Japanese bombers continue to hit Kunming, keeping it badly damaged. Taking a day off today. The bombers need some repair. Some bombers will support the next attack just to the northwest of Kunming.

24 Lilys bombed the retreating Allied troops south of Katherine. 3 Warhawks were on ranged CAP from the south, and they managed to shoot down 6 Lilys after bombs were dropped.

B-17F bombed Milne Bay for the first time. Easy target, no CAP. I'm protecting Port Moresby, and the Japanese can't protect everything. Not in the numbers needed to do any good against B-17s. This is the first sighting of the "F" model.

No sign of the British task forces that were engaged in the Indian Ocean yesterday. I do see a task force approaching Diego Garcia from the southeast. I had seen it yesterday also. Appears to be cruisers and destroyers. They aren't the ones fought in the big battles yesterday. Those task forces are either in bad weather or they took a detour, maybe to the west towards Diego Garcia. Lots of subs saw nothing.

Damaged Japanese ships will pass to the north of Sabang, not hugging the coast in the most obvious route to the south, and head south to Singapore.

I-32 spotted 3 AMCs, CL Dauntless and 2 DDs southeast of Diego Garcia. The sub didn't get a shot off and the task force is presumed to have made it to the island.

Hurricanes and Blens hit Schwebo in Burma. The base is building but I don't base any air there. Target of opportunity.

OPilot is paying more attention to the Aleutians. Now there are B-17s, B-24s and B-26's bombing Adak Island. I'm moving a big Zero unit there for a trap in a couple of days.

A Japanese combat engineer unit invaded Gove Island. It is an Allied dot base, undeveloped and undefended. It is within bomber range of Australian bases though. I'll take the risk and unload for another day.

Another Japanese attack northwest of Kunming. The odds were terrible, with a strong Chinese corps having reinforced the other previously defeated units. But the results were acceptable. We will continue attacking until the 55th Division is unable to continue, and then we'll swap in a fresh division from adjacent Tsuyung.

We will attack again near Kunming today. Terrible odds and decent results yesterday. We'll see what happens today. Bombers will support and also hit Kunming.

Zeros moved to the Aleutians to try to catch the US bombers over Adak today.

B-17s bombed Tsuyung. Others bombed Japanese troops at Katherine.

2 US subs got sniffs of my primary convoy route into Nagasaki. Flying Fish missed an xAK carrying resources and Triton missed an AO carrying oil. My route is not direct and went undiscovered for quite awhile.

I-15 hit AO Sepulga with a torpedo near Christmas Island. The AO was carrying fuel and burned. Audio suggest that it sank. An SC did minor damage to the sub. The subchaser has the Mousetrap ASW device, now seen for the first time.

I-159 moved into Diego Garcia and paid the price, getting hit with a depth charge.

Japanese bombers continue to bomb Kunming and the contested hex to the northwest. Still lots of damaged P-40Es on the ground at Kunming. 3 were destroyed on the ground.

Zeros from Lashio swept Dimapur for the first time, finding P-40Es. The Zeros did well, downing 15 Warhawks while losing 7 of their own. Showing interest in the Indian airbases keeps the enemy CAP spread out.

We attack in far northern China.

Just west of Colombo, I-17 spotted the big TF with Ramilles and Revenge in it. 6 torpedoes were fired at the slow battleship Ramilles, but all missed. This was my last chance to hit the British ships as they returned to Ceylon. They are all (as far as I can tell) at Colombo now.

Bombed Kunming as usual. Still damaged P-40Es on the ground there.

I've decided to pull most of the unrestricted divisions out of China. They were recovering at Liuchow after the unsuccessful assaults at Tuyun. 3 divisions, 2 tank regiments, 5 artillery units, 2 small AA units, and 2 engineer units will head to Haiphong. Transports will pick them up and move them out to undetermined locations.

B-17Es and B-24Ds bombed Adak Island, but found over 40 Zeros on LRCAP from an island 2 hexes away. The bombers were very effective sweepers, as usual, damaging just over half of the Zeros. 2 Zeros were shot down as were 2 B-17Es and a B-24D. No base damage done.

