Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: I-26 is damaged off Unmak by a pair of AMs. She should be able to make it to home waters.

Central Pacific: Canton Island’s minefield is successfully reinforced.

South Pacific: KB approaches Lord Howe Island and will launch strikes next turn as it turns back north to rendezvous with the Repl TF off New Caledonia. The last Bde of the 14th ID begins loading at Rabaul as the 18th ID(-) reinforcement convoy gets underway from Medan, headed towards the Java Sea. Reinforcements are landed at Luganville, and the convoy will move to Noumea to drop off the remaining reinforcements.

DEI/SW Pacific: The Mini-KB and CA TF should close on Soerabaja next turn, and then prepare to accompany the 18th ID(-) convoy. Mavis search planes begin to operate out of Exmouth, ranging as far south as the Perth convoy lanes.

SIGINT/Intel: A pair of SBDs have been reported as operational losses the last two turns which is a good indicator that the US carriers are at sea…..somewhere.

South Pacific: KB’s raids against Lord Howe Island were scrubbed due to bad weather, and the KB moved north to refuel with the Repl TF. Will now head NW to support the Moresby reinforcements currently underway. CA TF (3CA, CL, DDs) has departed Rabaul with the Amph TF carrying the last Bde of the 14th ID, and has cleared the tip of New Guinea. They’ve managed to be sighted by a sub, so they will make a high speed run into Moresby next turn to offload as rapidly as possible. And since they’ve been sighted, I fully expect a vigorous Allied response! The CL TF (CL, 5DD) sortied from Horn to Moresby and sunk a lone damaged xAKL there, and returned back to Horn, and will again sortie to Moresby next turn to assist in clearing out any PTs. LRCAP out of Lae will provide air cover over Moresby, allowing the KB to remain well in the Coral Sea to engage any naval elements coming up from Australian ports.

DEI/SW Pacific: The Mini-KB and CA TF closed at Soerabaja to replenish and will sortie next turn to support the convoy carrying the 18th ID(-) next turn. This is a MAJOR effort coming in from the west toward Moresby, including the Mini-KB (CV, CVL, BB, CL, CS, DDs), BB TF (2BB, CL, DDs), two CA TFs (ea 3CA, CL, DDs).

PI: A lone PI bound blockade runner xAKL was sighted and engaged north of the Marianas by a PB sent to intercept after the runner was sighted by air search. The PB landed some hits and left her on fire, figure she’ll sink long before making a friendly port.

Burma/IO: Oscars out of Magwe managed a small CAP trap over the RTA units near Paoshan that had a few I-16s hitting them with ground attacks. The Oscars did well; 10 I-16s lost for 3 Oscars. A few Wellingtons also made a visit to Magwe at night, were met by some Oscars and didn’t hit anything. Need more AA (loading at Singers now) and my fist Nick unit will go to Magwe.

SIGINT/Intel: SIGINT/Intel: A signal breach (L_S_T email) says that the US CVs are doing their March refit, so that reduces worry a bit. Also, commitment of largely second line warships to Moresby is dealt with, which leaves L_S_T the option of committing US cruisers or the BBs sighted earlier.

Japan/Industry: A6M3a Zero R&D accelerated to 11/42.

Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: NSTR.

South Pacific: The Moresby reinforcement effort does indeed draw the Allied fleet out! Three CL TFs (5CL, DDs / 4CL, DDs / 3CL, DDs) come out of Australian bases to disrupt the effort. The first sighting is by I-3 off Cooktown which damages CL Enterprise with a single torp. The RO-64 misses CL Leander just off Moresby, and then CL Java hits a mine at Moresby. Daylight brings Tanaka’s CA TF (4CA, CL, 6DD, DMS) fighting a series of engagements against all three TFs over the next day and night, all of which I thought were going against the IJN, especially by the time of the fourth engagement as most ammo had been expended. Hashimoto’s CL TF (CL, 5DDs) arrived late, just in time to sink the crippled CL Leander and DD Nizam with torps. Otherwise, it was all up to Tanaka to protect the transports, which he managed to do with surprisingly little damage – only a DMS was sunk outright, and DD Arare was crippled, and will be scuttled the following day.

Status: offline 		While CA Furutaka had been detached with two DDs, all the cruisers are in remarkably good shape, despite numerous hits. IF, and it’s a big IF, the IJN cruisers can get back to Rabaul without running into a sub torpedo, it will be a banner day’s work for Tanaka.

Status: offline 		As the Allied TFs began heading back to their Australian bases on the second day, land based air out of Lae (Vals) and Rabaul (Nettys) began hitting the withdrawing ships; CLs Hobart, Achilles, Leander and Glasgow are repeatedly hit. But the true hammer was of course the KB, which launched numerous strikes as the TFs were halfway between Moresby and Australia. CLs Java, Achilles, Caledon, Columbo and Dauntless and a number of DDs were all hit. Without any CAP, the Japanese airstrikes had few losses, 6 planes to Flak. The only downside to the airstrikes was that the KB used most of its torpedo stocks – only 42 torpedoes remained in the KB! So, the KB will retire to Rabaul to replenish as US BBs are known to be in the area, and torpedoes will be needed to subdue them if they sortie against the 18th ID(-) convoy currently entering the Banda Sea. Needless to say, Tanaka’s cruisers are withdrawing to Rabaul to repair and replenish – while damage is remarkably light, but they are zero balance on ammo at this point. Hashimoto’s CL, as well as another CL TF hastily put together (CL, 5 DD) will withdraw with the Amphib TF to Horn Is which will offload remaining supply there. With Tanaka’s effort in protecting the Amph TF, the last Bde of the 14th ID was landed in good order, and the IJA will make another attempt to take Moresby next turn. Of course, they will attack without the benefit of the bombardment Tanaka’s CA were slated to give to support the assault.

DEI/SW Pacific: As mentioned above, the 18th ID(-) effort is heading east, just entering the Banda Sea. With the KB having to replenish, they may have to loiter for a day or so for the KB to get back into position to support. On Sumatra, the first attempt to take Palembang is in motion with the 4th ID and supporting engineers and armor moving fwd – this will “overstack”, but can’t help that at the moment. 33 ID will remain behind to be committed to replace losses if this first assault fails.

Burma/IO: An abandoned Akyab is taken by RTA cavalry. A large concentration of Allied troops are in Chittagong, with a smaller element at Cox’s Bazaar. Will need to reinforce sooner rather than later, before these troops advance.

