Nope, when the guerrilla's derailed the train tracks stopping the 18th Div one short of Chittagong, I sent Japan an email describing the problem including the name of the unit, that it was now stuck unpacking in SR mode, and its exact assault value.

Now, he did feel bad about shock attacking and taking Chittagong, and told me can't control himself when Commonwealth troops are in the open, since I refused to redo the turn...and perhaps he chose to shock attack because that is what he would have done...but rather I think he thought: lets win India.

that the 18th would still be in SR mode unpacking, that he admitted to not being able to control himself when he sees Commonwealth troops in the open...that follow up shock attacks has been his MO for the entire game.

The Hussars showing up, that was a surprise.

I've said then that you are defending forward may be a bit too much for my tastes, but here your opponent matches this with forward recklessness. So it all checks out so far )

Even though I have mentioned it several times...this is the Japanese MO in this game. Shock attacks. Very little to no recon, or bombing, minimal use of force...fast aggressive moves.

I am defending forward because I can use Japan's very tactics against them.

Not to mention significant dispersion of force. Yes the Allies are weak early on and this is a Scenario 2 style game, but attacking both in India, the two coasts of Australia, and all the other ops at the same time is reckless.

Flying Tigers do good work near Changsha sweeping LRCap fighters, and one of the destroyers is still alive, but spotted and with 72% system damage.

That task force those destroyers caught and savaged was obviously very big and might have had multiple targets judging by what landed at Canton today.

Thanks for the explanation, too bad for him then. I understand the shock attack then, but it was a gamble and he lost.

I have had the feeling he was a bit adventurous attacking all around, and too early in India. The outcomes of the fights in India and Oz might confirm that. You don’t invade both at the same time, when you still have not finished the conquest of the DEI.

Stuarts, early on, are like Tigers in Tunisia.

We shall attempt to retake Chittagong, and develop Diamond Harbor which seems to me a likely place for the IJ to strike next.

The 8th Marine Regiment will arrive on map headed for Bombay today, and the 2nd Marine Rgt in four more days...they will nominally all head for Diamond Harbor.

All of the CW reinforcements flowing into Karachi will head for Diamond Harbor too...

If Japan invades at Viz or even further west, I will have time to rejigger the defenses.

From what I can tell of the IJN most of the transports are Rangoon or further south fetching supplies...feeding Rangoon is always a tough proposition, and even tougher when the Allies control Singapore.

Nathan's MO in India was shock attacks followed by more shock attacks against me. The experience of Indian troops is very poor to start with until the '42 infantry comes in, very weak. He knows that and will try crush them for the first 6 months or so.

Looks like the IJN can bombard that hex where the Imperial Guards just impaled themselves. Hope you can finish it off regardless.

Hard to make TFs bombard off-base hex effectively, Japan would have to use "remain on station" so reloads would take yet another turn. But what's more important, DL is presumably low and remain low cause the whole mess was born from insufficient recon

LCUs that have just been in battle and are still in contact with the enemy should have a reasonably high MDL, and a lower DL (presumably from enemy scouting activities at night). FPs from the bombarding ships will help. The real disincentive is to have the TF Remain On Station within range of enemy bombers (and maybe the Chittagong Coffin (MTB) squadron.

Maybe not yet - the previous map shows a label "Much of it improvised AFVs" and one of the lines from the label points to the 2nd Royal Tank Rgt. Still, any armoured vehicle is tough on the Japanese this early.

2nd Royal Tank is the other part of the Desert Rats, with the 7th Queen’s Own Hussars. In all scenarios I know, they start with a nearly full complement of Stuarts.

2nd Royal Tank does indeed have Stuarts, and along with the Hussars an experience of 75+. The Australians coming in are all battle hardened veterans too.

In addition, there is a big improvement from 20 experience troops to simply 40...plus the best leaders PPs can buy.

The improvised vehicles are simply anti-paratroop duty now. As long as I can keep the aerial bombardment from destroying them, they work very well in that role.

He only has one cruiser and destroyer in the immediate area...the attack is going thru on the Imperial Guards.

Coming up very carefully is Royal Sovereign, Hermes, Indomitable more light cruisers and destroyers. These guys need to be snuck into position....IJ fighter cover forward is very light.