KB has made the move from Rabaul east, passing north of enemy held Baker Island, and moved southeast between enemy bases. All unspotted. So far.

Battleship Fuso and escorts bombarded Cocos Island. It was a weak bombardment, damaging a few Martlets and Swordfish stuck on the island, and doing minor base damage. No hits to the British unit there, if it is still there.

Invaded Waingapoe, in the chain of islands between Java and Timor. No defenders.

Heavily bombed Kunming and the enemy stack NW of it. Flak at Kunming was notably better, downing a couple of bombers that were flying at 6000 feet. Not showing many guns at Kunming though. Attacked again in the hex NW of Kunming. Again, 1 to 9 odds, but decent results. Took 379 casualties and caused 290. Most of the tank regiment is disabled now, though, and will pull back to Paoshan to recover. A tank division is on the long, slow road to join the fight near Kunming.

Attacking west of Yenan, in northern China.

KB continues to roam behind enemy lines.

US subs are still patrolling NW of Darwin.

Tried to hit light industry at Kunming. It has 100 and if I do get troops into Kunming, it won't be soon. Bombers do terribly in thunderstorms and hit nothing. I'll go back to hit the airfield and troops. Kunming still has supply, despite daily bombing and the rest of China showing signs of lack of supply. Kunming is showing 100 for its airbase damage on mouseover.

3 Japanese divisions are in place to attack the big Chinese stack just west of Yenan. But the divisions are over-stacked a bit. 45k in a 40k hex, and it is making it hard to get enough supply to them to attack. More transports are moved to the area to help. The enemy may get its troops back into Yenan for the final stand of these isolated units.

KB strikes well to the east of Pago Pago. The tankers were empty and eastbound.

Seeing that damage at Port Moresby was mostly repaired, I almost moved the Nicks and Zeros back in for defense. I did not. I left them at Rabaul. And the B-26s came back, unescorted. Missed opportunity. I'll get them eventually.

Nells from Batavia bombed the 1st Somerset LI Battalion on Cocos Islands, confirming that the unit is still there. The base is trashed. I'll be taking it back in a few weeks.

Japanese troops now have enough supply to attack just west of Yenan. But now that I have a unit in Yenan, I see that they would have a retreat route to the south, one that would cut off my troops on that trail to the west. Not good, so no attack yet. Armor will cover that hex in a couple of days. Transports will continue to airdrop supply to those troops in the attack hex.

I-18 missed light cruiser Adelaide with 2 torpedoes just north of New Zealand. Lots of enemy shipping at Norfolk Island again.

KB stayed in place well to the east of Pago Pago, having refueled one of the carrier TFs yesterday. The other refueled today, and the TFs will move one hex to the NW at the most. KB and the AOs were spotted, and all enemy ships had fled the area.

4 Japanese destroyers arrived at Adak Island, on an ASW mission, and found S-46 there. The sub was hit by a depth charge and some near misses. Probably not enough to sink the sub. Part of the destroyers mission was to attract naval bombers to Adak, if there were any to the west. 13 B-26s showed up in the morning and again in the afternoon to attack the destroyers. But I had forgotten to put the 45 Zeros on LRCAP from a nearby island. The B-26s flew low level at 1000 feet, and one bomb hit destroyer Akigumo. It is SYS 20/FLOT 16-5/ENG 10-3/FIRE 0. It will return to Tokyo for repairs. The other 3 destroyers will stay another day, and this time, the Zeros have gotten their orders.

Another grinding attack northwest of Kunming. 212 Japanese casualties and 126 Chinese. The Japanese 55th Division is over half disabled now, and will be replaced soon by another fresh division. A tank division will be joining in. We'll see how that goes in about a week.

Battleships Hyuga and Ise were spotted north of Koumac. That is fine. They don't have an offensive mission at the moment. I want them in the area of New Caledonia and Luganville, should either be invaded.

More Japanese bombing around Kunming. Today will be the last day of attacks for the depleted Japanese division just northwest of Kunming. Then it will be replaced by a fresh division and a tank division. How will the tanks do in the mountains? We shall see. The enemy is consistently out of supply there, although it consistently has supply at adjacent Kunming. At least enough for the flak to fire.