SIGINT/Intel: Very quiet after the Port Moresby naval engagements. I-Boat sighting and sinking an ARD and big xAP off Tahiti again points to Tahiti being a major hub – but its pretty darn far away to raid at this point.

South Pacific: Another assault on Moresby failed, forts still “reduced” from level 1 to level 1, if that makes any sense. 2800 IJA to only 432 Allied casualties reported. Still, IJA forces, with the exception of a single SNLF, are in good shape for another attack. Will hold off attacking until the 18th ID(-) reinforcements can be brought in, which will include another opportunity for naval bombardments. CA Furutaka made is safely to Rabaul, the remaining cruisers w/escorts along with the KB will make port next turn. The Amphib TF unloaded its remaining 1200 supply at Horn Island, and will begin the trek “the long way around” New Guinea to Rabaul next turn. Two CL TFs remain at Horn Is to interdict any Allied supply runs to Moresby, so far, it’s quiet. The 18th ID(-) convoy and supporting elements will begin to enter the Arafura Sea next turn, and then make its way toward Horn.

DEI/SW Pacific: Well…..its time for the first ground assault on Palembang next turn. Three divisions plus support will make the attempt. I dread this coming dice roll!

Japan/Industry: A6M5 Zero R&D accelerated to 2/43. BB Kongo finishes repairs at Hiroshima from December’s “The Battle of Mersing”. She’ll move to Yokohama and then south to join the Fleet. Sallys working ASW off Kyushu with the first real batch of well trained ASW pilots have claimed 3 sub hits in as many turns…Nice!

Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: NSTR.

Central Pacific: NSTR.

South Pacific: KB and CA TF both reach Rabaul without any issues with subs. KB refuels and rearms, and puts back to sea, less two CAs which will go to the surface TF role next turn or so. KB departed via Kavieng to avoid a recently laid sub minefield, and will enter the Coral Sea just west of Guadalcanal. 18th ID(-) armada transits the Arafura Sea toward the Torrez Strait, and will position just off Terapo prior to making the final dash into Moresby. With “heavy overcast” weather, I don’t think this force has been sighted yet, so this could come as a big surprise for L_S_T. A CL TF (CL, 5DDs) will sortie out of Horn Is to Moresby and remain on station to interdict any resupply or reinforcement efforts. The one major downside to all this effort to take Moresby is the fuel drain at both Truk (KB Repl TF taking on fuel) and Rabaul; fuel stocks are now low at both bases with the resupplying tankers just getting to Balikpapan.

DEI/SW Pacific: Palembang holds two assaults. Casualties aren’t light: 6300 IJA losses, although most are disabled squads to only 1700 Allied. 56th ID takes the worst of it, and moved out to be replaced by the 33rd ID for the next assault next turn.

South Pacific: 18th ID(-) armada arrived in position just off Terapo, still apparently not spotted. The final dash in to Moresby is chock full of subs however and PTs harass as well. The surface TFs intended to thwart the PTs engage last of course, and although the PTs didn’t manage any hits, they did sow confusion into the Amphib TF causing collisions. BB TF bombards, only inflicting about 120 casualties and retires toward Kendari. Troops and supplies still remain to be offloaded next turn, and the Fleet will continue to support with additional CA TF bombardments as well. Hopefully the subs can be held at bay as well! 52 B-25/26 sorties fail to hit any of the CL TF sent ahead to Moresby, and LRCAP Zeros managed to down 8 bombers for their efforts.

DEI/SW Pacific: Palembang again holds two shock attacks! Casualties aren’t light, but at least in the IJA’s favor: about 3000 IJA losses to 4700 Allied. Forts are reduced to zero, but the IJA troops are exhausted, so they’ll need to rest a turn or two before making another effort.

PI: BB bombardment run to Manila finds mines the hard way this trip, sinking one DD and damaging another. The bombardment did at least inflict over 750 casualties.

Burma/IO: I-18, enroute to take on fuel at Rangoon is bushwacked by SS Truant and sunk off Phukat becoming the first I Boat lost.

China: NSTR.

SIGINT/Intel: Major portion of the British Fleet, which included 3x “R” Class BBs, 2CA, 6CL and 10DDs, identified in South Pacific – bombarding Norfolk Is. This leaves little if anything in the IO.

Japan/Industry: Three more Ki-44-IIa Tojo R&D factories reach 30; all four will research the Ki-44-IIa, then three will begin researching the B model. A6M3a Zero aircraft R&D accelerated to 10/42 while the Nakajima Ha-45 engine R&D accelerated to 6/43.

Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: NSTR.

Central Pacific: Additional Naval Gd infantry brought into Baker and Canton Is without issue.

South Pacific: IJA attack at Moresby makes progress as forts are reduced to zero, but is held. Would have been better if the IJA just attacked once, but they tried both days; IJA losses were 4400 to Allied 3600. Both the 18th and 14th IJA Divisions are still in good shape, so after some rest may try again – in lieu of bringing in more troops. In either case, will need to keep the base suppressed by naval and air, and that will be challenging – tempo has reduced fuel stocks at Rabaul to zero, with tankers still a few days out. By using some xAKs in port, a CA TF (3CA, CL, DDs) was refueled and will head out next turn to bombard Moresby. As the tankers offload, another CA TF will ready for sea. Further south, Norfolk Island remains in the Allied Bullseye with another big naval bombardment – this time by the British Fleet. Just as well know the Brits aren’t in the IO truthfully. The KB, currently in the Coral Sea will move SSE to take on fuel from the Repl TF, and then loiter near Norfolk in the coming days – hopefully remaining out of sight to bushwack another bombardment run.

DEI/SW Pacific: Palembang is taken in the first assault, costing only about 1000 IJA losses to the 24,000 Allied PoWs taken. More import, while some facilities were damaged, it wasn’t catastrophic: Oil at 756 intact and 144 damaged; refineries 630 intact and 120 damaged. Also, 136k oil and 198k fuel was captured on site. L_S_T did well with “Fortress Palembang”. Of the four IJA divisions involved, one will immediately ship out to Burma and one to Java (for the attack on Bandoeng). The 4th ID needs some rest and refit, and will remain in Theater, leaving one division “technically” available for Moresby or elsewhere. Minesweepers are sent to Palembang and begin sweeping operations before tankers start arriving, although a naval special base force is immediately brought in without issue. In NW Aus, troops close on Darwin from the south and will bombard to test defenses – assuming only the fortress troops remain, the majority pulled out towards Daly Waters.

