Well you got lucky in the previous August 27th result,

Dean should only ever engage in CV vs CV engagement with LBA support otherwise he will need extreme good luck.

Their is a AAR where two USN CV's were able to take on the whole KB and win, obviously that didn't happen.

The allied pilots did not have the exp to take on the elite Zeros thanks to loses and attrition from the other CV or LBA vs CV battles.

The weather was very favable with Heavy Rain being the second worse weather to successfully attack ships, which is why KB didn't get a scratch.
While the USN got heavy clouds which is much easier to attack with most of the strike force getting through CAP.

Pretty much it was a predictable outcome even if the USN/RN had a good dice roll, which it didn't get.

If Dean's moral hadn't collapsed, Japan could've had rare fun in the West Coast of America or Pearl Harbor but it's great that the game was saved.

I'll probably might go over to Dean's side and cheer him up with some videos and images or something about how America should most likely win the war or something.

Edit: Although I rather prefer not to bump threads that haven't been posted on for over 20 days...

September 1st

Spotted some cves near kodiak heading west. They might just be AO or TKs but dean might be attempting to resupply/retreat his troops on Adak once my carriers are gone.

Bad weather has grounded most air operations in india and china recently so not much to report there. Dean retook Hyderabad with some tanks a few days ago before I could rail in reinforcements but has again left the base undefended. I'm gonna paradrop the base again this time with the 1st para division which should be able to hold out till I can rail in more troops.

In china ground troops are flooding into the central plains near chungking. I've taken kieko north of chungking and am moving on the two other central chinese bases which aren't chungking. Once those bases are secure I'll move on chungking and begin the siege in ernest. The air field of chungking has been constantly bombed for the last few months so dean hasn't been able to increase the forts for a while now.

Dean has been too busy with school and perhaps too disheartened to consistently post to his AAR unfortunately. I think hes kinda given up on his AAR, so I'm the main cartographer of this game right now, which is a shame. I've definitely glosses over some stuff in my AAR, and obviously you guys have missed out on the allied perspective.

Thank you for you analysis regarding how important weather was in the outcome of the battle. It hadn't even occurred to me that the battle might have been so decisive because of the weather.

Running a good AAR is a labor of love. The armchair quarterbacks don't understand that. You've done well with this one. Keep up the good work.

I should also mention that when we assumed that the game was dead we both ended up sharing passwords and rerolling the results of the turn a couple times for fun. The best result Dean got was 3 bomb hits on my CVs total, with my carriers still coming and sinking most of his TF.
we have both changed our passwords, but I ended up looking around at what dean was doing at the time (when we both assumed the game was over) and pointed out to dean a bunch of **** that he wasn't doing or should fix. Hopefully that help him a bit in the long term. Also apparently for what ever reason the Pakistani Division that was supposed to spawn at Karachi after the emergency reinforcements were triggered did not spawn in, so 1 less division I need to worry about . The forts were last seen to be 4 and half way to 5.... Chungking wasn't much better stuck at 6.... So I'm a little optimistic that I might be able to take them both faster than expected. First priority is to slow down fort construction at Karchi which will be done by naval and air bombardment.

September 4th

a few days ago I laid a sub minefield at Noumea which was able to kill an xakl. Today some allied minesweepers cleared the minefield.

34 mines cleared

The main event today was the CVE's I spotted yesterday being confirmed to be heading to Kodiak as I-30 put two fishes into the Long Island. Unfortunately 1 of them was a dud! I think this makes it fairly clear that dean has not given up on Adak, he really should just write off the troops there and go elsewhere, but it seems that despite our recent carrier fiasco he still has tunnel vision on the Aleutians.

Near pago pago the I-131 torps a cargoship.

Submarine attack near Pago Pago at 149,161

Allied Ships

Also near Kodiak a large surface TF is spotted heading towards Kodiak. These ships were previously escorting the US fleet carriers, I wonder if the carriers were not spotted or if dean has just withdrawn them to keep them safe.

Over the Aleutians some P-38s sweep the dot base next to Adak, unfortunately some nicks on LRCAP get drawn into the battle. I lose 5 nicks but only lose 1 pilot killed in return for 1 p-38 shot down.

Also on a side note I am currently at a 4.184 VP ratio, so unless dean does something drastic, I'm gonna get auto victory. We already agreed to play on after auto victory if it occurs, but I suspect that it will affect dean's morale.

In terms of R&D news the D4Y1 will enter service next month, along with the J1n1-c and the D4Y1-c. I plan to convert the val factory to the Judy and a the C5m2 factory to the D4y1-c so the R&D factories can accelerate the successor airframes.

