I suggested this on the WitE board back a while ago, create a web site where it could be a "living manual", like wikapedia, where it could get updated, linked to and perhaps viewable and downloadable by chapter and section or in all. I think it will be constantly getting updated, it will be "old" the second after you print it.

This please.

its actually not that easy to set up or maintain. While I guess you are both fully aware of this, its not simply a case of copying the text onto a web browser software.

So as ever the enduring questions - who sets it up and gets it approved as 'official' (as opposed to a voluntary effort), who maintains it, who ensures it remains current when unofficial enthusiasm wanes?

The WiTW model works well. The release manual is still perfectly useable, the Living Manual gives you very quick access to the current rules. So really it depends on what you are looking for at a particular moment.

I think WiTE1 is misleading for a variety of reasons. First, the initial documentation is a child of its time. Second the sheer scale of the changes even up to the .6.xx patches and then the self-chosen redesigns since 07.xx (when 2by3 stopped doing the updates).

Its quite feasible that WiTE2 will follow a post-release development path closer to WiTW, if so the release manual/living manual combination will work pretty well.

loki100 yes you are absolutely correct. It would take effort and time to make something like this work but there are ways to do it. Perhaps Matrix and/or 2by3 might host it, allowing users to edit/maintain it, allow vendors to publish ads on the pages in order to pay for itself, some hosting entities might WANT traffic on this site, just thinking out loud here. But just updating the manual and releasing versions is also a good way to go.

Personally, I'd be fine receiving the hardcover manual at an unknown time in the future and reading the PDF in the meantime, but I understand Matrix has their process.

That's actually how it will work - you'll get the download immediately at the date of release, then the physical will ship when it's in stock.

Can you give us a choice if the shipping is too expensive, that we can relinquish of the printed manual and only get the digital version? ^^

I would assume the shipping and payment would be done when you pre-order?

AFAIK, shipping costs are included and calculated in purchase. Otherwise would not make any sense.

Hi guys,

A quick update for you all. We just finalized the last details with the printer and we're working on the final store setup for pre-orders with those details in mind. There are still some last checks to do once everything is setup on the store side, but we will have pre-orders live next week, hopefully earlier rather than later in the week. Looks like we'll be able to start shipping out physical copies within about two weeks of release, at least for the first orders - if demand exceeds what we can air ship to the warehouse, then the later orders may have to wait a bit longer while the rest of the print run arrives by sea. All the final details should be available in the announcements and store page next week when pre-orders go live.

Regards,

- Erik

I don't think Matrix has a Steam release date yet. It will be released through Matrix first, and then sometime in the future will be released on Steam. Matrix customers receive Steam keys when the game comes out on Steam.

The weather forecast is perfect for an early spring offensive Erik, if you can keep that in mind!
