I feel like this could help deciding what OOBs to operationalize next.

This is the basic gist:
There are armor based units and infantry based units.
The armor based units have mainly tanks (either Light, Medium, Heavy, or Tank Destroyer) plus assorted support units.
The infantry based units have mainly normal infantry plus assorted support units. They only ever have light tanks as tank support.
Basically all base units also have motorized (trucks) or mechanized (APCs) versions.
In addition, infantry based units also have "Heavy" types, which include more of the support units, but less infantry.

Armor based units (all included support units are either motorized or mechanized):
Light Armor, Armored(medium tanks), Heavy Armor(heavy or monitor tanks), Destroyer - 100% tanks of the appropriate type.
The above plus:
Infantry: Tanks + Infantry
Assault (NOT Assault Infantry!): Tanks + Infantry + Artillery
Grenadier (NOT Grenadier Infantry!): Tanks + Infantry + Artillery + MG + RPG
All the tank based units have either trucks (if nothing mentioned) or APCs (if mechanized). On foot variants do not exist.


Infantry based units:
Light Infantry: Infantry
Assault Infantry: Infantry + Light Tanks
Siege Infantry: Infantry + Artillery
MG Infantry: Infantry + MG
RPG Infantry: Infantry + RPG

Grenadier Infantry: Infantry + MG + RPG
Storm Infantry: Infantry + Artillery + Light Tanks (Prior to 1.04b3 some have RPGs instead of tanks)

Assault Grenadier Infantry: Infantry + Light Tanks + MG + RPG
Siege Grenadier Infatry: Infantry + Artillery + MG + RPG
Storm Grenadier Infantry: Infantry + Light Tanks + Artillery + MG + RPG

Like I mentioned above, all of those infantry based types also have a heavy variant, which roughly doubles the amount of support troops and halves the amount of normal infantry.
Again, all the infantry based types have foot, motorized and mechanized variants.

Unlocking guide for all infantry formations that are in the huge list below. Please note that you have to have at least one relevant model type developed. So if you want Siege Infantry, you need to have an artillery model available.
Also, this tree is identical to the tree for upgrading & downgrading formations. You have to move along this tree to go from one formation to another. Each tank tree is independent (so no switching from a light armor to an armor formation, or from an infantry formation to a tank formation).


For every formation in that list there are heavy, motorized, mechanized, motorized heavy, and mechanized heavy variants. After unlocking the formation, you automatically unlock the heavy, motorized and mechanized variant. Researching the heavy formation unlocks both the motorized heavy and the mechanized heavy. Researching the motorized also unlocks the motorized heavy (same for mechanized).


All tank formations have the same (but independent) research tree.

The ratios for add-on units actually varries quite a bit between the Echelons:
MG Brigade has 500 HQ Infantry, 800 Infantry/200 MG per Batallion. So 1/5th.
MG Corps hsa 900 MG/Regiment. Out of 3600, I think? So 1/4th.

However I do not think the acutall ratio maters that much. I think what you need is:
The Main unit. Infantry, Tanks, etc.
Any addons/opt in replacements.
MG Infantry is Infantry main, with a option-in for MG units.
While motorized have the motorized add-on.

(I'm somewhat in awe at the number of different OOBs to discover then operationalize. )

Really appreciated the hard work! I hope than in the near future we get a better system to design or create OOBs, but in the meantime this thread its going to my markers :)

Which is nonsense.

Walkers and Heavy Walkers make good replacements for light and medium tanks when engaging in mountain terrain. Sure, you don't have APCs available and as such can't move very quickly even with roads, but at least your forces don't get massacred as badly when trying to dislodge entrenched forces dug into a mountain you can't outflank and isolate.

The Walker is a Vehicle/Infantry Hybrid.

It has vehicle weapons and hardness.
But with combat modifiers like Infantry. Just halved entrenchment.
So they propably warant some totally new OOB's.

The monitor tank however? That thing is basically the Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte. It is the only tank idea I know to actually get close to the monitors Armor and Weapon mm counts.

Nothing for Walkers (only independent).

Monitor tanks count as heavy tanks for OOB purposes.

Walker supporting infantry OOB's would be good for adding some stiffening to them in rough terrain, but I don't think that having walker-based OOB's would work well as there would be some perverse incentives to remove the infantry/supporting arms from such units in some circumstances to give them walker mobility back. Maybe a way to get around that would be to add some more walker models(a self-propelled gun?) so that you can have all-walker OOB's as a mix of walker types.

Thank you for this resource, but am I reading this correctly and there are no recon units in the OOBs? Meaning that buggies and motorcycles are independent only?

That is correct, recon is only from attached units.

Of course the units of the T2 formation easily have 50 recon each, so they got no issues.
And even just two T1 Formations can sum up close to 100 recon.
Infantery might be bad scouts, but you got a lot of them...

I seem to have missed something. The guide states that unlocking the basic infantry formation unlocks the motorized, mechanized and heavy variants. But I have assault infantry discovered, operationalized and fielded even, but I didn't get the motorized/mechanized/heavy assault infantry even as discovered.

Scratch that. After a bit of thinking I realized, "unlocked" probably means ready to be discovered, right?

Exactly. Unlocking means that they CAN be discovered. You still need to make the random roll to discover the correct one.

This is why it is so important to be very careful with what formations you research. Almost every formation you research unlocks further ones to discover. So if you start researching some (useless) formations while waiting for the "correct" one to be discovered, you will be screwing yourself. The more formations you research, the smaller the chance to discover the formation you want.