Dean is 100% trying to either reinforce or resupply adak/evac adak right now. 2 TF were spotted heading west from Kodiak one containing a bunch of cruisers and 2 BBs and one containing CVs of some sort. The IJN carriers just got back to Ominato and were able to rearm and refuel. They will sortie back to the Aleutians with the Taikaku this time. Adak has been reinforced by an SNLF brigade, and 2 SNLF guards along with a squadron of Nicks and a squad of Tojos. If he's trying to evac Adak I think my carriers will get there in time. Unfortunately the Vals were unable to unload in time at Amchitka so the Air transport TF will withdraw to the west for now. I have to say I'm surprised that dean is being this ballsy, didn't think he would be stupid enough to try this while I have my carriers up here. A light cruiser TF up at Paramushiro will also sortie and attempt to get around and engage his carriers in a surface battle.

September 6th Bombardment of Karachi

The Ise and Fuso class BBs conducted a night bombardment of Karchi that was uncontested by both air and Naval units. The BBs weren't even spotted I assume due to the heavy storms in the area. In case they were spotted, Carrier Divison 4 was on station along with the CVEs to provide LRCAP. I have to say it went as well as I could have hoped with about 150 planes destroyed on the ground. This bombardment will save me a lot of plane and pilot losses in my upcoming air campaign. I'll start sweeping as soon as the air base at Hyderabad is up and running again.

Up in the Aleutians bad weather prevents the NAVs from launching so we have lost contact with the allied relief force. The CVs will continue towards the Aleutians for now. a Bunch of the CVL fighter airwings were able to upgrade to A6M5s while at Ominato so my carrier force is even deadlier especially with Taikaku in tow. Its possible dean called off the attack after I chewed him out for launching such a hopeless and risky operation.

Dean launched another large air strike on Hyderabad today but unfortunately for him his sweeps went in after the bombers, and several of his bombers came in unescorted, and in a piecemeal fashion. The first wave was not pretty for dean.

The second wave faired even worse.

There are a few more smaller strikes that went in as well that I have not shown but suffice to say that by the end of the day dean had lost 126 planes while shooting down 42 of mine. I lost around 7 pilots killed with another 7 injured. I suspect that most of deans pilots that were shot down were lost.

The Ise and Fuso class BBs bombarded karachi today but found dean had laid a few traps for them. Some PT boats were guarding the harbour but the BBs and DDs made short work of them despite bumping into them at 2k yards at night... My guess is that the weather really helped here, although when I last checked the exp of the naval bombers dean had here a week back, their naval bombing skill was abysmal so I wasn't clenching my butt cheeks watching this.

Then finally the bombardment went through and it was pretty devastating but not as fantastic as the previous one. Naval bombardment is gonna make the siege of Karachi a hell of a lot easier that's for sure.

September 16th

Over the past few intervening days I have launched offensive sweeps which didn't go well. The next naval bombardment should help make up for those losses.

A TF of 1 CL and 2 DDs entered Bombay harbour today to clear it of PT boats in preparation for a bombardment tommorow. The TF found the expected PT boats along with a 4 stacker US destroyer. The crack IJN night fighters soon put half the PT boats to the bottom in a series of 3 engagements.

The BBs go in first by accident today, so they have to deal with the PT boat screen. Thankfully they don't take any damage and are able to clean up the PTs before bombarding.

An allied carrier was spotted west of Socotra up near Karachi. Most likely the Enterprise since its a little too soon for the Wasp and Yorktown to be over here. The carrier was detected to have around 30 fighters and 30 bombers. Carrier Division 4 sortied to engage but the TF fled off map after being spotted. I was a little sloppy today and didnt provide LCAP to the Cruiser TF going to bombard Karachi, and I paid for it with Mikuma receiving a torpedo from a biplane. About what I would expect tbh. The rest of the Bombardment group will carry on with the bombardment while Mikuma limps back to port with 30 float, 30 engine, and 20 systems damage. Mikuma will detatch and retreat south covered by fighters at Hyderabad, with bad weather hopefully covering her escape. Thunderstorms are predicted on all 3 northern weather sections of the map.

The good news however was that I've sunk a large AO and a Tanker over the few intervening days and Deans CAP is at the end of its rope up in Karachi. Further Bombardments will only make it worse.

The big news today is that the allies have withdrawn/disbanded all air units in Karachi, meaning the air war for India is over!!! approximately 500 allied planes were destroyed on the ground via bombardment with another around another 100 in the air. BANZAI BANZAI BANZAI. Now the grueling siege of Karachi well and truly begins. I'm gonna coordinate my first assault on the city with a bombardment by the BBs and CAs.

October 2nd

The Judy and Judy-c have begun production along side the J1n1-c.
I've switched over the Val factory to Judy and a B5N1 factory I had that was using up one of the old engine pools to fill out training units. I wont be making many judys until the end of the month, but I plan to expand my production up to around 90. All 120 R&D factories have remained to push towards the D4Y5. The A6M8 will go into production in about 5 days from now when the factory accelerates to the current month, Once its done I think I'll reinvest at least half of the R&D into newer fighter models such as the N1K1 and K-84a.

Ive been trying to probe Dean's Nav search in a way similar to see if I can conduct some surface raids in retaliation, but yesterday 2 AMCs were spotted and sunk by PBYs. I'm gonna start equipping my cruisers with Ruffes to protect them from PBYs.

