This is NOT a gripe post. Back when the game arrived, I as an ASL veteran was overjoyed by this design. Lots of chatter happened, then the game arrived. My only beef, the UI. Dreadful. Then I got distracted by life. It happens. I returned to the game the other day, to learn it has been kinda left out in the cold. The reason, ill-health. There's no rule saying a game's creator(s) will never experience life's downsides or hardships. SSG also made great games. And they too are still good games. Even if nothing has been happening with them. So It's not like TotH is a dead game. And it might not be perfect, but ASL isn't perfect either. I watched this vid, (it's not new) on YouTube, and it got me back up to speed and engaged. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ksr9iWiFxlA&t=1s Watch it if you are new, or if like me, you went dormant for some time. So many wargames, so many interfaces. It's ok if you forgot how to run the design. TotH, in spite of my bellyaching about the UI, is STILL one of the more interesting squad-level games for the ASL fanatic. Will it be unseated by the upcoming effort called Second Front? Who knows. Second Front has multi-story buildings. But while it plays 'like' Squad Leader, it doesn't 'look' literally like Squad Leader. Sometimes that matters to the gamer. The other title Valor and Victory is also not a betrayal. it looks like it will be a good design. It won't have multi-story buildings either. Basic Squad Leader didn't have those by the way. Squad Battles is a nice effort. But it wasn't trying to be Squad Leader, it's just squad level. And it has the usual Tiller interface. And they ain't known for being intuitive either. Granted, once you master one release, you know them all. I fully plan to play this game. Regardless if it has been stranded in limbo feeling forgotten. Steel Panthers comes from the 90s. No one is interested in letting it die either. Wild Bill has passed away. Life happens to all of us. The SPWaW Mega Campaigns are still awesome. They are nearly 20 years ago. So this game is still ok. It will still take you a lot of time and playing to get bored of it from a standing stop. And I still play The Guards Counter Attack from Squad Leader from the early 80s. Wargames don't get ditched just because you played it once. There is no "I beat this game in XX hours" in wargaming.
