The only reasons that I can think of is that you want to give your support (have done that for some smaller titles but not necessary here). Because you want more games you will never play (at £60 - no I definitely don't want that!). Because you want more Eastern Front games (nope). Because you want more games with all the details included (yes - so long as it has the right mix of fun and playable). Because you want more games with limited naval warfare (not really too much of an issue with the Eastern Front).

warspite1

Thanks for the replies. I never could get into WITP-AE. Clearly a great game (given its dedicated following). It should have been perfect due to its naval theme. But I just could not get past the number of things I had to do, buttons I had to press and clicks I needed to make, just to put some aircraft on a carrier.

So next question.

Does this game require the player (or recommend a player) to use a spreadsheet?

If you are an accountant you might like it.

For the most part it's very well done. There are only two things that put me off. Combat as movement in a ugoigo game is total BS. One week turns denies response time for the Soviet player. If it were North Africa one week turns would be fine. But it's not.

But then variety is the spice of life. Some like Haggis. So don't.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm Haggis

Thank you for your continued responses.

A couple more questions.

Firstly, I like the idea that much can be automated. If I was to start a campaign game with essentially just moving the land units - can I change my preferences and take back control of the air and logistics mid-game?

Thank-you

yes, in a vs AI game you can change as you wish - you can also reset the relative advantages you give the AI etc

You don't have to be an accountant....... I'm not, and I play it. One week turns are fine also. as for "response time", you in your turn can set units to reserve. The will respond to attacks.

Keep in mind that if you don't want to get into running the airforce or depot building, the AI can do it for you.

I am not all that fond of the concept of "combat as movement". So that is my main reason for abstaining at the moment. The second reason is that I need a new computer to get the game to actually run.

Good gosh, what kind of rig are you running, Orm?

I caved in and figure I'll get to it (maybe) before I pass on!

Last question - and a pretty important one.

I never know how to check the requirements of a game with what my computer can do.

Anyone know how I check my computer specs please?

Thank-you.

You can also open the task manager and click on the "performance" tab to look at the CPU and the memory.

You can also open the control panel, click on "system and security" then click on "About" which will give you the total system memory and some graphics information. You can also get there by pressing the "Windows" key + "X" then selecting system.

Then there is this video to watch, it is not very long.

But then again, while variety is the spice of life, married people should not be caught sampling. Especially when the wife has access to the golf clubs. Is that not correct, Mr. Tiger Woods?

Rarely. You don't ask, you don't learn. At least in my Imperial Opinion. Or, as Bismarck said “Fools learn from experience. I prefer to learn from the experience of others.”

Don't worry about it being over your head. We can help you.

So you don't appear to believe in an education where you can learn by reading and observing others.

Just remember what Jorge Santayana said about that.
