The first attack is on Reims, and automatic. The result is not converted to retreat. Which of the three defenders will be shattered?

And, if it can be decided on now, what combat tables will be used for the two Japanese attacks?

It is a beast of an attack to be sure. We have been punished for not playing with 1D10-landcombat för a 20 years and it changes things quite a bit. The roll of 1 in the 7:1 attack into Germany was quite punishing as well.
The only thing that is a bit comforting is the use of both O-chits

Weather dice are more important than combat dice. I believe Germany rolled very poorly on their first attack as well as the French (and the Japanese, iirc). I will try that cross-Rhine Surprise Impulse attack at even 5:1 if the Germans have all GARR in the area, but the price of failure is a thin line in Belgium if the Germans are coming.

The difference between 1d10 and 2d10 is mostly seen across a series of attacks; 2d10 attacks can fail just as likely. In the 2 key attacks for Germany in Belgium, they rolled rather 2d10 like, and just below average (which is 5.5 or 11 on 2d10) by rolling a 5 on each of those attacks.

France First is a powerful strategy if the weather works out. There are a number of possible Allied responses.

WiF is a subtle game; small decisions accumulate. An attack across the Rhine to activate Yugoslavia wrecks France First fairly well, sometimes. High risk, high reward, a bit like France First itself, which risks things in Poland, and often Denmark as well. Storm impulses and short turns can see Germany bogged down in multiple countries while handing lots of nice 1939 entry chits to the USA while gaining very little in the Low Countries.

One choice, skipped in this game, is for the Allies to keep the Polish air force in Poland. Though it helps to deliver the Persian oil to a Polish city, which is often possible when Germany is light on units in the east; particularly so when they roll a bad combat roll and many of their units become disorganized - not uncommon when a lot of Luftwaffe is in the west. Then on the reinforcement phase a new Polish unit arrives to protect that oil point for a time. The Allies here did at least keep the Polish HQ and infantry division in Poland, rather than intern it for future CW use, as many players do almost automatically.

Also the Allies Surprise Impulse air missions can be used to hit the German HQs in the West. Far bigger gain than strategic bombing with a success on either of 2 dice. Hitting the tri-border hex with the French bomber in this game was good, but unlucky, this time; I would probably use the bomber to help cross the Rhine however and let the RAF have a go at German mobilization centers.

Italy informed me that if we had moved our forces slightly different during the last impulse, then we would have been able to block France from reinforcing Paris. Then we would have had a 5:1 assault on Paris now (50% chance on 7:1 - modified for weather).
