A walk through, you are CO of a BAOR Battle Group, (this AAR may be helpful to new players playing NATO.
Again, it's a 'Meeting Engagement' where both sided are moving towards contact.

Right Lads, your attention please.. our job today, is to seize Nordheim.. dig in and hold it, stopping Ivan from getting the Bridges.
There will be NO retreat.
"Ol' man Townsend will get us all bloody well killed" muttered Tosh.

1/ setup basically as two Company stacks with 'Assault' movement with a mad dash into Norheim, a risk I'll take as there's morning haze and low visiblity..
This looks sucidal but the Battle Group will spread out as it approaches Nordheim.

2/ Two Troops of Challengers have occupied the Improved Position that overlooks Nordheim and surrounding area - a supurb position, compliments of the RE.
Right on que, forward ellements, BR2 recons are spotted tangled up in an obstacle (abatis - felled logs in a Herring bone pattern across the road),
are shot to pieces...
The rest of the Battle Group start digging in on the eastern side of Nordheim - excellent ambush positions as Ivan comes trucking round the corner or through the Wald into an 'unoccupied' Nordheim...The Scorpion Recce has been sent south to a high ground to keep tabs on the south easterly approaches, especially needed eyes on the mined road N285 leading into Nordheim - no point in laying mines if you can't cover them.

Contrary to my two limit stacking rule, this is an exception as the 'over stack' won't be spotted if Ivan bounds out of the adjacent woods or comes face to face with the dug in Battle Group around the road. The sheer volume of firepower will be overwhelming..
I don't use 'reserves' - units tucked away back behind the lines, always found that when I want to use them the firefight is usually over. My 'reserves' are already in the Line - Co.HQ's with their accompanying Armour on Hold, these HQ units will move to a hot spot if required (casualties are usually high but I need that Armour now not later.

3/ The Company Mortars have moved into position on the western side of Norheim and are given Smoke missions on the two Challenger Troops in their Improved Position and on the Mech Inf. Co. adjacent to the woods.
The Battle Group now has access to Off Map Arty, their first Fire missions are to laydown FASCAM - Scattered Mines, northeast adjacent to Nordheim to prevent Ivan from overrunning the Mech Inf.
While this has been happening, Ivan's Armour shows up, T80's, just where their previous BR2 recce got stuck in the abatis obstacle.
Smoke engulfs the Challengers in the nick of time and start picking off the trapped T80 Companies. The mines have deployed, this creates the perfect Ambush.
..And a Flight of Lynx Helos have come in to aid support, these will move in when safe from Anti Air. Helos are good game changers.

4/ Heavy Radar and Radio traffic is located down the valley where Ivan is coming from, off map Arty is given concentrated Fire missions on the main road leading into Nordheim. Mi24s are sighted and harassed by the Mortars and 109's. Our Lynx keeps it's distance, the Mi24s will engage air to air if it gets too close. The Battle Group's AD is woeful just a section of Javelins located with the Armoured Sqd. HQ.
The T80's have breached the road obstacle but have taken a terrible hammering, suppressive Artillery fire has knocked out God Knows what on the road and woods but there is less Radar traffic. As suspected Ivan comes crashing through the woods,
...and into the mines.. the slaughter begins.
The first assault wave has been smashed, no minefields have been breached and the mortars keep pouring smoke onto the Challengers and Mech Inf. in Nordheim.
Arty keeps hitting those Mi24's while the Lynx gets ready to strike..
'a near run thing' thinks Townsend..

5/ An uneasy calm has returned, when suddenly a Flight of Su25 Frogfoots scream out above the woods and strike Sqd. HQ, - "where the bloody hell are my Javelin Team!" - "Didn't see em' Sir.." Sqd. HQ got shaken and took some losses..
Artillery got lucky and destroyed the Mi24s at NOE. And now for the Lynx flight to wreak vengeance as another assault emerges through the woods, the T80s stumble into yet another minefield - sitting Ducks.

The engagement has been going on for just under two hours and the Battle Group has suffered no direct fire losses except for a few vehicles from an airstrike.
If I continue, I have to fight for four more long hours till the senario timer runs out, just to pick up a few more points..

Not worth it. - Battalion preservation/cohesion is more important - especially if you're in a Campaign.

"Good show lads - out" Townsend.

Thanks for posting the AAR. I have a hard time with Green British counters.
