Thought I would share this with everyone. Started a new game against the AI and thought I would try this scenario. After 2 months of just trying to sink as many IJN ships as possible while they were trying to supply GG and PM, I decided to attempt the capture of Lunga on 9-1-42. I had previously mined the heck out of both Lung and Tulagi, so I attempted a previously succesfull move of landing the entire 1st Marine Div. at Taivo and march to Lunga to attack. Pulled this move off great, even caught (what I thought at the time) a "bombardment TF" by surprise at Taivo and Mr. Lee commenced to destroy the entire task force including 1 CA, 3 CL's and 5 DD with no losses. The funny thing was this task force had the carrier Junyo with it. Yep sunk it too. The very next turn, Surface combat.....same place, Carrier task force....including the Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu and several CL's and DD's. Shot them up pretty good and as they retired one of my subs put a fish in the Akagi. Here was the surprise. As the 1st Marine DIV started marching and got about 12 of the 30 distance traveled they stopped and went back because, as to my surprise, the japs had landed about 18,000 troops behind me at Taivo. How this happened with all the ships Lee was tearing up is beyond me. Now, they have pretty much insured their demise by wasting so many ships but now the 1st Marine Division is in a stalemate until I get some more troops up there. At this point in the scenario, I don't have many Inf troops and am just trying to keep them supplied. This would have been an excellent move on the AI's part had I not suprised them with Lee and 5 CA's and 6 DD's. I don't understand the use of a TF with Carriers to make the landing or it may have been a TF I didn't see. But imagine the smile on my face when suddenly the surface combat screen comes up and there are carriers that have been surprised. Simply wonderful! One other thing, I noticed in the Aircraft reinforcment screen in this scenario that there are no P-38's scheduled to arrive at all. Anyone seen this before?