B-17Es again attacked Japanese tanks at Daly Waters, but this time, A6M3s were on LRCAP from Katherine. 5 B17Es were lost, as were 5 Zeros, most to ops losses. This was a one-time trap, with no air support at Katherine. The Zeros now railed back to Darwin to recover. I will try to surprise OPilot and bomb Conclurry with 12 Nells. The B17s are based at Conclurry.

The 92nd Chinese Corps crushed the 2nd Mortar Battalion between Mengtze and Kunming. This was expected. What wasn't expected was how close the odds were, considering.

Ground combat at 67,49 (near Mengtze)

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 12306 troops, 38 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 435

Defending force 465 troops, 39 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1

Allied adjusted assault: 93

Japanese adjusted defense: 19

Allied assault odds: 4 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), leaders(-), supply(-)

Japanese ground losses:

Allied ground losses:

Mengtze has a couple of para units and some engineers, and is building. It is a size 1 fort. It should be tougher for the Chinese to retake (for the third time) if OPilot chooses to try. One the tank division shows itself northwest of Kunming, I don't expect him to move south.

KB moved towards Pago Pago and was spotted 9 hexes to its east northeast. A good recon of the base shows that there are no ships of value still there, and about 25k men. KB will now moved northwest and head towards Luganville, splitting Pago Pago and Baker Island by 9 hexes each.

Lots of enemy shipping at Norfolk Island again. Looks like even more troops unloading there. 2 big surface groups there, which could hit Noumea without warning. I have a big cruiser TF at Noumea, and a battleship TF will arrive today. Plenty of Zeros for cover.

Bombed Kunming and the contested hex northwest of it, as is the case just about every day.

Raided Cloncurry with 6 Nells but found 16 P-40Es there. OPilot was ready. Fortunately, the Warhawks didn't get to the Nells. The Nells barely scratched the runway bombing in overcast. Won't try that again, but maybe it'll keep some enemy fighters there.

We attack the surrounded Chinese pocket near Yenan. Odds were good, results were not as good as expected.

Ground combat at 87,37 (near Yenan)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 41090 troops, 328 guns, 70 vehicles, Assault Value = 1304

Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 51 disabled

I'd like to avoid eliminating the Chinese corps, as they'll just respawn back at the capital where they can be useful to OPilot. Here, these corps are trapped and useless. I may just wear them down and pin them.

Way up in northern China, I spoke too soon about the Japanese armor being unstoppable against unsupplied Chinese. I took some losses today.

Ground combat at 81,24 (near Ansi)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 366 troops, 0 guns, 71 vehicles, Assault Value = 39

And I apparently did one too many attacks northwest of Kunming. I wanted to exhaust my division before swapping it out. This attack went a bit too far. There's a chance OPilot may counter-attack after this result.

Patrol boat Zuiko Maru spotted a minefield at the vulnerable entrance to Rangoon. It cleared one mine, and not by running into it. Later in the day, however, patrol boat Nikkai Maru found a mine the old fashioned way, and the ship was damaged. Nikkai Maru is escorting small tankers between Rangoon and Georgetown. My strategy for getting fuel and oil out of Rangoon is to ship it to Georgetown. It will flow quickly to Bangkok, or usually Singapore. I have Singapore set to stockpile fuel and oil, since I unload both from Palembang there, and I want it to stay there to reload on big tankers for Japan.

Bombed Kunming and adjacent hex again. A Japanese tank division just reinforced the contested hex. The depleted infantry division will now move back while a fresh division moves in. When the swap is complete, the attacks begin again.

S-33 sank xAK Ekkai Maru at Wake Island. xAKs are delivering an infantry and an artillery unit to Wake. The ship was already unloaded when it was sunk. Didn't matter that I had an unusually strong ASW escort with it: 3 destroyers. They didn't find the sub. A couple of the xAKs still have to unload completely, so I split off 2 destroyers into a dedicated ASW TF. OPilot has done an excellent job with the "S" boats. His strategy is just to sit right on Japanese bases, and wait for the traffic to come to them. I can't mine them all or have ASW forces everywhere, so the strategy works. Japanese ASW isn't the greatest when it is on the scene anyhow.

