Japan should never use AMCs in amphibious operations where there are coastal guns.

I learnt that the hard way at Ambon.

IJA not venturing into the rough terrain, looking to exploit elsewhere....

Meanwhile there are now 10 IJA units at Changsha...not enough AT guns present for the Allies though everyday it increases.

Japanese players like to "stake out" the point where convoys enter the map to go to common destinations, but you can use a waypoint on the map edge strip to send your convoy on map at a different hex row. He also might expect you to convoy direct to Perth but you can go in at Adelaide/Port Augusta without too much loss of time.

My guess would be Jolo for the airfield to cover the area.

Tarakan can wait otherwise it gets bombed and bombarded by YOU!

Not going into Perth with anything...I got caught doing that by a German pocket battleship once.

Will start evacuating some of the left behind troops...

S.23 Empires to start from Cooktown to New Guinea...if supplies make it to Cooktown from Cloncurry, I can then fly the retrieved squads from Cooktown to Maryborough.

I am not sure it is worth the operating loss of the planes...but I shall monitor it. The S.23 Empires are due to withdraw soon anyway. If the program works I can expand it with Cats.

This is what I mean. Going to DG before Adelaide puts you on the map for a long exposed trip south. You can do the southern vector off-map by setting a waypoint on the map edge on the same hex row as Adelaide. Then your exposure is only the E-W distance.

That wasn't the best picture to put up from me. That convoy is only supplying DG. I have been dispatching convoys to Adelaide, Esperance, Port Augusta, and when Perth looked to have fallen even Hobart.

There is no reason to use waypoints, as it seems the Adelaide convoys automatically appear on map directly west of Adelaide and makes a straight run, same for the other ports I checked on the west map edge.

Off map TFs enter the map at the same latitude (aka "y" coordinate) of the on map destination port.

Edit: see post #1380 for a clarification

I just realized that even though Australia can create American PT boats if the port is supplied and large enough, that New Zealand cannot.

So I thought to make a transport convoy, stuff it with supplies, and use it to create PT boats. However, even though I have PT boats available, trying this tactic at Pearl I found the transports buttons are greyed out.

What am I doing wrong? Does the transport TF have to exceed 10K supply? That makes sense... Does the nationality of the cargo ship have to be USN?

But do you have US PT boats ? Nationality matters there too.

EDIT : re convoy exit point, I think that what BBFanboy is concerned with is seeing NJP park a submarine at the exit points for the most probable destinations - so, same latitude as Perth or Adelaide.

There are some important nuances involved. For the creation of PT boats, see post #5 in this thread.

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3945331&mpage=1&key=boat

That post expands on a similar post I made a few years beforehand. The more recent post is more definitive.

Nationality is less important. This is because there are very few non USN PT boat equivalents in the game. IIRC, neither the Dutch nor the Filipinos get any replacement boats, and the British get only a handful of future arrivals. It therefore comes down to where can the USN PTs be generated. They are limited to American or Australian conditions.

Actually that answer isn't quite nuanced enough.

Entry from the western off map locations has no difficulty following this rule as they have very little land mass to content with. The eastern off map locations have the continental USA land mass as an impediment. For example if the destination is Anchorage you can't enter at the latitude of Anchorage as that would place the TF right in the middle of Canada. Hence for the eastern entry points, they are just south of San Diego for those destination latitudes further north but the correct latitude for southern destination latitudes which are open water. The northern off map locations don't use latitudes for entry determination.
