Question: I have a relatively new laptop, but on large land combats the replay takes a very, very long time. I just had a bombardment at Chungking with 14 Artillery units take 15+ minutes, and this is going to happen every turn until the city falls. This only happens with very large bombardments, or land combat involving over 15 units or so. Of course I hit "Done" or "Esc" multiple times, but it still takes forever.

Is this normal?

Anything I can do about it?

I assume you have put in all the normal switches? One thing I had happen when I put AE on a new laptop was it crawled, scrolling - everything. When I turned off the range circles everything got back to normal speed. But I haven't ever heard of a 15 min battle replay (not to say it hasn't happened before - I haven't read every AE post). But if it just land combat that is crawling - that seems odd. Hopefully someone else can help you out.

I’ve had a few very large battles take longer than normal, like at Chungking.
Clicking the “done” button didn’t speed it up like the smaller battles in the same turn.
I assume it’s just all the numbers being crunched in the background.

Interesting. When I hit 'done' the battle ends shortly and the results are posted.

Going to state the obvious but has the bombardment delay been turned up?

It could have something to do with counter-bombardment from hundreds of Chinese units ...

Just set the Land vs Land message time to 0 or 0.1 and get to the CR screen. IMO that gives enough info without watching the unit AV changes.

Land and Bombardment Delays are set to 0.0. Last resolution of Chungking took 24 minutes.

Any other suggestions? I may just march out and surrender to avoid this!

How many defending units are there?
Once you capture the place you’ll be right!

Hit the esc key when the bombardment starts, then just alt tab out of the game and back in and you will see the result.

Had these engagements with over 200 units involved and it would have taken forever.

Forgot about that, but I’ve done what CT said too.
Tabbed out to paste a screenshot and when I tabbed back in the replay was finished.

I'll try this, thanks! Life is too short to wait for 50 bombardments in Chungking....

This happens all the time to me, too. A large land battle can take 30 minutes. I have tried all the suggestions posted here, no dice!

I have learnt to live with it. Makes a cup of coffee, a sandwich or take a stroll to the shop. Mouse reaction is very sluggish, too. Same thing there.

I have come think there are some inter-connection problems with the original graphics card and an independent one I had installed when I bought the computer. Suppose I should have taken it to a specialist long time ago. Six years with it now...

To end a very long combat where virtually the entire Japanese army was attacking the entire Chinese Army in Chungking I would hit Alt-Tab to switch to email and after 30 secs or so hit Alt-Tab again to switch back to the combat resolution and almost immediately the combat would end. Worked pretty good - that particular combat took forever it seemed so I discovered this method by accident.

I've found on very long ground combat resolutions, if I <ALT> tab out of the program and go back in, it's instantly over.
