So I've been a longtime lurker of these forums and have come across a lot of old scenarios (from Alternate Wars to Vietnam Combat Operations) and have only just started getting into the game by playing a few scenarios. So I am asking for guidelines on general game options I should choose for old scenarios (new supply, new turn, variable initiative), and also which scenarios I should apply the New rules too as I assume a majority of them only support the old TOAW 3 rules.

I usually turn all the game options on except for "no borders" which I leave off. I haven't noticed any major problems yet. Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you're here.

It is doubtful many of the older scenarios have been adjusted for the new features in TOAWIV. When playing a TOAWIII or older scenario I would suggest turning off any of the new features. However, some have no way to turn off so the scenario may not play as intended.

alright thanks, so just to clarify it'd probably be fine using all game options on except for no borders for the default scenarios, but for older ones I should probably turn off all the game options labeled as new?

No borders is optional. Works in either version so doesn't matter. For older scenarios that have not been modified with TOAWIV turning off the new stuff would likely work best. Modified with and saved with are two entirely different things btw. But even at that there are things that in TOAWIV that are different and you can't do anything about it. But things should work ok in general.

Bottom line, shut off the new stuff and have fun. ;)