KB moved further northwest near Funafuti. It is still spotted. Will recon the Allied islands nearby and see if there are any hidden support ships there.

Destroyer Hamakaze spotted S-23 at Wake Island, and did so 3 times during the night, but never located it for an attack.

Patrol boat Tosho Maru hit a mine near Rangoon and sank. The patrol boat TF was west of Rangoon when mines were found there yesterday. I could have diverted the patrol boats to another port but did not.

Just west of Yenan, the Chinese are being ground down. They are surrounded, with movement possible only to Yenan to the east. No retreat is possible, as I have Japanese forces in Yenan also. I may take the time to give them a retreat path away from Yenan, but that would take a good deal of time given the terrain in the area. I'd rather pin them than eliminate them.

KB was spotted west of Funafuti. Small US units were spotted both at Funafuti and the other size 1 port nearby. No support ships seen in port. There are Catalinas based at one of those ports. Single destroyers will bombard both ports since they are there anyhow. KB will continue west to a point north of Luganville, where it will refuel again. I plan on it staying in the area.

Multiple enemy TFs spotted south of Pago Pago during the night. Since nothing was seen during the day, I can't identify them. Could be ships that fled to the south of Pago Pago when KB approached, and now they are returning. Pago Pago is at its maximum port and airfield size.

Single Japanese destroyers bombarded Vaitupu and Funafuti to little effect.

Nicks swept Horn Island, finding no fighters. Sallys bombed, damaging some Hudsons, destroying 2 of them, and damaging an F-4 recon plane. Minor base damage.

AMc Kaisho Maru started to clear the mines from the approach to Rangoon. Found another field there and is still working on it.

Nells attacked 2 AMs at Horn Island. In the morning, torpedoes missed. In the afternoon, AM Launceton was hit with a torpedo and sunk.

Kunming and adjacent hex bombed heavily by the Japanese, as usual. Orders given for the attack in the adjacent hex, the first with the tank division and the fresh infantry division.

Japanese troops are now on the move to the front south of Sian, and out of Ningsia towards Lanchow. The Lanchow offensive will be an immediate river crossing in a few days. The Sian offensive will take some time to get to the front, moving about 3 hexes.

Japanese combat ships moved back to Noumea. Allied ships ran away from Norfolk Island, leaving just PT boats. And lots of mines. No point in running into Norfolk if my approach is spotted. OPilot isn't staying. I'll reevaluate when KB moves down to Noumea. KB just refueled north of Luganville, and was not spotted for the first time in over a week.

We got 2 turns done today. Turns have become shorter to do. We're in the transition phase of the war. Less offensive action by the Japanese, and not much from the Allies, yet.

Plunger hit patrol boat Bisaku Maru with a torpedo south of Kyushu, sinking the patrol boat. PBs are in the area hunting subs but doing little.

Dutch sub O21 hit huge tanker Hoyo Maru with 2 torpedoes in the straits near Balikpapan. The tanker was loaded with fuel. It burned and sank. I haven't lost many tankers so far, but this was a very big one. It had fuel headed for Rabaul, along with another huge tanker. Just a sign of what is to come, when the US subs become as effective as the Dutch ones.

OPilot sees my 2 divisions that left Katha headed east to Myitkyina. Lots of Warhawks swept the hex over the troops, then lots of medium and heavy bombers hit them. It is all jungle terrain here, so I will ignore the attention. Katha is a size 1 airfield but can't pull much supply for the Myitkyina assault, much less base fighters there. And having so many Indian airbases so close, it probably isn't worth trying.

B-17s bombed Katherine, doing minor base damage.

My first attack near Kunming with a fresh infantry division and a tank division didn't go as well as I had hoped. Did destroy some enemy squads but that doesn't matter as much for the Chinese. They won't be making many disabled squads able anyhow. The infantry division took the brunt of the losses. The tank division is in good shape. We'll attack again when resupplied.

