He should put them in a TF and run at full speed away. He also should have had them at Karachi or off map.

I believe that his decision to hunker down in port was heavily based on my initial attack around a week and a half ago where I scored a grand total of 3 250kg bomb hits on his ships... he likely under estimated/didnt know about the 800KG bombs which now that my torpedo armament was expended was my only serious way to hurt renown.

Well, he became educated then.

Dean still refuses to contest any of my ground pounding anywhere. In response ive decided to start attacking air fields where I know he has planes. My first target was the the flying Tigers based at Tuyun in south west China.

a similar is raid is planned to hit Calcutta in a few days.

I spotted 2 cargo ships cruising south of Ceylon for some reason. Either dean forgot to redirect them, or hes testing my local Nav search/ naval attack range. I suspect that he just forgot. The betties however could not find the target today.

In china we fail to take Kweiyang as he got 2 Divisions into the tile just this turn . I would have likely taken the base if I hadn't second guessed myself and waited 2 turns to head north fearing a Chinese counter attack from the south. Im gonna pull back after this attack and wait for reinforcements before attempting to head north again. At this point I think I might just bypass Changsha and the south and head right to Chungking to get this war over with fast.

In china Dean is attacking the flanks of my advance to the west, but his attempt seems pretty half-hearted. Only 4 corps in two different spots are moving into contact with my troops, and he hasn't attacked anywhere. He might just be probing my defenses and keeping me honest. The troops pulling back from Kweiyang are gonna move back and defeat these troops in detail before moving to a base to replenish.

Another strike on Bomb-bay. it appears that dean fled a few ships north this turn, but I'm almost out of ammo, and I don't want to risk my carriers anymore than I need to. In other news the Nick came online today, I'm going to start off building 60 per month. Might end up increasing production based on the need.

A6m5 was recently accelerated to 7/42 and I expect to accelerate it again in around 2 weeks. Hence I should have the A6M5 6/42..... All R&D factories will upgrade to the A6M5b and then to A6M8. The engine bonus is really helping with the acceleration, so I should have the A6M8 in time for the hellcat.

Today I attempted to displace some chinese units trying to contest my supply lines but the terrain got the better of me. I'm gonna post another picture of the situation in China and India on the 4th of May.

In india I failed to take Racchi again with my tank force at the northern end of the triangle. Dean is reinforcing the tile with what appears to be a brigade so the tanks will wait for the troops from the main thrust towards Asansol to take the base.

Cleaning up operations are still ongoing in Ceylon, but two divisions have disembarked at Cochin and will take up defensive positions. I've identified 4 Divisions in the south so I don't have any illusions of being able to push with my 3 Divisions. The south will hopefully serve to force dean to spread out his forces and prevent him for concentrating on my attack to the north east. The 2nd Division cleaning up troops on Ceylon will be sent to northern India to help break dean there.

Naval Info

Carrier Divisions 1 and 2 are still on their way back to Singapore.

Ise and yamashiro began upgrades today at Singapore, and the two tenryu class CLs began conversion to CLAA. Chitose also began conversion a few days into a CVL, I'm not sure if I'm going to convert her sister ships they are quite usefull for ASW and Nav search for my carriers.

The War in the Skies and Air R&D/Production Status Report.

Dean has pulled back what was left of his fighters in northern India So there haven't been any large air battles since the 6th of May. Dean has lost 300 Hurricanes since the start of the game along with 120 Buffalo's, so I doubt the British have many fighters left given his replacement rate of 21 Hurricanes per month.... His replacement rate throughout the game will be about 20% higher than Vanilla to make up for my sped up deployment of quality planes. Overall losses for the last few months have been pretty even with most of my losses being Operational casualties.