Central Pacific: Mini-KB arrives at Truk without issues. With some luck, L_S_T will figure the Mini-KB has remained in Southwest Pacific waters. Will look to join the Mini-KB (plus freshly repaired BB Kongo, coming down from Japan) with the KB when the KB wraps up around Norfolk.

South Pacific: KB takes on fuel and moves to a position just NE of Norfolk Is where it is immediately spotted! Will loiter around Norflolk, but now that they are spotted, chances for a successful intercept of anything worthwhile is minimal. CA TF (3CA, CL, DDs) bombarded Moresby inflicting about 100 casualties, and managed to escape with only a dud torpedo hit near Rabaul – however that sub attack provided enough confusion for CL Natori and DD Shinonome to collide. They will both need to head to Japan for repairs. A second CA TF (4CA, DDs) goes in the following turn and does somewhat better, inflicting about 200 casualties, and returns without issues. CA TFs will again put to sea to keep the pressure on Moresby. The Allies put pressure on as well by dropping the Aus 2/7 Cdo Bn on Dobadura in the Japanese rear, cutting the route to Buna. Buna is also threatened, and a small Naval Gd unit will be brought in by fast transport, and the first combat deployment of Rufes will take place there as well.

DEI/SW Pacific: Darwin falls in the first attack to the 21st Ind Mixed Bde – only the Fortress Troops remained, and 1700 troops were put in the bag. This frees up this Mixed Bde for Moresby, and will send transports and escorts to load after refueling from Kendari. Other IJA units will move on Katherine and continue to advance south toward Daly Waters, but at this point, all objectives in Northwest Aus have been secured.

Burma/IO: Allied air gets feisty and launches a series of both day and night raids across Burma with little to show for the bombing, but Allied “Flying Tigers” best Japanese LRCAP in NW Burma knocking down 4 Zeros and 4 Oscars to no loss. Not good.

An overall positive month with successful operations in NW Australia, and culminating with the seizing (Finally!) of Palembang. While Moresby remains (as does Manila and Badoeng in Java), the IJN won big in the Moresby Naval battle, and it should only be a matter of time before the base is taken. Oil and fuel are now starting to flow out of the DEI, and the remaining unoccupied Allied possessions in the Pacific are begin taken slowly but surely. Other than the cruiser foray to Moresby and the continued focus of harassing the small contingent of defenders at Norfolk Island with bombardment runs, the Allied Fleet, especially the carriers, has been missing in action. Other than taking Moresby, I don’t see much further expansion for Japan, so May could be the “High Water Mark” and the perimeter established for defense. I’d rather not surrender the initiative to the Allies, but I don’t see the sense in further expansion against now “hardened” targets. Will see how May goes. For the month, naval losses were mostly about the Moresby fight: the IJN losing only 2 DD and 1 SS for the month. Allied losses were heavy, but not in really much valuable assets: 6CL, 5DD, 7 PT and 3SS lost. In the air, reflecting the minimal Allied air activity: the loss ratio 123 for Jpn to only 70 Allied planes.

INTEL: While I’ve had solid sightings of both US and British warships – BBs and Cruisers – in the South Pacific, I’ve had no indications anywhere of where the carriers are, or where they may be committed. I was a bit surprised to see the old British “R” Class BBs in the South Pacific, so I don’t think much is remaining in the Indian Ocean. In any case, I still expect the US to start carrier raids – have been saying that for a while, has to happen at some point!

SUBWAR: Allied subs continue to harass shipping lanes and are a threat to any IJN warship sortie. However, on the positive side, ASW air has become somewhat effective around at least southwestern Japanese waters as pilots’ training progresses. Still need more ASW dedicated aircraft across theater, and IJA bombers work well in this role – the pilot training remains the challenge. Japanese subs have had some random successes against merchant/support shipping, but nothing against warships.

Japan/Industry. The Nick comes into production a few weeks early, and the Tojo is just a few weeks away as well. R&D effort for the Zero line is paying off, and that will continue, the goal remains getting the A5M5 Zero as quickly as possible. The Oscar line R&D effort hasn’t produced results yet, but figure that will start cranking in May, supported by the Engine Bonus – sustaining that Ha-35 engine bonus will be the challenge! Oil and Fuel are just starting to flow in reasonable numbers from the DEI, and will expand from one major oil/fuel convoy to two in May – each well protected by a CVE and CS with well trained ASW pilots.

Status: offline 		Northern Pacific/5th Fleet. It remains quiet up north, and although the Allies have likely moved troops to secure the Aleutians, the airbases there remain undeveloped. Paramushiro Jima will be heavily reinforced in May, and is now capable of supporting torpedo armed aircraft. Will also look to begin putting ground troops on the outer Kuriles, although I don’t think an Allied amphibious effort is likely here any time soon.

Central Pacific/4th Fleet. Still quiet, the highlight are the occasional reinforcement convoys ferrying troops to the atolls. Tabiteuea defenses are growing as planned, the AF capable of supporting Nettys, just awaiting the shipment of an Air HQ. I’m still betting that the initial Allied effort in the Central Pacific will be the fairly isolated Phoenix Islands – especially Canton, and they have been reinforced and fortified. Still, the primary defenses in the Central Pacific will be the commitment of the KB in response to any threat. To support that, Nauru Island is being developed somewhat for the KB anchorage.

South Pacific/Southeast Fleet. Moresby has been the focus and will remain so until it falls. At the end of April, it does appear that L_S_T has written Moresby off as no Allied naval forces, other than subs, have been committed to interrupt the IJA bombardment runs. Allied efforts have been limited to bombardment runs on Norfolk Island – I’m good with that as its role is strictly denial. The focus in May will be to take Moresby and begin moving those troops to defend New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. The IJA foothold in NE Australia has been pulled back to Portland Roads, and that, like Norfolk Is, is a denial role to keep Allied fighter air out of range of Moresby.

DEI/SW Pacific. Palembang is finally taken and the oil is starting to flow! Troops now in transit to seize Bandoeng next, largely to free up troops, although I have no firm plans how to use these divisions offensively at this point. Cocos Is is being reinforced to support Nettys as a long range warning of any movements heading toward the DEI. NW Aus was taken largely without much effort as the Allies abandoned most bases without a fight. Extending the perimeter to Carnavon was accomplished in the SW and troops will advance to Daly Waters and threaten Tennant Creek in the north – no plans to seize anything further with a major commitment of ground forces, but rather establish a defensive perimeter to screen the DEI from the east.

