Download: Beveled Units and NATO Symbols v4.1 download (added full-color critter images with no NATO symbol conflict)

Unpack the zip file contents to your ...\GraphicsAlt and ...\Graphics folders

Click the down arrow in the upper right then click "Direct download".

The ...\Shadow Empire\GraphicsAlt folder will be created with NATO symbols, and

Hey man, those counters look a lot better now! Very nice! You're just missing clipping the corners now! :)

Clipped corners!! Holy crap, you're showing your age there - but I love it.
Consider it done - v2.0 coming shortly.

Back in the 1970s and 80s, clipping was an essential prerequisite to setting up the game - oft done in parallel to learning the rules.

I was just kidding of course - I'm not a wargamer but I know you can buy a tool to do that.

Just god done playing and man those counters look good. Bravo.

It was particularly important back in the good-ole-days... The physical cardboard-counter production from many wargame companies of that era was marginal at best. When 'punching' out counters, often big plumes of frayed cardboard was left at the corners which could wreak havoc with tall stacks. They demanded a good clipping. Boy, all nostalgia aside, in many ways I'm glad those days are in the past.

Well... "in the day" I was too cheap (still would be) to purchase counter clippers.
So I just used toenail clippers instead .
They gave a sort-of rounded look a little like that.

v2.1 available in opening post.
Fixed a color error on the smallest sized counters (used for zoomed out map)
Made the "clipped" corner rounding less exaggerated.

Actually unpack to ...:\Matrix Games\Shadow Empire. The overwrite.

Don't unpack in graphics folder as it won't work. If you do by mistake then enter graphics folder and then cut and paste the graphics folder you find in the graphics folder and paste into Shadow Empire folder, then overwrite. You'll know if you've unpacked into the wrong folder as you wont be asked to overwrite.

Indeed, correct! I have clarified the opening post text to be less ambiguous. Thanks, wodin, for noting this.

v2.2 available for download in opening post of this thread.
It changes a few of the symbols related to motorization/mechanization. Also, heavy, medium and light tanks have different symbols.

-Mark R.

p.s., the ones in green/blue color are the ones I haven't run into yet in the game, so I'm not sure what they should look like yet.

Is this one new? And thanks for sharing your terrain and road/rail mods. They combine to make the game more enjoyable!

I no longer understand how to install this mod. I had no problem with the version 2 series, but I cannot figure out how to make the version 4 NATO symbols work or why there is still a version 3. And I am using the latest beta v13.

When you download and open the zip file should see two folders, \Graphics and \GraphicsAlt.
Simply drag the two folders to your C:\Matrix Games\Shadow Empire folder.

Let me know if that isn't working for you.

User error. I was installing it correctly, but I forgot there is a switch in one of the menus that has to be selected to get NATO units.

Duhhhh.

Regardless, you still should have seen the beveling on the units, even without the nato symbols.

Is there any reasonable way to get mech inf to show as something beside regular inf?

So, currently, we are limited to these NATO images:

Those NATO images are applied as shown in the Image File and Orig Image columns of the following table.
If I change a NATO image, it is applied to every formation that uses that image.
It's quite a puzzle - if anyone can see a better combination, I'll be happy to modify the mod!

Thanks to DTurtle for his excellent work listing all the formations in SE - that gave me an invaluable jump on this effort.

How do you download this mod? I have clicked the link, been forced to sign into the "box" and create an account, then attempted to download and nothing happens. I have spent a couple of hours going round in circles trying to figure this out. I have used two different email accounts to setup two accounts. Nothing works. Is it possible to place these files in an easier to download location? Please?

Very sorry for this skausmaus!
It seems something has gone wrong with the app.box.com that I was hosting the mods on. Both this and my other terrain mod went dead there this week. I wonder if I'm being limited for number of downloads - downloads had been working fine and suddenly started failing shortly after the steam release of SE - coincidence?

In any event, I have rehosted the mods on dropbox.
Try the link in the opening post now.
