Is someone able to give me a quick rundown of how best to manage your Soviet support units? Did I read somewhere that no more than 3 can participate in a battle? I am running through my HG and some have as many as 10 support units, which I'm guessing is a bad thing?

Is there an ideal mix of support units per HQ? Thanks.

Bad thing, no...

Remember an Army may be involved in 10+ battles a turn

I usually have 2 Howt, 2 Corp Art, 2 Sapper, AA, mortar, motorcycle, construction....

In 41/42 you are short of manpower and armaments points. Some players disband AA to free up 100k in manpower, some reckon motorcycle are crap....I build lots of Howt as after a TOE change there are 500+ in the pool so ap cost is low. Tank Bt are good as they are low im manpower. Ski batts get a bonus in in snow...TD batts are useless but thye did upgrade to Regiments? And you will need construction to repair rail when you go on the offensive.

Rail repair units will also help in fortification too.

Problem with motorcycle units is they use a lot of vehicles which could probably be better used elsewhere?

Tanks SUs also upgrade to regiments so a very good way of using the surplus tank pool with little else.

Section 15.4 of the manual covers SU commitment. Summary of 15.4.1: The base maximum of SU that can be committed is 6, plus up to 3 extra artillery by the defending HQ, plus up to {fortification level) extra by the defending HQ. In light or heavy urban, base maximum is 18 and not 6.

Great, thanks guys. So an HQ with even 10 or so is ok. Much appreciated.

Hi Tele, Vehicles are no longer an issue. As at T46 in one of my games 181k (50k)...then again perhaps my games don't last long enough (sob)
