Status: offline 		Hi. I've noticed that the current map gives Germany and Denmark the same border they shared in SC2 War in Europe. However, prior to 1920 the border would have been about one hex row further north of Flensburg. After the First World War this territory was lost to Germany as a result of the 1920 Schleswig plebiscite in which the population voted to join Denmark.

It wouldn't have much of an effect on the game, but it might give the German airship unit based there one more hex to spot with when doing recon over the North Sea.

Status: offline 		Yep...and a extra little buffer not wanted if the Kaiser needs to occupy the country and the Danish Straits for some pressing reason...though not recommended as that action has diplomatic repercussions....

Status: offline 		So there should be more northerly border for the Kaiser? It's too bad there aren't any mines or oil wells in that area.

But if it gets me two hexes closer to world conquest while playing the CP I'll take it.

When you consider all the more famous territorial losses by Germany after world war one like the Danzig Corridor and the Alsace-Lorraine, North Schleswig is often overlooked. After all, they voted to leave.

What an even greater economic powerhouse Germany might be today if it hadn't lost all these territories.

For this to matter there would need to be a resource in the area affected - can I nominate the town of Aabenraa (EDIT: called Apenrade in German)?

The Poles, French etc. who lived in large parts of these former German territories might eventually have had other ideas...

No mineral resources I'm afraid. The area is best known for its dairy farms if memory serves. Lots of good cheeses.

The Germans were pretty strict in imposing the German language on the local Danes when they ruled the region. German was gradually substituted for Danish in the churches, the schools, and even in the playground. Forty years of dominance, secured by official favor, annoyed the area's Danes no end, and the question of rival nationalities in Schleswig, like those in Poland, became another source of trouble and weakness within the frontiers of the German empire.

Later, the Danish-German border became the only border alteration Germany suffered following World War I which was never challenged by Hitler. Some local Nazi hotheads and leaders agitated for it. However, Hitler vetoed any such step, out of a general German policy at the time to base the occupation of Denmark on a kind of accommodation with the Danish Government, and avoid outright confrontations with the Danes.
