save files have to be named according to their mod so you can swap that mod’s files in when you intend to continue playing that save file.

These are support forces and are defined by lines 12 & 13 in the battle scenario files. In your case you would replace instances of 61 (M5) and 67 (M3 75mm GMC) with 63 (M4 Medium tank). For the GE you would ensure that line 13 in the battle scenarios you intended to use had 99 (Pz VA Panther) and 101, 102, 103 (Mk IV F, G, H models).

Thanks for this info, managed to take a baby step and got a panther added to the germans at Gela :0

What file has all the unit numbers for reference?

And the values for default forces too.

I created a folder of images for all the units and formations that can be used in the scenario files. Much easier to visualize all the units in a given formation this way. Best if viewed by large icon. A text version of the scnunits list is one of the sheets in the preliminary workbook.

this is exactly what i needed. thanks. I have been able to make small support unit modifications here and there to make the force pools a bit more flexible in operations.

Now i have played with this a bit, I ended up making this chart. Its the Default Force Pools for the maps and creates force pools for operations. This comes in really handy when planning.

With your permission, and duly credited, this sheet will make a nice addition to the annotated workbook. I'd only suggest possibly adding a unit count per map/difficulty as the smaller maps restrict the number of available unit slots.

"italians" LOL ... hoi polloi with weapons you mean.

cool. go right ahead. Ya...when it came to italians and support...there aren't much of a match, so i didn't make the effort to put their full details down. There is also the '2' map version files missing and i left out omaha for now. Eventually I may expand it.