PI. Effort was put into securing the remaining PI outer islands, and this was accomplished with minimal forces, with only Cebu remaining and of course the bastion of Manila. Will look to eliminate both of these in May, hopefully supply stocks in Manila are dwindling.

Burma/IO. The limit of advance has also been achieved in Burma with Akyab being taken without a fight. Goal now is to reinforce Burma with both additional land and air assets to retain the gains made. Supply looks to be an issue, and I really don’t want Burma to be a major attritional battle that sucks supply – but that’s likely what will happen, and I don’t see much of an alternative.

China. Wenchow was finally secured, and the 13th Army began its trek towards the Canton area where it will focus operations in May. I really want a “quiet China” as much as possible going forward, but I think I need to secure potential airbases in the south which could interdict shipping…so that will be the limited focus.

Japan/Industry: The last of two remaining A6M3 Zero R&D factories reach 30 and are shifted to research the A6M3a and A6M5 Zero. No real rush for the A6M3, which will appear in Jun without any R&D effort, at that point will convert one of the two current A6M2 Zero factories to the A6M3, and that will then convert to the A6M3a and on. The first of eight Oscar R&D factories reaches 30, and is shifted to research the Ki-43-IIb. Will focus all Oscar R&D on the IIb, the last remaining Ki-43IIa R&D site will remain to produce the IIa. The G3M3 Nell goes into production, upgrading from the G3M2.

South Pacific: The big story is that Moresby is finally taken on the second assault! IJA suffer a further 1900 casualties, while the Allies lose over 6000, but manage to withdraw to the SE, a coastal hex. Will have the 18th ID move to eliminate the remaining Allies, which I’m sure L_S_T will attempt some type of evacuation – figure those two APDs that were sunk off Moresby by the CA bombardment TF were attempting to pull fragments off. On that note, the next CA bombardment TF will abort as its not needed, and a Banshee of all aircraft, managed a hit on CA Chokai which will need some body work. The majority of the remaining IJA troops at Moresby will also come off, most in need of rest, and the 14th ID to reposition to defend New Caledonia and Luganville. Moresby itself is of course in bad shape, will need some work to get the AF in operation. Will also bring in a Mixed Bde from Darwin to defend Moresby, as well as supporting engineers and AA from around the Empire. That shuttling of troops in and out of Moresby will be the primary IJN focus for the next few weeks. The KB meanwhile continues to burn fuel loitering around Norfolk Is, its known presence keeping the Allies away from Norfolk for a bit as some engineers are flown in. Don’t want to keep the KB at sea for long as ships need some minor repairs, so that mission will conclude in a few days or a week or so – assuming the Allied Fleet doesn’t make an appearance.

DEI/SW Pacific: 21st Ind Mixed Bde begins loading at Darwin for transit to Moresby, and will be escorted by a CA TF coming out of Soerabaja. Fuel in this area is sparse, and more will need to be brought in, but that of course will be at the expense of a tanker bringing fuel to Truk – always a cost! On the ground, the Allies continue to pull back, a single Aus IN Bn delaying in Katherine is destroyed with 900 men lost. Will push south as far as Daly Waters, and may scout as far as Tenant Creek, but I have no plans on any major commitment to seize southern Aus.

Burma/IO: The debut of the Ki-48-IIa Lily goes poorly after they attempt to hit a small convoy off Cox’s Bazar and are bushwhacked by Flying Tigers, losing 5 of the 8 planes engaged. The first Ki-45 Nick squadron deploys to Magwe, with 8 flying night CAP and 4 in daylight duty. Will see how they do!

South Pacific: The first Zeros are flown into Moresby as Fast Transport TFs begin departing Rabaul bringing in Base Force engineers and supply. Mines are swept at Port Moresby, but not before an SC finds one the hard way.

DEI/SW Pacific: 21st Ind Mixed Bde finishes loading at Darwin and is in transit to Moresby, escorted by a CA TF coming out of Soerabaja as well as a CL TF departing from Horn Island, although I don’t expect any Allied surface force interference. Part of that CA TF (CA, DD), detaches and will head to vicinity of Port Hedland to rendezvous with the freshly repaired CA Nachi. This CA TF will be used around Carnavon where it looks like the Allies are beginning to get some interest. So that fuel shipment heading for Darwin, will now head to Port Hedland. Also at sea, two AMC raiders picked up a possible convoy well off of Perth with their Jakes, and they managed to interdict what turned out to be two xAPs heading off map. The two AMCs hit the two xAPs repeatedly, including a torpedo hit, but neither ship was confirmed to sink. They will attempt to re-engage next turn; if nothing else, this may at least disrupt shipping for a while.

Burma/IO: Flying Tigers again sweep Akyab, but this time are met by 20 Zeros; 9 H81-A3 shot down in exchange for 3 Zeros. Supply continues to problematic, which means replenishing air losses is going to be challenging – flying sentais way back to Singers or Indochina bases is a LONG haul, but that’s currently what needs to happen, and a reduced Oscar chutai of 5 planes is flown to Cam Ranh Bay where it replenishes to its full strength of 12 a/c with a few spares. A freshly arrived Oscar sentai of 42 planes at Magwe will attempt a LRCAP trap over Warazup near Miyitkyina where unescorted Blenheims have been harassing an exposed tank regiment.

Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: NSTR.

Central Pacific: SS Tarpon, snooping around, hits a mine at Canton. A 27 plane Zero Sentai is flown to Roi to operate in the 4th Fleet area.

South Pacific: 21st Mixed IN Bde begins offloading at Port Moresby, and so far, no Allied interference except the usual sub activity. Kavieng was reportedly mined by submarine, and will send a pair of minesweepers to deal with it. The KB takes on fuel from the Repl TF off Noumea as it heads north to Nauru. A number of ships in the KB need some minor repairs, and will look to shuttle them to Truk while the KB hopefully gets a chance to rest. Fuel is still in short supply at both Truk and Rabaul, although tankers are enroute. The Repl TF (4AO) however are now dry, and will send them directly back to the DEI to replenish stocks.