In terms of air production, Ive increased the sally factory up to 35 from its previous 25 to help replace losses and fill out new units. I'm gonna hold off expanding sally production anymore and wait for the Helen IIa. Oscar production was increased to 135 from the previous value of 115. I'm Probably gonna keep using the Oscar into 43 as an escort for the Sally/Helen due to its superior range over the Tojo. For all other roles however the Tojo will replace the Oscar once it comes online some time in 9/42.

The A6M5 is a few days away from accelerating to 6/42 (88%) and then all six Factories will move on to the A6M5b, and then to A6M8. The A6M2 factory will upgrade to A6M5 (in RA the A6M2 upgrades directly to the A6M5). None of the Tojo factories have fully repaired yet with the highest being 22/30. Maybe in another month or two I'll start getting some acceleration progress. Once the Tojo comes online I'll leave either 60 or 90 as R&D and put the remaining 60/90 into production.

reinforcements: 18th port unit

Not a ton happened today as dean has pulled back a lot of his plane after taking serious losses over the past week or so. 4 Divisions in northern India are moving to the next base in the triangle west of Calcutta. Dean has around 33k troops in the hex with another Division 2 hex's away. The tile is in good terrain so I might end up waiting for 3 Divisions that are around 1-2 weeks behind to catch up before attacking. The Tanks attacking the base north of Asansol are waiting for the 18th division to arrive in 2 days before attempting another attack against the 8k defenders. Once I take the base I'll head north and then around his defensive line to the south to cut avenues of retreat. The 14th Division will land at Chittagong in a few day increasing my Division count in northern India to 9.

In the SW pacific Dean's carriers appear to be attempting to attack by Cruiser TF at Port Moresby, which was escorting a convoy carrying 2 SNLF units which just unloaded this turn. The Cruiser TF and cargo ships will flee towards Darwin, but I'm leaving 2 small cargo ships in harbour to hopefully illicit a strike by his carriers. I've shifted 24 kates, a group of 36 G3M, 27 zeros, and 36 Oscars to Port Moresby. The planes at Port Moresby will hopefully be supported by an air strike from Woodlark Island where I have an additional 60 zeros and 60 G4M bombers. Maybe ill get lucky this time and get more than 1 torpedo hit vs a allied carrier.

The Battle of Torres Straight, May 15th

Today a serious air battle occurred right off Port Moresby near the Torres straight.

The Japanese air units embodied the naval Spirit of attack and succeeded in landing a blow first with 67 zeros and 21 G4Ms attacking the Allied carrier force. I'm not sure what the **** the other air wing from Woodlark was doing since they missed the memo, and didnt launch at all today. I guess I'll be firing their air leader and replacing him with a more aggressive leader. The air wing that did launch achieved impressive results scoring 2 hits on enemy carriers.

Morning Air attack on TF, near Port Moresby at 96,132

Weather in hex: Partial cloud

Raid detected at 64 NM, estimated altitude 10,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 22 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 67
G4M1 Betty x 21

Allied aircraft
Martlet II x 5
F4F-3A Wildcat x 16
F4F-3 Wildcat x 10
F4F-4 Wildcat x 16

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 2 destroyed, 12 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed by flak

Allied aircraft losses
Martlet II: 1 destroyed
F4F-3 Wildcat: 1 destroyed

Allied Ships
CV Hornet, Torpedo hits 1
CL Birmingham, Torpedo hits 1
CV Enterprise, Torpedo hits 1

The strike package from Port Moresby unfortunately was less successful achieving no hits and taking heavy losses. The Kates refused to fly despite being well within range, albeit they probably would have been slaughtered if they did launch.

Morning Air attack on TF, near Port Moresby at 96,132

Weather in hex: Partial cloud

Raid detected at 76 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 30 minutes

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3A Wildcat: 1 destroyed
F4F-3 Wildcat: 1 destroyed
F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed

Allied Ships
CV Enterprise

During the afternoon the true heros of the day fly another sortie of 9 G4M bombers from the same unit that scored 3 hits earlier. The bombers pierce the cap and score another hits on the Hornet leaving it burning and heavily damaged. I doubt she is an abject loss, but if hornet is unable to get out of range for a second strike tomorrow I suspect she will be a goner. excessive OP losses in the air losses report hint that the fire on hornet is serious, as it appears that a mass ditching of planes from hornet occurred due to the flight deck being rendered unusable. I cant remember off hand what size fire is sufficient to prevent air operations but I believe its around 15-20. Plz correct me if I am wrong.

