Italy's moment of glory - the capture of Sudan - was denied them. An Egyptian or Sudanese garrison turned up in what I think could be safely termed, the nick of time...

In the Soviet Union, once again, only in the south is there any progress at all. The hold on Stalingrad is tightened and Grozny comes under increasing pressure.

A load of partisans arrive in China and the USSR. I just don't have enough units to counter.

A pretty painful turn for the Axis..... The only vaguely bit of decent news is that the Germans continue to slowly work their way up to Volga.

I think its the end in China. The Japanese are simply too stretched now. I will have to start pulling back.

The Axis forces in the USSR simply grow weaker. It will soon be time to head west...

Malaya surrenders - but there is still one enemy unit that sticks around...

The Japanese destroy a Chinese corps north of Wu Gorge and decide now is the time to start withdrawing.

Malaya is cleared of the remaining enemy unit and, the Japanese beat the British to Bangkok - just.

German forces continue following the Volga northwards toward Saratov, but there are fortifications to be overcome first... and not to mention General Winter.

To the south, Grozny falls, and to the northwest, so does Voronezh.

As expected, things generally take a turn for the worse for Japan. Their forces are just too stretched.

The optimistically named 'army group' led by Mutagashi heads toward Burma, but it will need reinforcing if it is to make any progress.

Unbelievable. The weather clears to allow the Soviets to fly and take Harbin.... and then the weather grounds the Japanese. I don't have the firepower to take back the capital so I need to withdraw.

In China the pull back begins in earnest.

The Germans and their allies can only make progress in the east, between Saratov and Astrakhan. The offensive in the Caucasus has ground to a halt.

A major battle develops in the Arctic with the u-boats coming off worse. However, they've taken a USN destroyer with them.

The Japanese don't want to give up Southeast Asia without a fight.

They try and cut off supply in Burma. An SNLF unit is ordered to Arakan to do this. Meanwhile to the northwest in Hanoi, the British forces take a bit of a beating.

I don't know what sort of tech the RN have but the battle in the Artic is over. The u-boats have been all but wiped out and I am not really sure how. Essentially an enemy destroyer finds a u-boat and its then destroyed by a CV. No diving - just destroyed....

In addition the Soviets have decided its time to fight back. After all these games I just have no idea how to play the game. In the mirror game I didn't attack the Germans because I am looking at 3-0 or 4-0 results. Yet a tank and a mech unit have ripped through a German army.... more reading of the rules required I think.

I decide to hold my ground and see what happens....

The Japanese agonisingly fail to destroy a British corps which retreats with 1 point left. In Burma, the infantry in Moulmein is reduced to a 2.

I think the high point of the German advance has been reached. The Germans are checked at Saratov and have to withdraw and I can't destroy the mech and tank unit further to the northwest.

I won't bother posting turn numbers anymore as something clearly has gone wrong there!

It's all going Peter Tong for the Axis....

I start with Thailand/Burma where, at least there was some good happening.

The British Tank unit that was seeking to outflank Mutagushi's forces in Bangkok, came a cropper. Sadly however, there was not much progress against Moulmein.

Once again my aircraft are grounded in the Soviet Union......

My forces manage to exhaust themselves trying to get to the approaches to Saratov. Aircraft can fly further south so I pull back my forces and concentrate on securing Astrakhan - which is just achieved.

Disaster all around for the Axis. I should have done what AllenK did in the other game and ceded ground in good order. Instead I've sought to hold on long after there was any chance of progress forward.... and have now paid the price....

In Manchuria, the Soviets have reinforced more than I thought they would be able to based on the other game. This was - it turns out - a dumb assumption.

Homma's forces have been overwhelmed and the whole pack of cards threatens to cave in. I manage to surround the mechanised unit that has taken Hisnking (and destroyed a bomber in the process), but the forces doing the surrounding are themselves in danger.

What a mess....

The forces in China are growing ever thinner - but I haven't given up the ground that allows this thinning out process...

I can't bring myself to withdraw - I feel like a certain Austrian twat that couldn't agree to order his troops to withdraw in good time and in good order. I hurt the Chinese a little this turn, but with every passing turn so the risk of disaster - as happened in Manchuria - grows....

My main forces are in the centre between Sian and Ichang. But my flanks are about to get hit.....particularly in the far north (out of picture) where the Communists are bearing down on my single army....
