In the current version of EiA, when I start the game Windows warns me that a file called "earmsrez.exe" wants to launch. I don't recall this file launching with previous versions.

What is this file and why is it launching with EiA? I don't like it when I start one program and it launches another, apparently unrelated, file.

I'm pretty sure it does something regarding license check for your registered program? Not sure why this is different than other Matrix games, but then again I'm not sure about a lot of stuff for how Matrix/Slitherine packages this game and the updates. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Thanks, but I actually don't get this message for any other Matrix or Slitherine games. Don't mean to be paranoid, but in this day and age, I think it is prudent to understand what is launching on my computer and why.

If I ask in the Tech Support section, will someone from Matrix answer?

I got a response from Erik Rutins about this:

quote:

"Earmsrez.exe" is part of the standard copy protection and serial check that shipped with EIA. This was standard for our games at the time and modern Windows with more cautious settings is not as happy with it. There's no way around it other than to remove or re-do the copy protection/serial check though.

It would be nice to see a complete rebuild of the game installer, updated to 2020 and the latest version. Certainly there is some effort required, but I don't see why Matrix could not do this periodically for all of their games. Whatever, huh?

OK, thanks--I'm fine as long as I know it's from Matrix. it's odd that windows only recently started complaining about this file, but whatever.