Skipjack sank sub chaser Ch 3 near Koepang. Not a dud. Seal hit a patrol boat south of Kyushu, but it was a dud.

The usual heavy Japanese bombing of Kunming and adjacent hex. Lots of Warhawks damaged on the ground. I wonder if OPilot tried to fly some in but found that the airfield was too damaged to fly. They didn't. Will continue to hit the base.

Enterprise was reportedly not sunk as thought earlier. I really had thought that it had gone down. Unfortunate.

Activity in China picking up. My moves will cause more distress around Sian.

Albacore hit sub chaser Ch 32 with a dud torpedo near Amami Oshima.

I swept Norfolk Island heavily with Zeros. With KB and surface TFs having moved northeast of Norfolk at a range of 8 hexes, I wanted to show more interest in Norfolk, and get OPilot to think that I'm coming this time. The Zeros ran into a layered CAP F4F-4s at 30000 feet, F4F-3As at 25000 feet, and P-39Ds at 15000 feet. I swept at 20000 feet, knowing that I couldn't get above the Wildcats. I lost 39 Zeros while downing 8 Wildcats and 4 P-39s. Not good. KB and covering TFs were spotted. KB will now move to the SE, trying to split between Norfolk Island and Suva, staying 11 or 12 hexes from both. It's unlikely that KB will stay unspotted, but if they do, they'll continue towards New Zealand in a roundabout manner. AOs are moving with them.

Another Japanese attack NW of Kunming, with results that aren't good enough for success. 1 to 3 odds. 1310 Japanese casualties and 635 Chinese. OPilot brought another fresh corps into the hex, giving him 2 big ones there. He's way over-stacked, with the ones swapping out not out yet due to bombing. But it doesn't seem to be hurting him. He's out of supply regardless.

4 Japanese divisions cross the river out of Ningsia towards Lanchow in far northern China. Good result. Waiting for resupply to continue the attack.

xAKLs were spotted at Cocos Islands yesterday. I sent 5 destroyers at full speed from Batavia to Cocos, hoping that they could make the 18 hexes. They did.

xAKL Illinoian, Shell hits 10, Torpedo hits 3, and is sunk
xAKL Santa Ana, Shell hits 33, and is sunk
xAKL Memphis City, Shell hits 12, and is sunk

The Allied ships never got a shot off. No troops lost. Could have brought supply and intended to pick up the ground unit, or the air fragment there.

Lots of Allied air hit Japanese troops advancing from Katha to Myitkyina.

Albacore hit a tanker Ogura Maru #1 near Amami Oshima, but it was a dud. I may have to alter my convoy route.

KB split off to the southeast while the surface groups returned to Noumea, and KB was spotted 10/10 D/L. I ordered KB back to the north. Little to no chance of slipping to the south towards New Zealand without being spotted. Too many Catalinas in the area. I did spot some Allied shipping at a base well to the southeast of Suva. They will run now though. KB will be kept in the South Pacific for now.

My big plan for western China just isn't working. I can't break through in the mountains by Kunming. Will now resort to constant bombardments instead of attacks, but that won't work either. As long as OPilot can keep swapping in a fresh corps occasionally, we are stopped. I will start a very slow flanking maneuver northeast of Kunming. That won't work unless OPilot panics and evacuates Kunming. Doubtful. And there won't be a threat for over a month.

40 Zeros intercepted 16 Hurricanes sweeping near Kalemyo. OPilot has been showing ground movement into this hex, but nothing yet. I've seen the intended movement, and he knows that I've seen it. I have 1/3 of a Japanese division on the south side of the river. May or may not be enough for a defense. Anyhow, the Hurricanes got the better of the fight, coming in high. But then bombers arrived, without escorts. Wellingtons and B-25Cs attacked, then more Wellingtons and Blens. Some Zeros were still flying, and many bombers were shot down. Total air losses were 17 Blens, 13 Wellingtons, 6 B-25Cs and 6 Hurricane IIb's for the cost of 17 Zeros.

