I looked back and Billfish made a successful attack in the same hex 109,62 on May 08, then another one earlier on May 15 before getting slammed later that day. Staying in the same hex raises the risk of too high a DL, which means the ASW ships can find the sub easily. Are you doing one-hex patrols or cycling them out to another hex every turn?

They are placed using Patrol around target. None will stay in same hex more than 1 day.

Armoured Amphibious forces in PH (I concentrate them here, since invading atolls and it is automatic shock attack, these guys are incredibly powerful and I don't need them in SWPac or SoPac where it is jungle and infantry country):

Some of the HQs in PH, note the Amphibious Force HQs that are preparing for amphibious assaults, do not confuse these to Amphibious Corps HQs that are just regular HQs, these guys will load to AGC amphibious command ships and give large bonuses when landing):

Infantry in Sydney preparing, note some leftovers from 1st Mar Div (it is in Milne Bay, but will be brought back) and I will also recombine 1st AUS Div for future use. I have plenty of PP, so why not. War has been already won. Also most of the divisions are preparing for Rabaul.

The Canadians were also good with the two-bladed lumberjack axe and the two-man saw ...

Good to see you back after the 18 day break - real life get in the way again?

This AAR is so interesting because your main advance is the Burma-Indochina route - or at least it has been. Looks like you have enough to start quickly moving in SWPAC and CentPac. Do you have a target date to begin Strategic Bombing of industry in Japan (not that you need the points)?

When I get Curtis LeMay and 20th USAAF into China. I have B-29s training in India and in Rangoon.

I have some favourites in this game and Burma-Malaya-Indochina to China is one of them. Thus the best 3 AUS divisions are there. Also for my amusement, I use mainly Brit/AUS divisions in Malaya now and having Indian and African divisions take Indochina and go to China. That would have been interesting. Got that by reading lot about Bill Slim, one of the most underappreciated commanders British service. He'd have done better in Europe than Monty, IMHO.

I always try to get 2 brigades of 8th AUS Div out of Singapore in early game and divert TFs destined there to Rangoon, especially valuable Gurkha brigade. I'd hate then to go to Japanese prison camps...

I play the game mainly for my own amusement for historical "what-ifs" and not really interested in winning..against AI you always win. So I am using my alternative strategy. Works for me.

Amphibious assaults have also been interest of me, so I have my own doctrine with them... Straight from movie Leon.."bring everyone"..with tanks. Actually after these years learned something, not only having AGC with Amph force HQ help in the hex, but having extra AGC in other TF helps them too. I hope I got that right from Alfred.

While many do not appreciate getting B-29s into China in late 1944, Japanese definitely did...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Ichi-Go

That was to neutralize US air bases in China, among other things.

One other thing is what I call "refit-fit" (what happened to me right now in June 1 1944, not real fit but lot of major combatants went to refit).

When planning major operations, check that your ships do not go to refit just before or set then not to refit. It can be incredibly frustrating. Especially if they are your CVs or majority of amphibious ships.

Especially if they are in a front line port in danger of being attacked!

Kind of annoying not to be able to tell the dock workers "don't bother, we are out of here!" "If it floats, it goes!"

For these reasons, I have upgrades off at game start and if I allow some ships to upgrade, when I see them mentioned in the Ops report starting their upgrade I go to the port and turn off their subsequent upgrade. No extended leave for the crew until I say so! (but a suitable gift might make my decisions go their way sooner)...
