I finally get my bottom in gear and take out the Italian destroyers in the Red Sea. I also begin the attack on Massawa...

Not too much damage this time thankfully.

The Afrika Korps will soon be making its presence felt....

In China I now have infantry weapons researched. I upgrade the units I can not in enemy ZOC. That leaves 6 vulnerable this turn but we'll have to see what happens.

The turn is little more than just upgrading and reinforcing everything in sight...

The Japanese caused some losses to my front line units. Where possible I've replaced this with upgraded units. However a newly arrived and reconstituted 4th Army has arrived without the upgrade, and the valiant defenders of Nanning remain in original spec too.

The remainder of the turn continues the policy of reinforcing and upgrading anything and everything I can. Research and purchasing have largely gone out of the window for the moment.

The Japanese continue to pound away around Nanning, but further north they seem to have decided to move into the mountains between Chungking and Ichang.

There aren't enough points!! I have managed to get back to some research with the US and USSR, but the British simply can't afford to at present.

The feint to the north appears to be just that. The Japanese make a renewed bid for Kweichow....

The Axis invade Egypt and take Mersah Matruh. I spend 60 points to try and assist Prince Paul in Yugoslavia.

No change to the MO - the USSR and USA are able to get some research done as well as a few purchases. The British are desperately trying to ensure that everything is as reinforced and upgraded as they can.

The Japanese continue with attacks in the same areas. Two corps were badly shot up. I have to assume that one of these will be successful sooner rather than later...

I am asked if I want to spend 140 points to help being the Iraqi revolt to order. I will say No as frankly I can't spare the points....

In China there is no change to the Japanese MO (but the attack north of Nanning was more concentrated). My fighter unit took a big hit but no units destroyed.

The Germans are ominously building up in the east. I think an early Barbarossa is on the cards.....

Well that was a waste of points - Yugoslavia joins the Axis....

Worryingly the Japanese have moved units south - no doubt to have another go at Nanning and the corps to the north. I will save as many points as I can to try and build a bomber next turn.

There is potentially a big battle brewing at sea..... watch this space.

I mis-read - the Yugoslavs joined the Allies - money well spent

Its all happening!!!!

I thought with Yugoslavia in the war on the Allies side, the invasion of the USSR may wait a while..... no such luck.

Sadly the defenders of Nanning and environs are facing their end. As suspected, the Japanese have started to pull back from the north and concentrate their efforts on the prize.

In order to try and spoil the party I have decided to open up a new front. More anon...

You may recall I mentioned a potential naval battle.... Well the German/Italian forces have been pounding away against Malta by air and sea for some time now. The Regia Marina set up around the island.

Submarine and destroyer pickets were set up to the east but there does not appear to be anything to the west. I decided to risk sending a fleet from the UK to see if I could pincer the Italian Navy. This is risky because there are a number of aircraft on Sicily that can be turned against my ships, but....

So at the end of last turn I sailed my small naval force from Alexandria. My sub found the Italian destroyers and I was able to sink them with a battleship squadron. However, that was not before my heavy cruisers ran into a submarine I hadn't detected.

I then sent my carrier force forward and tried (unsuccessfully) to sink an Italian transport carrying troops for Libya. This is where last turn ended....

The Italians do not appear to have detected my force in the west. The following counter-attack took place by the Regia Marina.

I missed the replay so apart from knowing that a carrier has been sunk, I've got no idea what by, how or where the Italians went....

I was sadly right about China. The Japanese have switched focus on Nanning and taken the corps to the north... damn.

I decide to not go quietly and attack the Japanese corps to the north of Nanning - inflicting some casualties. I will try and extract XXX and XII Corps if I can.

Meanwhile, in order to try and relieve the pressure in the south, I have decided to advance in Central China. I am not naïve to assume I will do much damage, but I am hoping sheer weight of numbers will at least give the Japanese a distraction to marching west in the south.

I reinforce what I can in the Western Desert. There is no possibility of a counter-attack with the odds on offer. Shore bombardment from my battleship had no effect, but my bombers did some damage at least.

At sea, my subs find what must have been the battleship that sank my carrier - and reduce it to 2 points. Sadly the Italian subs evaded four or five attempts at destruction by diving....

The Northern Front is being shown as I at least have some units here to show.... The Soviet Navy destroy a destroyer squadron and damage a battlecruiser.