DEI/SW Pacific: Daly Waters is taken unopposed, but it does look like Tenant Creek is defended in force, so the advance will halt at Daly Waters, at least for now. With only one IN Bde as the core of the IJA strength, we’ve culminated. On the SW end of Aus, Allied troops have advanced to Carnavon, and an IJN CA TF (2CA, CL, DDs) bombarded with good results (350 casualties) to disrupt their operations as a Fast Transport TF brings Naval Guard reinforcements in to Carnavon. At sea, the two IJN AMCs split up, and one finds a small convoy of six xAKs and engages, damaging three. One AMC will head to Soerabaja to replenish, while the other was sighted by a floatplane, and what looks like a Allied cruiser is closing in from the west. Will attempt to avoid contact, and make for the safety of the Cocos air umbrella. Lastly, in the air, the Rufe made its combat debut over Carnavon, downing a B-25 but losing two of the 6 Rufes engaged. Not an auspicious start. Will shuttle another Rufe Chutai in from Rabaul to bolster the effort.

PI: NSTR.

Burma/IO: Two British Monitors bombard Akyab, destroying 4 Zeros on the ground and rendering the AF unusable – the remaining Zeros fly back to Cam Ranh Bay to replenish airframes. A Brit DD also prowls Akyab and catches a PB fast transport, although after offloading supplies. As the 33rd ID begins offloading at Rangoon, a CL TF (CL, 4DD, DMS) comes up to sweep Allied ships from Cox Bazaar, hoping to catch those pesky Monitors, but only finds and sinks an xAKL. The CL TF will turn around and try another sweep, but not counting on much success – but at least it shows some IJN naval presence in the Bay of Bengal area.

SIGINT/Intel: US carriers reveal themselves with 144 SBDs striking on Norfolk Is. That’s at least 4, maybe 5 CVs operating south of Norfolk. Timing could be better, but good to know where they are at least!

Japan/Industry: CVs Junyo and Hiyo are completed! Both will rendezvous and sail to Yokohama to join up with freshly repaired CAs Furutaka and Kako and additional DDs before heading to Truk to join the KB.

Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: NSTR.

Central Pacific: SS Cachalot is found at Nauru Island and heavily damaged by ASW efforts. Not sure if this is just a sub looking to prey on xAKs on a resource run, or waiting there for the KB via a SIGINT hit. In any case, the KB will head to Truk instead – Nauru has no fuel yet, and a number of KB ships need minor repairs as well as topping off fuel tanks. Despite the US CVs unmasking in the South Pacific, the KB really needs a rest, and will hold at Truk until Junyo and Hiyo join up to replace Shokaku which will shortly head to Japan for its June radar refit. Barring a US effort on Noumea, the KB will not venture south for a bit.

South Pacific: 21st Mixed IN Bde completes offloading at Port Moresby, and the transports begin loading up the 144th IN Reg for eventual transit to Burma to join its parent division. While reinforcing Moresby continues, the real story is the large SBD strike on Norfolk Island. Will be interesting to see if it’s a raid or prelude to an invasion. Noumea based Bettys are now set to night operations – small chance they can do anything at night, but they are certainly not going to be effective against US CVs in daylight at long range. Will route about a half dozen additional subs to the Norfolk area and hope to get lucky. The greater concern is that both Noumea and Luganville are weakly held at the moment with only Naval Guard troops. If L_S_T decides to get bold, and has the USMC available, this could get dicey.

DEI/SW Pacific: The fight at Carnarvon heats up as the Aussies send in three armor regiments to bolster the two infantry Bdes. They are countered by a Fast Transport TF landing the leading elements of a Naval Guard Unit being shuttled in – enough to hold the first ground attack, but the Japanese lost over 250 troops to only 50 Allied. Will send in the cruisers again to bombard, just rearmed at Broome, and hopefully the engineers get the forts to level 3 before the next attack. At sea, the AMCs have so far avoided contact with the hunting Allied cruiser, and are headed back to the DEI.

Burma/IO: Akyab gets the full attention of the British India Airforce – Hurricane sweeps clear the few Oscars on LRCAP and Blenheims effectively shut down the AF for a long while. Instead of trying to keep LRCAP over Akyab at this point, will try an Oscar sweep over Chittagong. The IJA’s 33rd ID and supporting troops have completed offloading at Rangoon, and the plan was to shuttle them into Akayb, but losing the AF’s capability has nixed that. Instead, they’ll trek overland.

Central Pacific: A US CA TF (4CA, 4CL, DDs) bombards Canton Is with minimal effect (fort level 4), but mines hit CA Chicago and DD Maury. Both are claimed as sunk, but doubt Chicago is. L_S_T timed the raid well, the two subs in normally the area were enroute to/from re-fueling. Also interesting was that a small naval airstrike (7SBD/10TBF) was launched, so another CV is nearby, perhaps enroute to the South Pacific. No Nells responded to the strike, only a single Jake managed an attack on a cruiser, but failed to score. The KB arrives safely at Truk and begins some well earned rest and refit – will take a week for many ships to shed some sys damage. CV Shokaku with 4DDs will depart for Japan and her “Radar” refit. They’ll cross path with CVs Junyo and Hiyo just departing next turn from Yokohama to the Fleet with 2CA, CL and DD escort.

South Pacific: Norfolk Island continues to get pounded, this time the BB TFs returned to bombard, and the US CVs remained in support with another big strike (160F/144SBD) – which was met by 3 Zeros out of Noumea, which only managed to lose one of the three. Not sending the KB back south to chase, only responding with subs – as long as they remain interested in Norfolk at least. Am a bit concerned if that CV TF decides to head north to raid the Moresby area – still plenty of IJN shipping ill protected against that size of raid. But, IJN subs would be very thick in the Coral Sea. On the “ground front”, the 144th IN Reg finally completes loading at Moresby and will begin its journey to Burma. SNLF troops holding Portland Roads are subjected to a rather large raid – although mostly dive bombers – which was largely ineffective. But it was heavily escorted by P-400s/P-39s, so will have to increase the LRCAP effort out of Horn Is. I do want to hold on to Portland Roads as long as possible to keep the Allied air effort off of Port Moresby. So, a CA TF (3CA, CL, DDs) will depart Rabaul next turn on a bombardment run against Cooktown to disrupt the Allied air effort there. Will also look to reinforce Portland roads with AA, AT and another SNLF in the coming days.

