I've downloaded MCDF, and have tried several times to install. I have the directions for newbies, however they don't seem to apply here because the download does not include SPWAW. When I attempt to install the exe createsa second Matrix folder and installs there, even when I "browse" to proper folder and select it. I also get 3 error messages each install attempt
ERROR: could not move file(s) (#3, Line 3)
same message line 6
and again line 9
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

IS the second MAtrix folder inside the one you chose? If so try installing to the parent of directory you want it in. I thought that problem was long ago fixed...may have cropped back up?

no, it's another complete seperate folder. My previous one has SPWAW and MCLV working fine in it. The new one just has mega df in it, no spwaw

Did you try moving it in to the folder with your other MC in it?

I tried to move it, still wouldn't show up on menu when SPWAW started. Could someone give me what the correct path is that the extraction should go to (into an existing copy of SPWAW with LV already installed)? What about those error messages too?
Thanks,
Tim

tmac,

What version of MCNA (Desert Fox) are you installing?
The original CD's were either version 5.1 or 5.3.

Lost Victories was 7.0.

How did you get the base game of WaW? Download or from the MCLV CD?

Thanks Jim
I am trying to install my brand spanking new download of the DF MC. Minutes after they went on sale yesterday I bought it and downloaded it. I have SPWAW v 7.1 installed from a cd of Lost Victories (with appropriate patches for SPWAW and MC applied). This works fine, I've played both regular SPWAW and the MCLV often. I thougth about following the "newbies" directions again (which helped me install what I have now) but it doesn't seem to be applicable. The download MC does NOT include SPWAW, so I didn't see how I could follow those directions with regards to a complete uninstall/re-install. I did do that back when I was loading MCLV, because the cd has SPWAW loaded. It seems like trying to retro fit MCDF into this mix has some issues. I am hoping for some guidance or suggestions.
Thanks,
Tim

Have you downloaded a bunch of extra scenarios or campaigns?

Ok, this is going to be uncharted territory.

First, copy all of your saved games, campaigns, or email games you have going into a different, newly created folder that is NOT located inside of the SPWaW directory. A temporary folder in windows should work.

The saves will be inside of the save folders inside the main directory. There is a different save folder for the MC's by the way.

When those are safely tucked away somewhere, I would suggest that you uninstall SpWaW completely. This is why you moved those saved games somewhere else.

Then you need to have auto-insert notification for your CD turned off. Reason for that is so that when you put the LV cd back in, it doesn't try to install the whole thing.

Browse the CD using windows explorer and look at the items you see. Find the one that is just basic SPWaW and install that only.

Then try to install Desert Fox into the same place. Then follow the Newbies Guide for the sequence to put all of the other MC's, patches and updates into the game.

Then turn your auto-insert notification back on.

Having those saved games will enable you to stick them back into the correct save folders.

At worst you have just wasted some time trying to get it to work. At best, it will all work just dandy.

I really don't know officially just what Matrix has put up for downloading yet, nor do I know the status of whether they come already patched or what. I am awaiting a reply from Ross about this. I'm just a gaming grunt like the rest of you, but I try to help if and when I can.

When I hear something from Matrix and I get it sorted out, I will be trying to amend those procedures.

Good luck.

Can you give me an idea of what the proper paths are for the mc's? I was trying to just copy the MCNA into my current SPWAW directory and am confused. There are both a Lost Victories folder AND a mega folder, with subsequent stuff underneath those headings. What should be where (and in what order) in a properly installed setup. If this is too much a pain in the rear thats ok, I realize this isn't your job.

There should be a main SPwaw folder. Inside of that there will be a folder that says megacampaigns. Inside of that you should see folders that say lost victories and I think save also. Open up the Lost victories folder that's inside of SPWaW and look at whats in it. Then do the same with the folder that that if I understand you correctly is Lost Victories but outside of SPWaW. If all of the stuff is the same, you have a duplicate install. Desert Fox needs to go into the Mega campaign folder that is inside of SPWaW. Try the copy- paste method and see what happens.

If all else fails, open Windows Explorer, expand your directory tree so you can see both of these folders you are talking about and do a "Control C". This will copy that picture. Open up a blank word document and do a "Control V" . This should paste that picture on the document. Then attach that word document to a new post on this thread and I should be able to see what you are looking at.

Kinda tough to do this sight unseen on both ends, isn't it.

Noticed after installation that inside the folder "The Desert Fox-41" there was another folder "MegaCam" with yet another "The Desert Fox-41" so i ended up with the files in:
C:\Matrix Games\Steel Panthers World At War\MegaCam\The Desert Fox-41\MegaCam\The Desert Fox-41
I then moved all files from the second "The Desert Fox-41" folder into the first and also the file "The Desert Fox-41.cfg" from the second "MegaCam" folder into the first and then removed the now empty folders.
In the MegaCam folder i now had the files "mainsplash" and "The Desert Fox-41.cfg", the folders "Save" and "The Desert Fox-41", which contained the folders enc, lbm, pic, shp, snd as well as all the files i moved in my first step. Rebooted and it actually worked  although i haven't had time to start the actual playing yet...

I see the problem, from your posts. Easy fix, I hope. When the installation path comes up during the installation, you need to remove the space between Matrix Games(MatrixGames) then the installation should install in the correct path. This cropted up during the original 7.1 patch upgrade so I guess this is the installer the're using. The default path for SPWAW has always been C:\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World At War Give this a try and see if this resolves your problems. I don't have the new downloadable installer so I can only base this on what your reporting. Good luck.

I tried this on my laptop where the folder is named MatrixGames with no space, but i had the same problem then. Maybe the solution is simply to install into
C:\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War
and not into the suggested
C:\Matrix Games\Steel Panthers World At War\MegaCam\The Desert Fox-41

The default install path DOES have that space, so I got rid of it and ran the install. Still got 1 error mesage about being unable to move "line 3" (see previous post above). When I start SPWAW and select megacampaign I still only see Lost Victories though, no selection for Desert Fox! I explored directory and MCNA seems to be in there now, I just can't access it from menu. I will kep experimenting, and hope for some guidance or luck. I will report back soonest.

Tried the above on the laptop and it worked fine, that is during installation change the folder to install into to:
C:\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War

It appears we have a winner. Spenser do you get the copy file errors, using the proper path C:\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War?
