I was curious as to what would happen if the Axis will not issue one single declaration of war, ever. By extension, this ought to also prevent the US from ever entering the war.

As the Nazis, I did not attack Belgium, the Netherlands or Norway and entered Denmark without attack through the event. I systematically overwhelmed France, not creating Vichy, but taking North Africa as well, with Italian infantry and Fallschirmjagers. I did not push into Egypt to avoid alarming the US.

As the Japanese, I was pushing back China and doing hardly anything else, except to sway over Dutch East Indies to my cause.

After that, it was pretty uneventful, until in early 1942 the Soviets attacked me. The first wave was pretty easily repelled, but I too great care not to push them back too far. I settled for a line of defense in Eatsern Prussia and at the Dnejpr. There I have been constantly beating back increasingly ferocious Soviet attacks.

As the Japanese, I decided not to conquer all of China, but most of it. Funnily, at some point in 1943, the Australians decided to attack in Timor, but without the rest of the Allies or even the Commonwealth joining in. I ignored that.

On the 6th of June, 1944, the Allies did land in France - but without US help this made hardly news.

Now 1945 comes around and the US is still at about 20% belligerence. I wonder how long this can go on.

I don't think this would work against a live Allied opponent, but interesting play. How is Japanese morale under the embargo?

Isn't there a script which causes the US to go up X diplomacy points per turn at some point?

Thats what I thought. 20% in '45? Must be using diplomacy heavy. Why play?

Absolutely. Axis diplomacy is blitzing the State Department so hard, that everyone there is driving a Mercedes by now :)

After a long break from the game, I remembered this one and decided to go on a bit.

Now it is the summer of 1946 - and Japan ran out of enemies.

During 1945 the Soviets sacrified wave upon wave on the German defenses along the Köningsberg- Kiev line - and the Chinese before Guazhou. In the winter of 45/46, the Soviets and Chinese ran out of forces - and the Axis slowly turned offensive again. A quick strike against Urumchi,, backed by the whole Japanese airforce, lead to a Chinese surrender. The Nazis had it harder - even took some losses - but gained Minsk-Kursk.Rostov and Grozny until the fall of 1946. Meanwhile, the British homefleet has been completely sunk, the British Isles completely besieged by the Kriegsmarine.

Believing the steady Axis lies about non-agression, the US turned ever more isolationist - the are at 2% belligerence and couldn´t care less about the British cousins, let alone the fate of the Russians or Chinese.

Novel idea. Thanks for the report.

However, presumably an attack through the Maginot Line takes more time than thru Benelux, giving a human player far longer use of the French fleet & British carriers to destroy the Italian fleet, raising the question of how does the Axis transport and supply the Afrika Korps and Italian army to even hold Libya, let alone attack French North Africa?

What did you do to defend the Italian East Africa colonies?

Game ends summer of 1947, so it looks like it will be a major Axis victory. As for France, focusing all your bombers on Strasburg, you can eliminate the defender on the first try with some additional ground attack. Depends on the French defense and if they're expecting this gambit. If not, the line behind may be a little thin, as most Allied players shift the armies to guard the Belgian frontier. So 3 airborne and some panzer attacks and its possible to get beyond the Maginot the first turn. Instant French morale drop and half the French army and the BEF are out of position.

Its feasible, but like someone else said, probably not going to work against a live player. Though it would be interesting to see the Allied players reaction to all this happening, or I should say, not happening.

Presumably the AI did not attack the Italian fleet at all?

What did Italy do in the game? Did they still declare war as normal when France was falling?

If the Axis had not let themselves be sucker-punched into declaring war on the United States by FDR, things might have turned out much differently. Arguably, this would have been the best strategy in real life and I am impressed that the game models it so well even though the developers probably never expected it to be pursued.