DEI/SW Pacific: Carnarvon falls to another Allied attack before its forts could get that 3% more to level 3. 1400 Jpn troops lost to only 300 Allied and the Jpn troops will fall back toward Exmouth. Rufes in support did however manage to knock down four B-25s without loss. A fresh Rufe Sentai is flown in, but that’s the extent of reinforcements for the moment. CA TF (2CA, CL, DDs) bombards Carnarvon with moderate effect, but nowhere enough to shut down the base. Will look to send the TF back again, but curious to see what CVL Hermes will do – was this the TF looking for the AMC raiders? Likely – but even Hermes could give the CAs trouble.

South Pacific: Allied troops come ashore at Norfolk Is, largely via apparently APDs – no assault shipping identified yet, and the only troops ashore so far are USMC Raiders. As the Jpn garrison consists of about a company (-) of troops, Norfolk is lost in the following turn, Jpn losses totalled about 200 troops to the Allied 25. Both Naval Gd companies were elements, so no units were eliminated. It has served its purpose as a “denial base”, although would have liked to extend that denial into June! On the positive side, I-8 puts one of six fish into Lady Lex 40mn to the west of Norfolk. Although claimed sunk, even with the accompanying “ammo storage explosion”, best expectation is that some damage is “major” – nearest shipyard able to take Lex is Peal; so far she’s managed to avoid other sub contacts as the best the IJN I-Boats were able to sight were ASW TFs. At Portland Roads, as another Allied offensive “probe” draws near, LRCAP Zeros out of Horn Island do well against incoming ground support strikes – 15 Banshees shot down for no loss. On the following turn, Allied P-400s and P-39s sweep at 15k getting the better of the Zeros on LRCAP - 8 are lost to a single P-400! Will look to reinforce Portland Roads with a few Fast Transport runs out of Rabaul; not ready to lose this denial base. At Moresby, the first Bde of the 14th Division begins loading out for Noumea. Lastly, CA TF (3CA, CL, DDs) approached Cooktown in daylight(!!), and avoided being hit by 16 SBDs at Cooktown itself, LRCAP Zeros out of Moresby claimed 6 without loss. The bombardment went in during daylight and still did fairly well – over 650 casualties reported and 10 a/c destroyed on the ground.

DEI/SW Pacific: Allied ASW TF of 3DD gets bested by its intended target of Perth as I-158 sinks DD Preston. On Java, the IJA’s 5th and Imperial Guard Divisions begins moving the last 40m to begin the assault against Bandoeng. Will be overstacked, but don’t see an alternative.

PI: NSTR.

Burma/IO: Allied air is getting feisty, hitting various targets such as Akyab and Myitkyina with sweeps and Blenheim strikes. Keeping available fighters at Magwe area for the time being.

SIGINT/Intel: No contact with the damaged Lady Lex; assume she’s made port. Looks like most, if not all, of the Royal Navy cruisers are operating out of Perth. With the R Class BBs used to bombard Norfolk Is, not much is left in the Indian Ocean.

South Pacific: No sign of Lady Lex, or any of the US Carrier force. Hopefully they won’t venture north to trouble the build up of Noumea’s defenses….I really want the KB (now with Junyo and Hiyo, but less Shokaku) to rest in port for a bit until fuel reserves can be brought up at Truk. Allies look like they’re pressing at Portland Roads – a two Bde attack was repulsed, but forts were dropped to level 1. CA TF (3CA, DDs) will depart Rabaul to bombard.

DEI/SW Pacific: IJN comes off very poorly in the Naval Battle of Carnarvon, losing CA Nachi and 3 DDs (two scuttled) for ZERO Allied ships sunk! Terrible. IJN CA TF (2CA, CL, 5DDs) on a bombardment run to Carnarvon is in intercepted first by a Brit CL TF (2CL, 2DD) in daylight and is seemingly overmatched. CL Mauritius by its lonesome lands hit after hit on IJN ships and carries the fight. Then the IJN TF runs into another Brit TF (2CA, 2CL, 7DD) and again, although low ammo probably contributed here, the IJN was again mauled with CA Nachi taking the brunt of damage and the IJN failing to do much at all. Nachi and DD Yamakaze sink enroute Broome, while DDs Shiranui and Ariake are scuttled. If that mauling wasn’t enough, on Java, the attack on Bandoeng is repulsed with heavy loss – 2100 Jpn casualties to only 300 Allied, which proves that this is a futile endeavor until Allied supplies are expended – which appears won’t be for a while. So, will back off two divisions to reduce stacking and put at least one to other use and siege them out for a while…long while.

PI: I finally get around to landing troops on Cebu – an Infantry Regiment comes ashore to find Cebu defended by a PI Infantry Division. Will need some more troops to take the base, but at least the light industry isn’t producing any supply now.

SIGINT/Intel: Thought the air bombardment against Noumea was just a good sized raid, but following it up with naval bombardments and CV TF at sea may be the first step to invasion.

South Pacific: B-17s out of Suva hit Noumea at low level, coming in well under the Zero CAP which was totally ineffective. 4 Mavis, 2 Bettys and a Zero destroyed on the ground, and the AF damage level at 30. More Zeros are flown in, and CAP stacked, with the majority at low level just before the next turn’s naval bombardment(s) show up. CL TF (5 CL, DDs) and BB TF (6BB, CA, CL, DDs) level the level 3 defenses. 39 more a/c destroyed on the ground, AF and port shuttered, supplies zeroed. I’m able to fly out the half dozen flyable Zeros to Luganvile, but the Mavis and Betty elements have zero flyable a/c at this point. The Nicks are enroute, and reach Luganville. The convoy carrying the first Bde of the 14th ID was approaching New Caledonia from the NW, and I diverted that to Luganville, while having three transports with an SNLF and construction troops come ashore at Koumac. That’s a risk as if Allied CVs remain close at hand to support a landing, those transports at Koumac are low hanging fruit. I reluctantly sortie the KB – now in two TFs (Nagumo: 4CV, 2BB, CA, CS, DDs and Yamaguchi: 3CV, 2CVL, 2BB, CA, CS, DDs) from Truk to head south. I’m not ready to lose New Caledonia yet, but I’m not ready to defend it either – especially with the first Bde of the 14th Div now going to Luganville. Hopefully this is just a raid, but if it is a landing the KB will likely arrive too late to do anything other than burn fuel and perhaps prohibit expanding the Allied offensive to the New Hebrides. Critical is fuel right now – I just don’t have the stocks built up in either Rabaul or Truk for a sustained venture without diverting tankers from bringing fuel/oil to the Home Islands.

