The Allied invasion of Portugal is just a cheap trick abused by lazy armchair generals who want an easy invasion of Europe, who aren't brave enough to do the historic challenge of invading France. While it's nice that Alvaro tried to follow what other games in the past did, monkey see - monkey do just isn't the best course for designing this game.

Think about the consequences of an Allied invasion of Portugal. The most important question to answer is what Generalissimo Franco have done in such a case. We know that it was the Axis powers who helped Franco win his civil war and Spain was helping Germany quietly, like sending them a whole division. Had the Allies invaded Portugal then Spain should automatically join the Axis as that is the most likely reaction Franco would have had. He would have no delusions about where the Allies were headed next and it's doubtful he would've gotten a good deal from the Allies so he would've sided with his old pal Adolph.

Please fix this so that Spain immediately joins the Axis if the Allies invade Portugal, it's the only way to keep an Allied player honest since Portugal was given too much port capacity near Lisbon.

That's already done in 1.00.09 after a lot of research and thinking.

Allies invade Portugal, Spain joins the Axis.
