I just loaded up WITE2 and I am in awe of the amount of detail. I know many years went into this game and while I was only a very small part of it early on, I'm glad this has been released.

Looking forward to another ten years of gameplay, just like I enjoyed with WITE1.

Thanks devs.

I guess I have to finish Road to Leningrad out of old time's sake for my first scenario.

+1. I am astonished and delighted. It's an incredible work, a real work of art. The GUI changes alone are really significant. Thanks to the devs! Great, great work!

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on RtL 2.0, as I can't beat it at all. I think it's the terrain & PP mechanics combined. (Or I'm still crap).

You're not crap! It should be really hard to win . Any game that lets you take Leningrad without a major effort and several retrys is almost certainly unrealistic.

To be sure, but its a tutorial. A tutorial that kicks your arse every damn time?

I think its the 16 turn limit. If they let you have the mud+smow turns at least. That would also allow players to learn the weather system a bit better too as otherwise its not a factor in any of the tutorials that I can see, and weather is now a MAJOR factor in the campaign. Even more so than the binary implementation in WitE 1.0 I would say as its far more nuanced.

RTL itself is not a tutorial, just one of the small scenarios. I used this one as a pretty regular test-bed and I agree that it's not easy. It's balanced towards a Draw (the historical result). It's possible to beat it as the Axis, but you really need to do everything right from start to finish so in that sense it's a good training scenario but don't expect to win until you've mastered all the aspects of the game. In the campaign, of course, either side can always shift more forces to the north whereas RTL works within the historical forces and transfers.

Extending the scenario wouldn't help you as significant resources started being diverted from Army Group North to support Operation Typhoon.

I actually was getting a little bummed about the RtL scenario, because I have lost multiple times to the Soviet AI -on Normal no less. The Soviets are able to form a coherent defense on turn 2, west of Pskov and it can be very punishing trying to penetrate that line.

Game is very well done. I was able to jump and and play which is the sign of a very well designed and thought out design. There is a lot going on under the hood however and watching YouTube videos its obvious there is a lot of nifty little tricks and tweaks you can do-especially with the air units.

The air system looks like a improved version used in WitW. Is there any plans to update WitW with new features.

Any plans for updated WitP?

After one week playing it I am sure this is the best game I have ever played and there will be thousands of hour to play in the future.

My thanks to everyone who helped creating this game and also to the friendly forum community which is very helpful.

I concur. What a beautiful game and a testament to the dedication of Gary, Joel, and the rest of the team.

I was too until I discovered an alternative strategy. I used 18A straight to Riga and let 4th Pz and 16A to the east. I used to take the whole of 18A army north and clean out the peninsula to the west while also heading north/east, but always got stuck crossing the river up north and to the east. What I changed was putting part of 18A across the river crossing just north of Pskov and using another part to press north, using my security corps to conquer the peninsula. I then had the one 18A corps north of Pskov link up with 16A while 4th Pz swung east and encircled a huge mass of Soviet divisions. Sieged Leningrad and it was all over by turn 14 just as part of 4th Pz was withdrawing.

Interesting approach, Actrade.

Could you perhaps elucidate, either here or in a new thread (or PM me)?

I'm new to WitX games and have played this through a few times after the introductory scenarios and haven't managed better than a soviet minor victory (on easy).

Tried driving the 4th Panzer Army to Pskov and then swinging east to VL, allowing 16th Army to catch up and secure the line Pskov-VL before taking the 4th Panzer Army and 18th Army north-west of Pskov through the east of Estonia and across the Narva river to Leningrad, but at best I've managed to get a couple of corps to the gates of Leningrad only to be thwarted by the strong defence there.

Driving directly north from Pskov doesn't seem viable due to the terrain and the Soviet defence.

16 turns seems tight, but by then the mech. army is exhausted anyway so no use to man nor beast.