Well, it looks like the Empire has achieved the high-water mark! At least territorially speaking. Moresby was taken and the perimeter established – and I said “established”, not well defended…yet. The perimeter has also seen the Allies nibbling at the denial areas, with Carnarvon and Norfolk Island lost to the first Allied limited offensives. Allied stay behind forces continue to bedevil the IJA by tying down forces. At sea, the IJN was defeated by an inferior force off Carnarvon, and the US CVs finally showed themselves in the South Pacific. In the air, the B-17s have started to influence actions, but so far limited to the South Pacific, while the British have begun nuisance raids into Burma out of Indian bases. in For the month, IJN naval losses were mostly about the Carnarvon fight: the IJN losing a CA and 3 DD for the month. Allied losses were fairly light in surface forces: 1CA, DD, 8SS lost. In the air, Allied air activity is picking up: the loss ratio 196 for Jpn to 156 Allied planes.

INTEL: Good to know where the Allied CVs are – and most, if not all, appear to be in the South Pacific. CVE Hermes was sighted off Perth, and I’m assuming she’s being used to safeguard shipping lanes to Africa/India from Raiders. The Allies seem to be focused on the South Pacific, hence the carriers, but that could change now that Norfolk is taken back. I’m thinking New Caledonia will now become the focus, but will follow the carriers.

SUBWAR: Increased Japanese ASW efforts, especially in the air, have had solid results against the Allied subs. Still, Allied subs continue to be a threat in all corners, but the Sally has evolved into a very lethal ASW platform, especially off the Home Islands. Lackluster IJN I-Boat performance was somewhat redeemed by the damaging of Lady Lex, but Allied warships continue to magically avoid IJN sub concentrations in combat zones.

Japan/Industry. The Nick reached production and was deployed, while the first Tojo equipped Sentai has yet to fit out and deploy. June will see the A6M3 Zero come into production and perhaps the A6M3a as well, with the A6M5 not far off as the Zero R&D hits full stride. The Oscar line R&D effort is slowly gathering momentum, and should have the Ki-43-IIa Oscar come on line in late June to convert the Ki-43-Ic production effort to, and then roll over to the Ki-43-IIb in July (hopefully). Sustaining the Ha-35 engine bonus continues to be the challenge. Two big Oil/Fuel/Resource convoys are moving from the DEI to Japan regularly, but tankers are in short supply, and fuel shortages are limiting operations out of Truk/Rabaul – plenty of fuel in the DEI of course. On the naval side, CVs Junyo and Hiyo have joined the Fleet, and June will see BB Yamato finally completed. Pilot training has finally provided some pilot reserves for both Army and Naval fighter and bomber pilots, and TRACOM is still being filled with most every pilot over 80.

Status: offline 		Northern Pacific/5th Fleet. Still quiet as Paramushiro-jima and other Kurile bases are reinforced, but no sign of Allied activity other than sub patrols.

Central Pacific/4th Fleet. Has been quiet since CA Chicago and a DD hit a mine at Canton. Continue to build up atoll defenses, but resources are in short supply and still need to garrison the minor atolls with a token force to prevent an easy grab.

South Pacific/Southeast Fleet. While Moresby was successfully taken, the Allied garrison managed to withdraw successfully to the SE, and the 18th ID has been unable to complete the task of bringing them to decisive combat and eliminating the threat – that will continue throughout Jun if not into July. Allied pressure has threatened Portland Roads, but that is still holding, and want to keep that Japanese as long as possible to keep Moresby out of Allied fighter range. Norfolk Is was lost, but I didn’t expect to hold it long – was just a denial base to prevent Allied use to transit aircraft from New Zealand to Aus. Now the focus shifts to New Caledonia which isn’t ready for defense, and B-17s and effective naval bombardment apply demonstrated that weakness at the end of the month. Building up defenses there will be the focus in June, likely with the KB needed in support – exacerbating the fuel situation of course, but may also be able to bushwhack an Allied raid.

DEI/SW Pacific. The attack on Bandoeng found that Allied supply was still plentiful, and was bloodily repulsed, so that will be sieged with a division and support for another month or so. While Carnarvon was re-taken by the Allies with a naval victory in support, the current perimeter in Australia extends from Exmouth to Daly Waters. Will look to hold that as best as possible with forces at hand, not much in the way of sizeable reinforcements for Jun. Will see what the Allies bring to bear before committing any major IJA force. Will look to send CVE Taiyo on a raid off SW Australia – goal to interdict the British cruiser force known to be operating out of Perth, and perhaps raiding shipping.

PI. Troops were landed at Cebu and found a division, so they’ll hold on to the beachhead until they can be reinforced. The Manila bombardments are starting to show increased Allied losses, so I figure supplies are dwindling, and will look to make a ground assault in June.

Burma/IO. Pretty quiet on the ground, but Allied air activity has picked up, with India based Brit bombers and fighters hitting random bases – and avoiding the Japanese defenses at Magwe, except for some night raiders. The first Nick Chutai has been operating out of Magwe, and has yet to down one of the night raiders. Will look to bring in Tojos shortly, but other Nick Sentais are slated for the South Pacific to counter the B-17s. On the ground, the IJA’s 55th ID (-) has been reinforced by the 33rd ID, and will have the Imperial Guard Div as well as the 1st Tank Division moving to Burma in Jun. Goal is to hold on to Magwe’s production as long as possible.

China. 13th Army continues to redeploy towards the Canton area, China remains largely quiet.

Japan/Industry: A6M5 Zero R&D accelerated to 10/42. With the calendar moving to Jun, I swap my size 75 A6M2 Zero factory to produce the A6M3 – reduced to size 52 in the process. This leaves a size 25 factory producing the A6M2, which will increase to 30. The A6M3 production will be a short run, only until the A6M3a comes on line in a few weeks. The H6K4 Mavis production switches to the newer H6K5 model, still producing 10 a month. Last on aircraft production, I increased Ki-44-IIa Tojo by 5 to a total of 45 a month; the first Nate squadron will convert to the Tojo in a few days. On the engine side, the Kawasaki Ha-60 R&D is accelerated to 12/42. On the naval side, CV Shokaku begins her Jun refit to get radar at Yokohama.