With KB threatening Norfolk Island, OPilot pulled his fighters and bombers out. So I bombed with 21 Sallys and did moderate base damage. Damaged a few planes on the ground.

New offensive to begin south of Sian.

Bettys bombed the airfield on Cocos Island, doing moderate damage and hitting some Martlets on the ground. No enemy shipping seen in the area.

Lots of US medium and light bombers hit Japanese troops south of Daly Waters, in clear terrain. The troops have given up on the pursuit of the enemy to the south, and are heading north. Clear terrain so it's easy bombing. I did have some Zeros on LRCAP from Katherine, but I was protecting an armor unit just to the west of where the bombers showed up. P-40s did sweep that bombed hex also.

I opened up a new offensive in China, south of Sian, coming from Nanyang. The first attack wasn't great but we should break through here. The biggest obstacle is the wooded terrain all the way to Sian. OPilot has a strong defense here early in the war. I made a very early push here but the terrain prevented a move to Sian. OPilot has stripped quite a bit from this front, pulling units out to go to other threatened areas of China. I'm hopeful for a push to Sian, although my fairly limited. Besides what is in this attack, reinforcements include a division cutting in from the east, and a half disabled division resting at Nanyang. But the enemy is far worse off.

KB stayed hidden east of Koumac and refueled. It will now move to the northwest of Luganville. My gut instinct is telling me that OPilot sees my strength in the South Pacific and will make his first big move somewhere else. Maybe the Marshalls. Maybe the Aleutians. I got 3 separate heavy activity messages at Pearl Harbor today. And I see a battleship force on the way to presumably bombard Adak Island.

I will stay prepared at Luganville and Noumea, but I may move KB to the Marshalls or even to the Aleutians. My number one priority is to get the US carriers while the Japanese have an advantage. I will go anywhere to make that happen.

The 87th Mountain Regiment invaded Atka Island in the Aleutians. Atka is 2 hexes east of Adak Island, which is my main Japanese base in the Aleutians. Atka had originally been Allied owned and minimally occupied earlier in the war. OPilot evacuated it with my push into the Aleutians. It flipped to the Japanese. Now the Americans are back. Atka is a size 1 port and has no airfield. I moved Sallys and Zeros to hit the enemy troops, then hit the port after the undefended base is lost.

Bettys and Nells bombed Horn Island, with an Oscar sweep. No CAP. ACM General Frank was sunk in the port, which took moderate damage. The airbase was heavily damaged. Clear terrain at Horn.

Magwe got 4 squadrons of Hurricanes sweeping, higher than my 40 or so Oscars on CAP. It was a massacre. 25 Oscars lost and just 2 Hurricanes shot down. Some oil lost when B-24s bombed. Flak was heavy though. The oil will be lost at Magwe over time. I can't commit 3 or 4 air units to protect it against so many fighters. It's just too close to India. I'll take whatever oil I can get for as long as I can.

With 2 Japanese divisions about to move into Myitkyina, the Allied troops left it, going north to the dot base in the adjacent hex. Thai troops and one Japanese division will follow. The other Japanese division will move to Myitkyina and then rail back to the west.

The new push towards Sian from the south continues. This is the second attack in two days, and the enemy is breaking.

Sallys from Amchitka bombed US troops invading Atka Island, doing minor damage. 21 Wildcats intercepted. The Wildcat unit had been split into 3 parts, creating a stacked CAP at 30000, 20000 and 15000 feet. Even so, although they intercepted the Sallys at 6000 feet, they didn't actually engage them. Zeros were supposed to escort the Sallys but did not. A CVE was spotted in the invasion convoy. Today the Zeros will sweep Atka Island, which flipped to the Allies. Subs hope to find the CVE if it returns to Diamond Harbor.

Got the expected breakthrough south of Sian.