Trusty and Truant are finding lanes to patrol, two Yank subs are dropping mines at Akyab, Two dutch minelaying subs are gathering them at Calcutta, beefed up by British Naval Command.

Repairs are proceeding nicely on the damaged Allied (British and American) warships at Calcutta.

Still, it is January of 42....and Japan is very, very resilient especially in a scenario 2 game.

Turn is finished and away...

Japan might shock across a river in the Changsha triangle...that will be very bloody, depending upon the rolls.

SW of Ichang, the IJA troopers have stopped moving to the west and now are forcing the river...into 1600 AV in half decent terrain.

IJA troopers are in the mountains looking to cut the Lanchow road...we are maneuvering to stop him.

18th Division and friends are deliberate attacking, while the Hussars are shocking...looking to savage the Imperial Guards hard. Buffalo and Hurricanes are present...

Good luck !

1600 AV in woods, across a river, and probably with some forts, it might hurt. The results will be interesting.

Well, the Winged Hussars of the Commonwealth (the Polish-Lithuanian one) were a bit different from the hussars in the sense most other European countries used it. The Polish ones not only kept their but also adopted heavy cavalry tactics, while the others stayed as a light cavalry.

Here is a video of some shocking Hussars!

quote:

Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - The Winged Hussars were one of the most effective military forces in the world. They lost only a fraction of their battles and they were undefeated for 125 years. Today, they are still remembered for their outstanding courage as well as their remarkable armor and clever military tactics.

The Winged Hussars were known for the wings with long feathers worn on their backs or attached to the saddles of their horses, which during a charge uttered a sound of vibrating feathers that frightened enemy infantry.
.
.
.
By the second half of the 16th century and after Stephen Báthory's reforms, hussars had been transformed into heavily armored shock cavalry.

The true "winged hussar" arrived with the reforms of the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Stephen Bathory in the 1570s and was later led by the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Jan III Sobieski.

Until the reforms of the 1770s, the husaria banners were considered the elite of the Polish cavalry. It was not until the 1570s that the Polish Hussars finally came into their full glory. This was the Golden era when the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth had become one of the largest, most powerful and most populated nations in all of Europe. To differ from Hungarian hussars, Polish-Lithuanian hussars came with their own style and their armor was entirely different.
.
.
.
Winged Hussars were used as elite Polish-Lithuanian shock troops for over two centuries. The Winged Hussars fought many battles against various enemies, most of which they won.

In the battles of Lubiszew in 1577, Byczyna (1588), Kokenhausen (1601), Kircholm (1605), Kluszyn (1610), Chocim (1621), Martynów (1624), Trzciana (1629), Ochmatów (1644), Beresteczko (1651), Polonka (1660), Cudnów (1660), Chocim (1673), Lwów (1675), Vienna (1683), and Párkány (1683), they proved to be the decisive factor against often overwhelming odds.
.
.
.
One of the greatest victories of the Polish Hussars took place on June 23, 1601, in the Battle of Kokenhausen. Despite overwhelming numbers, Polish forces were able to defeat the Swedish army. In the aftermath of the battle, the Poles had lost 200 men, while the Swedes lost 2,000 men including almost all of their infantry. The 2,000 Swedes who had besieged Koknese Castle, wanting no part in the battle, had surrendered to the Poles, their weapons confiscated by the Polish forces.

The Battle of Kircholm, one of the major battles in the Polish-Swedish War, was fought on September 27, 1605.

The Winged Hussars launched a devastating charge against the enemy which ended the battle in the decisive victory of the Polish-Lithuanian forces.

It is remembered and celebrated to this day as one of the greatest triumphs of the Polish Hussars. The battle was decided in all of 20 minutes!

In the Battle of Kluszyn 1610, during the Polish–Muscovite War, the Russians outnumbered the Commonwealth army 5 to 1, yet were heavily defeated.

The Winged Hussars were known for the wings with long feathers worn on their backs or attached to the saddles of their horses, which during a charge uttered a sound of vibrating feathers that frightened enemy infantry.

Or the battle of Kluszyn, a few years later. Outnumbered 5 to 1, and still won. They were so impressive that many mercenaries who were fighting for the Russians agreed to switch side after the defeat.
