Collaborative AAR. Just finished knocking out France in Mid August. Losses are not small, and MM waxed one of my panzer corps. I had the absolute worst possible luck in weather, too, no cold turns at all. So this was a very late start in the West.

I elected to invade Norway this time around. I'm trying the sub war and am not super happy with the results so far. MM has kept it down to a dull roar. That said, the RN is fully occupied in the Atlantic, which has opened up opportunities in the Med.

I had intended on landing in Vichy Syria here and did a DOW on it, but was given a strange error message about "non cooperative" preventing a landing there. So I had to divert to Palestine. I should be able to grab this port next turn, but it is a small one. More troops are standing by in Italy for shipment over once that is secured. I'm pretty sure the ME is lightly garrisoned thanks to the big British commitment in France. If I can knock out the ME, it will have made all my headaches to date worthwhile.

Am very surprised the British didn't keep at least some kind of naval presence in the Eastern Med.

Thanks for doing this Flaviusx. I've been following your Russian build strategies from the very beginning and your adaptations of them as the game has changed.
Maybe the RN will be hunting down your subs???? I see no RAF in the pic above.

The RN is giving my subs hell. The British made a heavy commitment to France, both land and air and made me pay a fairly stiff price for it.

Yay a collaborative AAR nice!

1) With France. You had maximum bad luck no cold turns and then rain in the first turn of May thats crazy. Even so Paris fell first turn of August but it was pretty costly to achieve. I sent 6 corps to France you can send more so was not an all in by any means but I dont think I would have achieved much more by sending 2 more British units.

2) The Battle of the Atlantic. You have sunk a fair bit. Actually a lot more merchants than for example Battlevonwar in my game vs him at this point in the game (august 40) but fewer escorts and suffered more losses and I got the Norway boost of merchants. And since very few escorts have died the numbers are coming up nicely.

My problem with the BoA is the maybe a bit too big spread of randomness I feel. I remember one early turn my escorts scored 6 hits on your subs in one turn and now this turn you sank 8 merchants and 1 escort on a fully escorted (10) route with no losses. Very big swings. Add too that the randomness of wether or not CVs score a hit and they can make a huge difference.

3) I played badly concerning the ME. I had the units to send but I didnt so it will be a race. I will fight for it, at least delay what may well be inevitable. Concerning the RN I sent it on a sub hunt in the Atlantic but why do I send all? Unnecessary. In the future I will send only the CV up back to the UK. I will move the French fleet up to the Atlantic and move down some more UK ships to the Med. Thats the way to do it I think. After all these games still learn/think of something new :).

El Alamein line shattered. My mech units are pretty tired after doing this, though. The race to Alexandria is on.

Haifa holds, dammit, but unless you've got another corps you can shift in there, not for long. I really wish I'd been able to land in Syria instead of this, and what is up with that collaboration bug anyways.

Yes I thought that Vichy bug was gone. Not seen that collaboration thing so not sure what it could be. Did you declare war on France before Vichy was created that might have messed something up.

Got some reinforcements and the Navy arrived and kind of saved the day for the moment but it will be tight.

But this makes me think of new strategys for the future. It seems Egypt might not always be so secure as one could think.

Mud in the ME prevents me from getting any kind of decent attack on Haifa. That's 4 lost corps. Total disaster.

Resigned game. Between the weather and the bug off Syria I cannot catch a break on this one.

I think I figured out what went wrong with Syria. I did a DOW with Germany, but not Italy. That's why it wouldn't let me land there. What a stupid mistake.