Morning Air attack on TF, near Port Moresby at 96,132

Weather in hex: Partial cloud

Raid detected at 27 NM, estimated altitude 12,000 feet.

The Allied Counter Attack

Unfortunately dean was successful at catching some prey, albeit probably not what he wanted. The cargo ships departing Port Moresby were not fast enough to get away and were attacked by a large carrier air strike resulting in the entire cargo tf being lost. The cruiser TF was fast enough to get away in time and is moving to Soerbaja to resupply before heading back to the SW Pacific.

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships

Ok I have a question for you guys, im currently trying to convert the CS chitose to a CVL It has no damage and is disbanded in Nagasaki which has a sufficiently large dockyard. furthermore I have the ship set yes to upgrade.... not sure what my problem is.

CS must be done in Tokyo. Its a special conversion that must be done in your capital.

Great AAR going so far. My only comment is to not expend too much on defenses on the outer areas of the empire. Just as now for the IJ KB, when the allied Death Star is formed, there is no target that they cannot subdue. They do not have to take everything, only what they want and isolate everything else. The trick in the late mid-game for the IJ is to know when to start voluntarily contracting her empire.

Sure you resist in the Mariana's at least somewhat, but it isn't the best place for a major stand. Force him also to nuetralize Babeldoab and Iwo, both are G3M3 range to Mariana's, both of those locations are far better to stage a fight at ... etc. You pretty much know where he wants to go, think that through and be ready. Don't waste supply on places that cannot be held. SPend some for sure, but just remember every ton you spend will NOT be there in the HI later ... taking a lot of atolls up to level 3 forts that will never be defended adequately because either you withdraw OR the allies simply isolate is a waste of supply ...

Thank you for the input Pax I've put a great deal of thought into fortifying regions in the 2nd line of defense Around truk and Saipan. My comprehensive defense of the Solomon islands area is not representative of my defenses everywhere. Base building in the Gilberts for instance is quite modest in comparison, with 2 SNLF guards and some engineers to build forts. In the marshals I have a single SNLF defending Maleolap, along with some flying boats. I'm fortifying the Solomon Islands area so heavily because I highly suspect my opponent will attempt to counter attack here in a couple of months, and due to Deans apparent interest in the area. The death star has been at Sydney most of the game, and he has a large majority of his subs in this area. On top of this hes raided the area with his carriers twice now in the space of about a month. Overall my plan is to initially conduct a forward defense to prevent territorial losses in 42 before switching to defense in depth by 43. The Truk and Saipan areas are already being fortified, but I have not given much thought to Babeldaob. I'll move a engineer unit there in a week to help build up the base.

Battle of the Torres straight Round 2. May 16th

The death star attempts to retire south, but only moves around 3-4 tiles southwest so the carriers are still well within range of LBA. First strike launched from Port Moresby goes about as well as yesterday with the G3M2s all being either damaged and forced to abort the attack or shot down. Dean is less lucky in follow up strikes.

A later strike of 2 Kates achieved no further hits for today, but I'm pretty happy with my LBA air units in the Solomons who thus far have achieved spectacular results.
Hornet and Enterprise have taken 4 and 5 torpedo hits respectively and will likely take 4-6 months to repair if they get away at all.

May 18th

today the land based bombers at Woodlark and Port Moresby were unable to find their target despite, dean's carriers being spotted and well within range of escorted attack. Bad weather helped cover dean's retreat which is nearing Townsville Australia. I'll probably have one more shot at the carriers before they are out of range of escort.
