Preparing for the offensive with 1st PA gathering near Dnepropetrovsk for the thrust to the Sea of Azov. Just waiting on good weather for the kick off.

T43 Supply Net North:

With the entire front in deep mud there are no Soviet attacks. The supply net seems to be able to handle the bad weather.

The Crimea is just under normal rain - not the heavy rain that the rest of the front is suffering. The heavy mud is still there though.

Ducks are swimming through the air but the LW wisely stays on the ground.

T43 Freight:

I am pleasantly surprised to see that the supply situation sits at +6K despite the weather.

Not much movement or adjusting here as the 3rd PA continues to move north. I probably should be railing them in but was afraid of the rail usage. Next turn I will probably rail them in.

Very little movement in the front. I am experimenting with some depot settings. This turn I have Warsaw at priority 1 with 43K freight. Minsk is priority 1 with 25K freight. Smolensk is priority 4 with 9893 freight. So the theory is that Smolensk should be pulling from Minsk and Warsaw this coming turn,

Very little movement here too. I am hoping to keep the foothold over the Kersch Straits this time and maybe be able to expand it in future turns with better weather. If nothing else it should tie up some Soviet forces.

Heavy rain and heavy mud just about everywhere again. The 3rd PA is the only formation really needing supply trips.

Not really sure why the Soviets pulled back from the Kersch invasion force but that is where my supplies are the worse.

The LW continues to stay on the ground in the rain and mud.

The surplus is now +7K. Things are looking good just waiting on the weather to look good too.

The front is what it is. Warsaw is down to 23K freight so I will increase the priority to 2. Minsk is down to 511 freight so I will increase the priority to 4. Smolensk is up to 15K freight so I will lower it to 2. Vyazma has 5K freight at priority 4. This is just about the front line so I will leave it at 4.

The only movement is the advance of my Kersch invasion to capture Novorossiysk for the level 3 port there. This is just taking what the Soviet AI has been giving me.

What's the reasoning behind increasing the priority of the depots farther from the main depot closest to the front line?

I am increasing the priority in Warsaw to 4 when Warsaw had only 1K freight. The next turn it had 45K freight so I decrease the priority to 1. The next turn Warsaw is down to 5K freight. What I did was grab a lot of freight in Warsaw - probably from the National Supply Source in Berlin - then push it eastwards so the depots to the east did not have to go to Berlin to get the freight. Less distance = more freight moved. I am experimenting on how to get large amounts of freight from Berlin to the front lines without over stressing my rail lines or my trucks. I THINK its working like I planned but I am still not sure.

The full idea is to be able to have large railyard depots 'pulse' the freight in large chunks down the line. The trick is how far apart these railyards are and how effective it may be. This is something that is not as important in 41 but could become vital in 42 when you are trying to supply the offensive in the Caucasus as the Axis or when the Soviets start their offensive drives into Rumania, Poland, Germany, and Hungary.

The idea is still in the baby stages but I figured I would include the stats as I play around with it some more in a true game situation.

yep, been testing this and it works well, you basically overstock a given depot, then trigger the freight to move closer to the front. Since this is a lower SMP cost than direct from the NSS, you can get more into the front line depots

Good supply and only the Leningrad area is still under the rain clouds but heavy mud everywhere. This will give me a turn or two with 3rd PA moving into position.

I assign AGC's AOGs to LW Kdo East. I then run RECON directives for AGC and AGS. I keep the AGN LW on the ground in the rain.

T45 Production:

I look at this screen to see that the Supplies in Units, Ammo in Units, and Fuel in Units are all over optimal (in the parenthesis). The Vehicles in Units is pretty close at only -13K. That is great compared to recent turns. I am happy to see that the repair pool is down to 94K.

T45 AGC:

A few attacks by the 2nd and 4th Armies gain a hex or two. Warsaw is at priority 2 and has 5K freight so I increase it to 4. Minsk is priority 4 with 8K so I make it a 1. Smolensk is priority 2 with no freight so I make it a 4. The final link in the chain is Vyazma steady at priority 4 with 1.8K. It does look as though there are 'pulses' of freight going down the line but whether or not it is helping a lot I am not sure.

My offensive to cut off the Soviets between the Dnepr River and Sea of Azov is started. While I do not complete the pocket there are eight Soviet divisions in trouble near Dnepropetrovsk. I now wish I had a full Panzer Army in the Kerch area although I have no idea how I would supply them.
