"The entire time I was playing, I didn't feel like I was wrestling with the interface, I was immersing myself in an engrossing experience, one where I was learning how to lead a small city-state in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Oh, and did I forget to mention, this game has a variety of nightmarish alien monsters that might show up and attack you? Yeah, it has that too."

Matrix: I have decided to buy this game after reading wodin's review and first two paragraphs of the first AAR. Please comp him the next 5 of your titles.

wodin: While typing this, my wife called - she said it was about a file conversion I did for her work, but I think my impending purchase made her wallet nerve twinge. Anyhow, while basking in the (rare) moment of spousal praise, I mentioned said purchase and received spousal authorization. I am grateful that I was not forced to make an unauthorized purchase, as that would be like stumbling across a hostile AI battlemech while alone in the woods. :)

I bought the game on day one and have been playing every evening since. Vic got my money, but I feel I need to leave a little note about just how much I'm enjoying this game. I don't mean to be dramatic, but this may very well be Vic's lifetime achievement; surely, this is a new milestone in strategy gaming. We always complain about stagnation and lack of innovation in our favourite genre and then this thing drops... Just look at the amount of CRAFT that went into this game: the manual, the backstory, the wealth of interlocking systems, the little details. I mean, we're all entitled to our opinions I suppose, but when I open the forums and see posts like "THE GAME IS BROKEN!" or "THIS SYSTEM MAKES NO SENSE!" it breaks my heart a little. Man, I can't begin to imagine what it must feel like to publish something you've dedicated all your energies to for years on end (as it's clearly the case here) and have some random commentators dismiss it so quickly and so brazenly. So, I thought it might help to add my voice to this post and give a little encouragement.

WORD!

Bought this game on day one, too. Of course this game has its little wonkyness here and there, but everytime I think about complaining, I get info about the beta patch and lo and behold: it will be improved! I do not play the beta tho.

This is the best game of the year for sure for me.

The good thing is, we have all the information in the reports. The bad thing is, we have all the information. Maerchen, 2020

Came for SE. Will stay for SE.

How many "nightmarish monsters" is there totally? Just a quick question for something that may be obvious to others.
The more the merrier.
Oh and bookmarked: "A Wargamers Needful Things".

Technically, infinite, as the critters are procedurally generated!
