The terrain artwork files have 6 'slots' with different versions of the tile. Can anybody explain how they work?

The clear tiles appear to correspond to the ground weather (Clear, Light Mud, Heavy Mud, Light Snow, Snow, Heavy snow) but the woods and forest tiles do not - as far as I can figure out, 1 is Clear, 2 is used for Light Mud and Mud, and 5 is all kinds of snow. The 3rd, 4th and 6th seem to be unused?

Thanks for any advice, especially to somebody who is clearly planning to meddle with your hard work

Woods and Forest change art by season so you have different files for spring, summer, Autumn and winter.
