Sirs, where is my 2nd round opponent for the SC WW1 tournament? Please understand that the delay in me getting started on round one was your companies fault for giving me an improper login to the PBEM system. It took the Help Desk along with Matrix and Slitherine administrators 4 weeks to straighten this out enough so that I could play. It is still messed up though because I have two usernames. One is AdmiralYamoto which gets me access to the forums and the other is AdmiralYamamoto to which the tournament directors finally transferred me so that I could at least play a couple of weeks.

I see that one player has a round 2 bye that I would be happy to meet. Now that I can play under AdmiralYamamoto I can guarantee that this round will play to the conclusion (if my opponent takes his turns). Please see what you can do for me. Thanks.

Hi AdmiralYamamoto,

Unfortunately on our end we have little control over the server and especiallyhow the tournament pairings are set as I believe it is all automated.

Your best bet here would be to contact Matrix support to see if they can help sort it out for you, hopefully they can.

Hubert

What happens if my opponent hasn't even made his first turn yet? are points still split evenly?

You should end up then with the BYE points of 75 in this case for this game.

If I just wanted to join this tournament for Round #3 is that possible? If so, is there an estimate of when it will start?

Unfortunately joining a tournament after it has started is not possible. There should be another one after this one concludes, just not sure when it will start to be honest, but it will be announced similar to the last one once the sign up page is opened up.

Hello Hubert,

My opponent has yet to put in a single turn, yet on the tournament page, it indicates that we both have 0 points. Could you rectify this? I believe I should be getting the BYE score for both games.

Same case with me too. My opponent hasn't put a single turn in as CP and played just 1 turn as Entente.

Hi ThisEndUp,

Sorry to hear this and if you've put in your first turn for the one game it should show an equivalent of the BYE score of 75. If this is not the case please confirm and I'll ask to have the tournament and server controllers look into it for us here.

Hubert

Sorry to hear about this as well and I see that you have the 75 points for the one game showing, and you should also receive the BYE score on the other game as well once the round ends.

Hello Hubert,

It is indeed showing a score of 0 for both players. I have put in my first turn for the CP, but he has yet to put in a single one in either game.

Ok, thanks for the update and I'll see if the score can be manually adjusted in your case. I don't have control over this part of the server, so I can only ask the powers that be in this case.

Hi ThisEndUp,

Apologies for the continued issue here on this one.

I have asked and waiting to hear back, it might be worth emailing support as well to help get the ball rolling.

Just to follow up, I've been told this should be sorted out for you once the round ends. It will be manually double checked etc.

... and another problem is, that my opponent Frenetico played his last turn one minute before the end of this round ... so for all he was close to defeat in both battles and did not played so frequently he has more points then I have ... something is wrong boys

Same here, once the opponent is on the downside he does not do any turns frequently.
There should be a surrender option and a time out for too less turns or time in between turns in a certain time period.
Happend in all but one turnament games (here and WaW).

I have a similar complaint. My opponent stopped playing in both games more than two weeks ago. I understand that sometimes it's a real life interrupting and that's OK, it's just a game. However I had an opened road to Paris and Berlin so I believe I would decisively win in both cases . Instead I have a stalemate result in one of them. I didn't bother to check another as in both the points got split 75 for me, 50 for him. It doesn't seem to reflect the situation (his lines broken through and his hiatus in playing). Could this be fixed ? (maybe in the next tournament if not now)

Also I had a situation in the first round, already described in this thread by someone else: I got annihilated as Germans and I lost literally all the units and hexes. I still got 20 points for this though. It seemed not fair for my opponent (congratulations shri ! ).

I admit, i was somewhat pissed at that 80:20 split back then; but seeing all these "gamey devious folk" purposely not playing turns when they lose, i must congratulate your sense of fair play that you continued to play right till the last detachment and last division.

I agree with the proposals above that there should be a resignation button or some mechanism to check for hopeless situations, maybe loss of several NM towns or difference in number of units by more than 50%.

Thank you, shri

It was a very pleasant game. Being a losing side also presents a greater challenge and offers more satisfaction if I somehow manage to pull this off. Conducting successful retreat from Belgium and establishing a firm line of defense somewhere in Germany would be a reward in itself. Unfortunately you were too skilled for this to work :) Nevertheless it was fun to try.

It brings some really fun playing moments to my memory.

I remember when I had to take fortified artillery positions in Close Combat. I crawled all my paratroopers through tripwire and minefields, literally through enemy killbox. The opponent didn't realize it untill I was meters away from the first bunker. Seeing his people rushed from another part of the map where he expected me was priceless. If I had just wanted points I would take less risky approach.

Also there was a great game in Gary Grigsby's War in the East when I retreated 6th Army from Stalingrad fighting all the way. All the time attacks and counterattacks from both sides, all over the map, once Soviets, another time Germans gaining the upper hand. Fantastic.

I think when I'm fighting in disadvantage I have more occasions for creative solutions and more such moments as above mentioned may emerge :)

Hey everyone, very sorry to hear that some players were gaming the system here. We'll have a good think on how to prevent this in the future.

For the one game with an 80:20 split, this just sounds like the full DECISIVE victory conditions were not met as the points are set by the VICTORY CONDITIONS once the campaign has been played along far enough.

Players that play too slowly should be penalized with a reduced score for timing out, you'll see this in the scores with I believe a small T shown along side.

For resignations, this is potentially a bit problematic which is why they are not allowed by the tournament server.

For example:
1) If you resign, do you possibly deny your opponent a haul of points which would otherwise have been theirs?
2) Alternatively, if you resign and are heavily penalized for doing so, is it fair that the ‘winner’ gets a large haul of points worth more than a hard fought victory would have brought?

You either deny points to your opponent which isn't fair, or if you heavily penalize, then there is no longer any incentive to resign. This is why with mirrored games, both players are encouraged to play to the end as how you win and how you lose should reflect in the score.

But with players gaming the system this potentially introduces a new layered issue to all of the above which we'll address for the next time around.

Hubert,
Regarding mine and Neido's game, he literally had 2 detachments left alive and he had lost all the NM sites, at the far end of the map there is one town that was left i guess otherwise all towns were out.
My supply in Germany had totally crashed, but he had nothing to kill my cavalry and infantry marching in freely.

Hi Shri,

Can you confirm which campaign this was for, which side was winning and which side was losing as I want to be sure. I just ask as it could be an issue then with the VICTORY CONDITIONS for the campaign.

Thanks,
Hubert

I can confirm that Shri devastated my German forces in the 1st round, March to Paris. I don't even remember those 2 detachments. If I remember correctly at some moment I only logged in to click "End turn".

I'm curious about timeout thing. I saw it was indicated on the scoreboard in several places. However in my both games in the 2nd round my opponent stopped playing on 12th May and he didn't get the timeout penalty. Why? How does it work?

This is from the first round, March on Paris.
The game i refer to the Entente was winning undisputably (me as entente) and the Germans were down to like 1 town on the far end of the map and maybe 1 or at most 2 detachments (0 divisions, HQs, cavalry).
Neido has also confirmed my version here.

Oh, BTW KOLN fell like 3-4 turns before it ended, the last great battle. after that i was just pushing cavalry to capture empty towns.