KB is moving, undetected, to the Nauru Island area, west of the Marshalls. My gut is still telling me that the Marshalls is the place to be. We'll lurk there with a battleship TF and some AOs. If the US carriers go to the Aleutians for a big amphibious push, I won't be able to stop that right now. With 3 SigInt heavy activity messages at Pearl Harbor yesterday, I think that something big is on the way. OPilot wouldn't send the US carriers back to Pearl just to return back to the South Pacific. That's why I think it's the Marshalls or the Aleutians. And he just did a small invasion in the Aleutians, with his big CVs, so I rank the Aleutian's chances lower. I want to ambush the US carriers, and will continue to burn fuel to do so.

I made a big effort at Kunming, send all of the bombers in the area to hit the light industry there. About 150 bombers damaged a whole 2 light industry in moderate rain. Disappointing. I think I need to take out the LI to hurt the supply situation at Kunming itself. It has heavy industry too, but I'm assuming that the fuel situation in China is critically low, so I won't hit the HI.

Allied light bombers hit the 1st Ind. Tank Co near Daly Waters, severely disabling it.

KB is still not spotted, now west of Tarawa. Whatever enemy ships were poking around SE of Tabiteuea yesterday were not seen today. Probably a destroyer probing mission.

I'll wait to see what's next for the US carriers. There has been absolutely no heavy SigInt activity messages since the triple message at Pearl Harbor days ago. My experience tells me that the US carriers, and maybe lots of other TFs, are on the move. All just a guess, of course. They could be going anywhere or upgrading or doing nothing at Pearl Harbor. But I've given myself an opportunity to ambush in the Marshalls, if I guess right.

RO-62 misses a golden opportunity at Dutch Harbor. The sub slipped into the harbor, braving any mines that might be there, and fired 2 torpedoes at AKE Mobile City, but missed. Enemy ships moving west from Dutch Harbor again. I'm moving Vals to the Aleutians but they'll only get to Attu today. Short legs.

Sent the Japanese bombers to Kunming again, bombing the light industry. Light rain but got 24 damaged light industry, so better results this time. It will continue.

Wirraways and A-24s hit the tank company near Daly Waters again. Set up LRCAP over the unit for today.

Bombarded at Tuyun for the first time in a long while. The enemy is still strong but it looks like I can get some results with bombardments. I really wanted a breakthrough here but that wasn't going to happen. I may try again later but it looks pretty hopeless, despite no supply for the Chinese.

Ground combat at Tuyun (74,51)

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 24981 troops, 299 guns, 87 vehicles, Assault Value = 643

Defending force 58574 troops, 271 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1837

Allied ground losses:
100 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 9 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 5 (1 destroyed, 4 disabled)

Assaulting units:
3rd Division
58th Division
14th Ind.Art.Mortar Battalion
52nd Ind.Mtn.Gun Battalion
30th Field AA Machinecannon Company
16th Army
2nd Ind.Art.Mortar Battalion
3rd Medium Field Artillery Regiment
17th Medium Field Artillery Regiment

Defending units:
3rd Chinese Corps
21st Chinese Corps
76th Chinese Corps
57th Chinese Corps
31st Chinese Corps
66th Chinese Corps
34th Group Army

3 SigInt messages with heavy activity at Pearl Harbor again. Maybe it's just a busy place! Seriously, I do think something is up in the Central Pacific. Just guesswork for now. KB continues to hang out NW of Tarawa, unspotted.

When playing as Japan I gave up even looking at sigintel years ago. I found it worse than useless.....leads to wild goose-chases!!

I'm guessing that with his CV situation he won't risk much of anything until the new CVs/CVLs start flowing like saki. Perhaps the only thing that would draw remaining CVs out is a threat he could not ignore.

I wonder where Enterprise would have limped to?

I missed my golden opportunity to take out the US carriers with my Auckland raid earlier in the war. Got into perfect position, the US carriers were in task forces at Auckland, not much fighter cover, and bad weather prevented my strikes. Since then, I've continued to try to get them. It may lead to wild goose chases. At least it shows that I'm willing to sneak through enemy lines, making my opponent more cautious in more areas of the map.

I don't know what kind of threat would be one he could not ignore. I think he can ignore just about anything I could do at this point. He knows his reinforcements are coming and his highest priority should be to preserve his carriers, or at least not to lose them without taking some Japanese carriers out.