South Pacific: The Allied Fleet had pulled off of New Caledonian waters, then the CVs came back up just to the south of Koumac, probably looking for the IJN transports that were unloading. The first Bde of the 14th Div has had no interference offloading at Luganville and neither had the SNLF and engineers coming ashore at Koumac, but were spotted, and then departed for safer waters before the CVs came trolling back. Minelayers broke off from Luganville and headed to mine Noumea without issue. KB has departed Truk, and arrived at the forward base of Nauru to take on more fuel and await developments. The second Bde of the 14th ID began loading at Port Moresby, and that Bde will head to Noumea – with the KB in support in the next few days.

DEI/SW Pacific: Exmouth is reinforced with SNLF, but so far there is no indication the Aussies are moving north of Carnarvon for the time being.

PI: NSTR.

Burma/IO: Catch some luck for a change as Bettys hit a slow moving bombardment run against Akyab. PG Soerabaja is seen to sink while PB Erebus is hit with three torps, two of which worked. Also, the Imperial Guard Division completes loading at Batavia and will begin its voyage to Rangoon.

I-25 fails to hit CL Nashville off New Zealand, and I figure this is the US TF(s) returning to Auckland, so I think the Bde can land without too much interference. On New Guinea, the Aussie Moresby defenders keep one step ahead of the IJA’s 18th Div as they pull back into the mountain hex west of Milne Bay where I’m assuming they’ll make their final stand.

DEI/SW Pacific: An Allied cruiser force was sighted off Carnarvon, so the offloading at Exmouth is suspended, and the two PBs brining in supply and some AT guns headed out to sea and await developments. A convoy bringing in a Naval Guards unit to garrison Port Hedland is re-routed NE a bit just in case as well. A Betty Sentai is brought into Broome to reinforce the Nells there, so was hoping with a bit of luck they can make some runs against the cruisers. Further air search shows the cruiser TF went back towards Geraldton, so the reinforcements will head to offload next turn.

Japan/Industry: A6M3a Zero R&D accelerated to 7/42; will take two (30) A6M3a R&D factories to A6M5 research for a total of 7 researching the A6M5. Not worth advancing perhaps a few days for the two A6M3a factories; good with A6M3a arriving in July. The one remaining A6M3a factory will remain and go into production. A6M5 Zero R&D accelerated to 9/42; with the two factory boost, the A6M5 should also be avail next month. K-44-IIb Tojo R&D accelerated to 6/43 – all too slow progress on R&D airframes without the engine bonus!

Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: NSTR.

Central Pacific: NSTR.

South Pacific: The second Bde of the 14th ID arrives and begins offloading at Koumac, where weather has kept it masked from Allied air search so far. The KB has continued SSW from Nauru and crossed into the Coral Sea just west of Ndeni, avoiding a number of Allied subs drawn up to intercept. KB will keep north of New Caledonia, out of sight of prying eyes for a bit. Over Portland Roads, Zeros are mauled by P-40s – 10 Zeros lost to a single P-40, and the Zeros had the altitude. Pilots were fair, but their morale was low, perhaps that was reason for the lopsided loss ratio? BBs then bombard defenses there, but achieve little in support of an Allied attack which is defeated, but IJA ground losses exceeded Allied; 677 to only 110. That’s not good, and it will be tough to maintain Portland Roads through the end of the month. To assist that, another CA bombardment run will go in as another transport TF will arrive at Port Moresby to take off the remaining 14th ID Bde to New Caledonia. And of course, an Allied sub hits one of the three transports in that convoy off Milne Bay. She should make Moresby, but she won’t be loading up any troops, so another TF will depart Rabaul to augment the lift capability.

DEI/SW Pacific: A tanker arrives at Darwin bringing badly needed fuel, and a second is enroute.

PI: Getting close to launching the ground attack in a few days!

Burma/IO: Imperial Guard Division begins offloading at Rangoon, the third IJA division to arrive in Burma. The IG division will take over the right flank (Lashio to Myitkyina) from the 55th ID which will consolidate and reform into Bdes with the soon to arrive 144 In Reg (currently at Singers). Still need more troops in Burma!

China: NSTR.

Japan/Industry: BB Yamato is finally completed! She’ll sail to Yokohama and wait for Shokaku’s refit to complete in about a week before heading to join the Fleet. On a surprising note, the battered CL Yubari (torpedoed and mined back in Feb with dam at (31/79(43)/34)) has finally made it to the repair yards at Yokohama – quite the journey with stops at Gasmata and Rabaul to repair as much as possible without yards.

Kuriles/Aleutians/North Pacific: 8th Garrison Unit begins offloading at Paramushiro Jima; will provide the cornerstone of the Kurile defenses.

Central Pacific: NSTR.

South Pacific: The CA TF (2CA, CL, DDs) bombardment run to Portland Roads is derailed by a successful sub attack which cripples DD Tanikaze (yet ANOTHER DD finds a torp!!), but at least torps missed CA Maya. Tanikaze is broken off to an escort TF, and sets course for Port Moresby – barring another sub encounter, she’ll likely make port. The kicker is the AI decided to have CA Maya as her escort!!! So, the bombardment was extremely lackluster, inflicting only about 30 casualties which did nothing to curtail the next Allied assault. It took two assaults to take the base, inflicting over 900 Japanese casualties to only about 100 Allied. The two SNLF remnants left are stranded, and as I failed to remove any fragments, will be eliminated next turn or so. Not good. Losing Portland Roads makes Moresby a front line position, and its not ready for that role yet. The last Bde of the 14th ID is just now loading up for New Caledonia, and a number of supporting units still need to be delivered from Rabaul to both Moresby and Terapo. AND the 18th ID is still slogging to finish off the Moresby defenders in the jungle rough terrain to the SE, just west of Milne Bay. Lastly, I-25 is hit by a depth charge off Auckland, and is heavily damaged (30/40(40)/0). She’ll attempt to make her way back to Rabaul.

DEI/SW Pacific: The G3M2 Nell Sentai at Broome transfers to Singers to re-equip with the G3M3 version. Once operational, this Sentai will break down and deploy in a number of locations along the DEI, using its excellent range to search for targets in the Indian Ocean.

PI: The ground attack to take Manila goes in next turn….fingers crossed!

Burma/IO: The first operational Ki-44-IIa Tojo Sentai arrives in Rangoon for duty in Burma. Allied bombers continue to conduct random nuisance raids on outlying positions while their fighters fly sweeps over Akyab.