Over Karachi I've begun bombing the manpower hoping to start fires and destroy supply. Not sure if this is more efficient than just bombing the air field. I really wish I had a heavy bomber for this job but the G8N1 doesn't arrive till 1945 with no upgrade path, making it kind of pointless. I'm currently flying my bombers at 12k feet which is high enough to stay away from 40mm bofors but should I be flying higher despite the decreased accuracy? I'm losing around 4-5 bombers per day from flak so IDK.

Allies appear to be attempting to resupply/reinforce Adak. A few CVEs are covering the landings along with at least 1 BB. Minesweepers went in first to clean out my mine and got shredded. I still have around 400 Mines in the base. Most of my carriers are not close enough to intercept. Carrier Division 2 is at Saipan, and will move up to the Aleutians. The rest of my carriers are protecting my BBs near Karachi. The Nagato sisters, Yamato, and about 6 CLs and a dozen DDs are on station to possibly intercept if he stays long enough, but the BB are just leaving Tokyo now after upgrading. Naval attacks on his shipping were repeatably unable to find their targets today so the 27 Vals I had up there disappointed the emperor. I plan to move 2 units of G4Ms up here to help in the future.

TF 88 encounters mine field at Adak Island (162,52) - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

YMS-96, Shell hits 7, heavy fires, heavy damage
YMS-95, Shell hits 4, heavy fires, heavy damage

In other news yesterday an h8k1 nailed a DD with 2 Torps that was poking around near the gilberts. Not a fair trade for the cargo ships they sunk earlier but at least some well deserved revenge.

In terms of Air production the A6M8 has been in production for a few days. I'm currently making around 220, but Once I fill out my units I'll shut off some of the factories.

snap shot of the Aleutians on October 8th

Note that 5 Allied BBs are supporting the landings at Adak but have used at least some of their ammo suppressing the coastal guns over 2 days.

What level field forts does your Army at Karachi have?
If you let them dig in to level 1 or 2 that should help reduce casualties in the next attack.
If you move them they lose their field forts and have to dig in from scratch again.

Hmm I didn't know that field forts would reduce casualties on the attack, not all the Divs have been cycled out yet so I'll leave the ones that didn't move outside the city. The rest might as well move back to Hyderabad to recover.

Allied support units continue to unload at Adak, and the coastal guns are having an easier time disrupting these activities. The BBs look like they are mostly out of ammo in their 16" and 14" guns.

In the Rabaul Area some B-17s are bombing some my forward air fields but I'm not too concerned by that at the moment as deans real thrust rn looks to be in the Aleutians. Most of my carriers are too far away to bother sending but the Shokaku, Ryujo, and Zuikaku are moving to engage his CVS which have around 50 fighters and 16 bombers.

On the ground in the Aleutians the Allies made their first attack which was repulsed a SNLF unit is currenltly being transfered via air to Adak, and will be followed by a regiment. Once the carriers and BBs get up here I also have a Division ready to reinforce the Island.

Nav search let me down today, I spotted what I thought was 6 DDs over near Funafuti south of Tarawa being resupplied by some AOs. A TF of 5 DDs and the CA Nachi went to engage, but walked into a much larger TF than what my recon was telling me. This was after a few days of the TF being spotted and even attacked by H8Ks which went for the DDs. The results werent ideal but not as bad as I expected. by the time the dust cleared I had confirmed to have sunk at least 1 DD at the cost of the CA Nachi and DD Usugumo. The rest will make it back lightly damaged.

Day Time Surface Combat, near Funafuti at 138,147, Range 26,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CA Nachi, Shell hits 27, heavy fires, heavy damage
DD Shiratsuyu
DD Akatsuki, Shell hits 1
DD Fubuki, Shell hits 1
DD Shinonome, Shell hits 2, heavy fires
DD Usugumo, Shell hits 7, heavy fires, heavy damage

Allied Ships
CA New Orleans, Shell hits 5, on fire
CA Vincennes, Shell hits 1, on fire
CL Helena
DD Hughes, Shell hits 2
DD Benham, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Ellet, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD MacDonough, Shell hits 3, heavy fires
DD McKee, Shell hits 3, heavy fires
CA Algerie, Shell hits 3
DD Kingston, Shell hits 3, heavy fires
DD Kimberly, Shell hits 4, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk

Up in the Aleutians the weather is supposed to clear so 36 G4Ms and 36 G3Ms along with 20 Vals will attempt to attack the Allied landing ships and BBs protecting them. Hopefully the weather is good.

The Betties didn't launch yesterday due to bad weather, It looks like dean might be preparing for a round 2, since he is still unable to take the base, I'm gonna reinforce Adak with the 9th Division in the mean time, And start building another base at Shemya Island as a reserve depot base, and to prevent the out flanking of my troops on Adak.

Not a ton to report today, Bad weather prevented air strikes at Karachi, but not at bombay. Additionally dean hasn't sent a second wave yet or attacked again with his troops on Adak . The 9th Division will probably land at Amchitka to guard the rear, and I'll move the regiment at Amchitka over to Adak.
