The line painter was inebriated?

Hi Mr Yank - this is from the Highway Code:

The approach to, and exit from, a pedestrian crossing is marked with zigzag lines. It also means that you must not park on them or overtake the leading vehicle when approaching the crossing. Parking here would block the view for pedestrians and the approaching traffic.

Personally I've always taken the view that its an order for drivers to start Zig-Zagging.

As one approaches the zebra crossing one naturally slows down. This makes the threat of torpedo attack much greater; hence the need to zig zag. Seems I was wrong all these years...

I was! A few years back my elder warspite recorded at the Abbey Road studios with the LSO. She, and other selected children from east and southeast London, played with the LSO at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. And I Will Kiss and Nimrod were recorded there so that they could play the studio version at the actual ceremony.

Why not adopt dazzle patterns to confuse U-boat captains?

I tried it but there was a problem..... it completely dazzled oncoming traffic too...

It's their own fault if they can't hold their assigned position in the convoy.

Interesting, perhaps air cover is the answer?

That would be optimal but you know what the police and the authorities are like about low flying aircraft in heavily built up areas... they are just so unreasonable.

Double decker buses offer superior visibility and a higher elevation for boarding actions.

But depth charge capacity is strictly limited, as is the problem of placement for the hedgehogs. Apparently London Transport wanted to incorporate a limited depth charge weapons system on its new Routemaster design, but there was the usual rubbish complaints from passengers about the effect on leg room. So selfish.

A Joint Committee on urban underground warfare is urgently needed.

The Joint Committee on Urban Undersea Warfare has been formed to prevent the dastardly Hun from sweeping the streets clean of Allied vehicles. Working in great secrecy, they have developed the hunter killer urban submarine.
