OK, I've read every word in the manual concerning production and I still can't figure out whether the production stat includes or excludes the effects of trade from the previous turn.

How do I track/reconcile the production stat, trade stat, and stockpile. (Upkeep seems clear enough if it's really only repair and upgrade)?

This must be self evident to playtesters and expert players but it leaves us noobs in the dark...

It includes the previous turn's trade, however much gets through after being raided.

Production is based upon cities and resources, modified by strategic resources and a country's production level. Stockpiles accrue from unused production, etc.

This must be self evident to playtesters and expert players but it leaves us noobs in the dark...

I'm sure others will chime in if any of the above is incorrect or inexact.

So nowhere is the raw production for a country shown; you would have to calculate it working backwards to include the effects of trade and raiding... correct? Easy example, the USA trades much production away, so I would need to go the trade screen and add those trades back into the production number.

This is something I hope Alvaro will consider when starting to code WP2: kind of a ledger with a lot of updating information.

In my last game turn as Allies, the USA sent Australia 75 production. The next turn Aus. shows 9 production.

Soooooo confused...

You are most likely already aware if you have enough or not, but just double check to see if you have enough merchant marines for the trade.

Earlier I was trading a bunch of production and oil to Australia, but realized Australia was not getting all of the oil I was sending. It turned out I didn't have enough merchant marines.

Even though the game allows you to input a ''max amount'' of supply or oil production for a trade ( which is 25% of whatever is currently in your stockpile ), this input doesn't seem to take into account the amount of merchant marines one has.

I simply lowered the amount of production I was sending ( freeing up some merchants for oil transportation ), and the oil started pouring in.

Might not be solution to your problem, but I do hope you find a fix in that case.

Edit: And just to put some emphasis on the previously mentioned point; it appears the trade goes off of your stockpile. 25% of your stockpile for production and oil respectively. So if your stockpile is empty and not filling up next turn, maybe this is having some effect? I too am trying to get a real solid grasp of things. I'm probably just a dummy though lol

production X economic multiple = total production

shipping production needs 1 for 1 to transport to another nation.
This is limited by a percentage for production and oil. In other words you can't ship more than X PP or Y oil.
If the transport is over convoy it is limited to how many available merchant marine you have.
Only resources that can trace a rail back to the capital require no MMs.

Strategic resources add 1% to everything.

I'm out with my wife so I don't have the super details. But it is a proven system from WPE.

As the USA you need to ship resources to minors and possibly the UK depending on what you want to do.
As the Japanese you better be sure you buy MMs and escorts/planes to protect your lanes.

You nailed it!

It did turn out to be a merchant marine problem. I remember getting a, one time, not enough shipping warning, but I also got a message to the effect the UK was picking up the slack so I didn't check thoroughly enough.
