The Japanese destroy one of my corps that stuck it's head into the lions den.... Undaunted, I continue to press, although bad weather precludes any attack in the far north.

In the centre I continue to push south to try and force a withdrawal of the Japanese from Changsha. While in the south progress is made as the British take Hainan and a Chinese light tank unit occupies Pakhoi which was emptied thanks to a British/Chinese joint action.

The Japanese did not chase after the British fleet but instead concentrated on trying to destroy my two US subs which have been really useful as scouts.

In the desert, Tobruk should hopefully fall next turn.

In the Soviet Union the Germans prove remarkably hard to even hurt in the south and a German corps in Salsk survives easily despite me throwing everything at it.

There is better news to the north where I re-take Bryansk - but again it was very hard work....

So in terms of history, I am behind in the USSR, behind in the desert, and nowhere near Italy. Still China are doing okay...

The situation in China is little changed. The Japanese did at least fall back from Changsha, but I can make no headway elsewhere.

In the desert, the bunting goes out.... Tobruk has fallen...

Snow everywhere means nothing happens in the USSR.

Total disaster. I was going to bring the Home Fleet into the North Sea to protect my invasion convoys but didn't want to alert the Germans. Instead the Germans enter the Channel and make mincemeat of my invasion fleet....

That's D-Day over before it's begun....

Worse - the German BB and u-boat that entered the Channel appear invulnerable to my forces - despite not being as advanced... I think I'll write this off....

So for larks I decide to invade Manchuria with the Soviets... well not larks as such, but the Chinese are getting nowhere and I figure they could do with a hand to divert Japanese troops.

In other news, my lead forces are almost nearly close to Tripoli

The Germans retreat largely in good order from the Kuban, although I did manage to take out a corps. Poor weather stops play everywhere else.

Well the plan worked!! The Japanese withdraw in the north as the Soviet invasion of Manchuria proceeds.

And that was as good as the turn got really....

The Germans are well entrenched in the USSR and so any gain made takes so many units. It's a snails pace at present...

Manchuria is a beacon of light in a dark, dark war for the Allies A Japanese corps is destroyed in the west and in the east too...

I catch a break in the Solomons. Having lost an army and an armoured corps to attrition, the Japanese go after the remaining two units - leaving just a bomber in Kukum. My gamble paid off because although I can't occupy the port, I assume I will win the race to it?

The Germans in Russia just seem impregnable. They obviously must have decent tech, but are also so numerous. I can't make any headway...

What a total disaster of a turn??

Firstly I didn't win my 'race' because the Japanese had a SNLF unit that could reach..... But it appears the unit may have come from New Guinea as I have been able to walk into Port Moresby.

I declare war on Vichy but can't make an amphib landing in Algeria....

Ho hum...

Over to the Soviet Union and I was wrong about me moving forward at a snails pace; the Germans are actually stronger.... mind you, this game is worth playing just for the Katayusha sound effect

A mixed - but mostly good turn.

The Japanese lost a Maritime bomber attacking my fleet.

The Japanese have two enclaves left in China. Sadly one of their units got away by sea, evading my sub....

Meanwhile in Manchuria the Allies make significant progress, although the Japanese have been able to divert units. Harbin and Seishin fall this turn, and numerous forces close on Mukden.

Sadly that is as good as its gets. I'm at war with Vichy and yet I can't invade Algeria.... No idea what I am missing.

Tripoli falls but at this stage that doesn't really matter.

Worse is the situation in the USSR where the Germans have so many quality units I've actually had to withdraw to stop being wiped out. Strange.

Looks like the game in Europe will simply fizzle out with the Allies having made no ground.

I focus on the few positives...

The Chinese will be tasked with trying to take Manchuria and Korea. The Soviets have other things to worry about.

It seems that declaring war on Vichy doesn't declare war on Algeria or Tunisia.... The British are just outside Tunis and the Allies take what for some reason is called Algeria but should be Morocco.

The mother of all battles radio reports a major naval battle in the Pacific. The Americans lose a carrier and a destroyer picket, while the British lose a destroyer too.

To say I am hacked off about the weather is an understatement (great game mechanic though - so like the real thing). I have land based maritime bombers and many CV but I can't do anything with them....

I try and find where the enemy are using SS and DD. I find his carriers but he has a ring of BB guarding them. I move what units I can north of Truk and destroy a carrier using CA/CL/DD.

I send a battleship squadron to the north of Truk and, with a destroyer squadron. I despatch another CV. I use three battleships to destroy two weakened enemy battleships in the CV screen but am now almost out of non-CV ships....

I decide to use my last two CA to damage two carriers. My own carriers move away. Controversial (think Fletcher at Guadalcanal) but there are too many enemy BB and CA.

I don't know what the final score was - I think 2 or 3 BB and 2 or 3 CV plus 2 damaged.

The Japanese response at sea was not what I expected - perhaps I was too chicken with my carriers.....

Land based air seriously mauled a BB but no loses were taken.

Once again weather stops me flying!!!! what the.....

But I decide to pursue regardless. My fleet are now badly separated, but I manage to find a BB and CVL, both of which are sunk, and I find another CV in port which is damaged.

I've at last managed an amphib invasion!! and take Truk.

That was a frantic turn..... I really wish we could slow the replay up. There was some fleet comings and goings I really wanted to understand where on the map they were....

I suppose there was some good effect in that the Germans have started to withdraw, but I can't follow up. I concentrated my aircraft here but they can't fly.....

Damn. A Japanese heavy cruiser hung around off Truk and sunk a transport in a classic hit and run.... I hope its only one.... I manage to find the squadron and destroy it.

Getting nowhere in the desert I decide to declare war on Spain.

While in the USSR the Germans continue to pull back in good order in selected places.

Nothing happening in Manchuria/Korea thanks to the weather and the need to build up. However in China I am still trying to reduce the last pocket of resistance.... it's a slow process.

In FIC I start to reduce the last resistance in Saigon.
