They've all got it in for me! And for you too.

And I'm not talking about the enemy powers...

Have you seen how corrupt some of these people are in your government? It's jaw dropping how much some of them are thieving from us. No wonder people wonder why their economy just died.

You gotta respect a game that has attributes for corruption AND thievery.

You must use democracy. I've never heard of democracy.

Actually Democracy is said to help against corruption in the ingame text when you have a Decade of Corruption. But I don't understand how (or maybe there's no how and it's just higher Democracy is less chance of theft or gaining corruption points?).

Yes I have 3 people on the take now, and all of them are about 50 points beyond the maximum I can roll with the 'Investigation' stratagem.

it's funny, at first I thought that internal investigations was supposed to be how you dealt with horrible corruption and leaders taking 4-digit credit values from you.

then i saw the mid-150s to nearly-200s difficulty ratings, checked against a skill that has no natural use cases and as such never increases, and went "yeah no it's much easier to just relieve-and-retire and deal with the mood fallout"

I've been more angry with my own leaders constantly messing up pissing off the locals then I am with other regimes declaring war on me. Where is my waterboarding card Vic? I think if I'm running an autocratic government I should be able to remind my minions why failure or thieving is not an option. :)

The lower their happiness, the more leader events they initiate.

The mistake event is triggered by the leader's unhappiness; the players choices and those subsequent fix rolls are as stated.

This is not to be confused with population issues associated with their own happiness and unrest. Just keep fear at a tolerable level.

Also:

quote:

ORIGINAL: Manual, Section 5.8.1.2, Other Key Stats

Loyalty

If Relation is higher than loyalty, then loyalty will usually slowly go up. And the reverse is also true: if Relation is lower than loyalty, then loyalty will usually slowly go down. Low Loyalty (<50) combined with low Relation has a big impact on the chance if any unsatisfied Leader events will occur.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Manual, Section 4.4.3, Factions

A good Faction Happiness (>60) will give you the increasing chance to receive Faction Stratagems from them. While a bad Faction Happiness (<60) will give you an increasing chance a problem will arise with this Faction.

Indeed. Happiness close to 100 on all my leaders and I get some nice peace and quite for about 10 turns. It is worth paying them more to stop the downward spiral.

I'll add this too; I keep my Word score high and always stick to consistent standards in my decisions. I will not agree to every goal demand. I don't try and sugar coat to keep leaders happy. I find that Leaders will actually move their beliefs according to my decisions over time. Leaders who don't, commit suicide by falling from high windows.

Argh the Supreme Council leader himself is my biggest one on the take, gone into 4 figures now. He is at 97 out of 100 on the importance scale so I'm fearful of dismissing him and most of my leaders are all his faction too.

I'm not at all sure I can get the roll for the Investigate Leader card even with a bonus card roll on it and some savescumming.

Where's those assassinate cards when you need them?

You need to have 2-3 feats in Autocracy for them I think.

I've been relying pretty heavily on murder to deal with leaders I don't like too; it seems the most effective option by far.
