AGN Turn 44

All quiet here no attacks by the AI at all so I redeploy units trying to get them back together in cohesion.

During the winter months I had Divisions all over the place trying to plug holes, so now while the weather is bad I can get units back side by side.

AGC Turn 44

Again here no attacks by the Russians they have started a build up of troops in front of Moscow, Stalin obviously knows the Ostheer are readying for a summer offensive against the Capital.

A check of what Army Group Centre is facing in terms of Fronts is quiet interesting, Western Front is guarding the Southern section of the line opposite 3rd Pz and part of 9th Armee, while in the North The kalinin Front is apposing 9th Armee.

It appears STAVKA HQ has withdrawn from Moscow and is further South near Novy Oskol ringed by Reserve Army HQ's.

Seems the Russians feel the threat to Kharkov and Kursk more a priority.

Quiet here to in The Ukraine, 2nd Hungarian Army is on the move with half the units arriving in The Crimea however we have a rolling stock shortage so the rest of the Hungarian units are spread out throughout The Ukraine sitting in train carriages.

Good news in the Taman Peninsula with the Port of Novorossiysk captured with out a fight.

light all round as the only attacking I did was really to try and clear more of the trapped troops.

Looking at the coming weeks reinforcement schedule gives me cause for concern as five Divs will be sent to the west including three Pz Divs.

This is just the thing I didn't want or need with my build up for a summer offensive.

Very good figures which continue to climb.

In other news Hermann Hoth is killed in action and Ernst Hell takes command of 3rd Pz Armee.

A quick look at this officers bio tells me Hell is a infantry General, what in Gods name is going on here' more interference by OKW.

This situation will have to be remedied as soon as possible as I need a Pz General here.

AGN Turn 45

The 1942 offensive has begun, 26th April.

Unexpected good weather in the last week of April made me decide to take a risk and it has paid dividends.

The Volkhov line has been breached throwing the Russian forces back in disarray, a assault on Pavlovo was successful.

16th Armee gains ground further south, we have almost rested control of the Valdai hills from the Red Army.

The Moscow / Leningrad rail line is now cut in several places, not that it would make much difference now as the city is cut off anyway.

The long awaited Moscow drive begins, with well resupplied and rested troops 9th and 3rd Pz Armee's push through in several sectors.

A breakthrough is achieved north of the Russian capital and Kalinin is surprisingly captured, this is great news and a morale lifter for the Ostheer.

Further South 4th and 2nd Pz Armee's punch through the Russian defenders near Kursk trapping six Soviet Divs.

Voronezh is now under threat as well.

With the positive situation in the Centre and North, Von Rundstedt also orders a Front wide offensive.

6th Armee begins attacks to regain lost ground including a drive to recapture Poltava, on the Black Sea coast parts of 17th Armee, 3rd and 4th Rom Armies and 1st Pz attack towards Stalino and retake Mariupol.

Attacks are launch against enemy troops centred around Kharkov.

The Red Army gets hit hard and is pushed back in a number of places.

On the ground reports from Army, Korps and Divisional Commanders say that confidence is high among the troops.

Intel Report

As the Armee's prepare for the next phase of 1942 offensive, Intelligence Reports come in that The Russian High Command has released more troops from its Reserve Army.

No specific details yet where these new troops are to be sent but its believed to number around 150,000 men in all.

Vice-Admiral Wilhelm Canaris head of the Abwehr is endeavouring to find out more details of where these troops will be sent as this is critical for the ostheer to know.

More attacks along The Volkhov line as all three Armee's push back the Volkhov Front and the Moscow Defence Zone Font.

The defenders are being steadily pushed back to the Mista and Syas Rivers.

AGC Turn 46

The Battle for Moscow begins in earnest, 3rd Pz begins its envelopment movement on the enemy Capital, encircles both Kaluga and Tula as 9th Armee covers its Northern Flank and attacks directly East.

2nd Pz after destroying the pocket swings South and encircles Kursk with the help of 4th and 2nd Armee's.

Voronezh and Belgorod are now in a position to be taken once the pockets are cleared.

1st Pz smashes through the Russian line and encircles Stalino , Taganrog is also captured and we are only 40 miles from Rostov.

Right across the entire front the Red Army is pushed back with many enemy units trapped.

The Soviets fall back in disarray.

No attack will be mounted in the Crimea until the 2nd Hungarian Army is fully assembled.

With the General offensive now in full swing the Soviets take huge losses with over 40 Red Army units cut off.

With the destruction of these units it could produce another half million enemy casualties.

Still really good but it may drop away as the front moves forward and my rails lines are further back.

Hoping the rains stops soon, the main bonus is my Pz Armme's are way in the green.

I have finally got the supply depots right.

The pressure continues on the Volkhov River line as Red Army units continue to give up ground.

16th Armee objectives now include the capture of Vyshny Volochek as well as Okulovka and the important rail line to Kalinin.

AGC Turn 47

AGC destroys both pockets at Tula and Kursk, 3rd Pz's Southern pincer swings back towards Moscow as 2 Pz begins heading East and South.

Two Pz regiments drive towards Voronezh and find it completely undefended.

Meanwhile the Northern pincer moves closer to the objective.

The Trapped forces at Stalino are destroyed and our Pz spearheads encircle more Red Army units defending Rostov, some units push through and are now at the city.

Further North 6th Armee advances and encircles Kharkov creating a salient at Belogrod.

The Russians either have to pull there troops back or face being trapped.

On the Black Sea 11th Armee begins its own attack driving back the defenders, there objective Krasnodor.

The Red Army again suffers huge losses, nearly a third of Million casualties.

However there is bad news General Von Thoma newly appointed 2nd Korps commander is heroically killed leading his men in battle.

Erich Brandenberger replaces him.

More news that actually displeases me even further General Fedor Von Bock is dismissed from Army Group Centre and Ferdinand Schoerner takes over.

Incredible Von Bock is at the gates of Moscow and could well capture the city in a matter of weeks and Berlin steps in with this ridiculous decision, do they want to lose the war.

Still looking good even with more troops arriving at the front.

Rail repair is falling behind but a new FPB has arrived in the South to help with the advance of Army Group South.

Some concern in the centre as even with two units there they can not kept pace with the rapid advance.

More Interference from Berlin despite the big success in The Ukraine Gerd Von Rundstedt is dismissed and Walter Model takes command.

This meddling by has got to stop it will begin to undermine all the good work and dampen morale here on the Eastern front.

Many successes across the front including the capture of Osinovets, Leningrad's last land / water supply corridor is lost.

This should be the end for the city, I'm now moving part of 4th Pz Armee down to Kalinin for the drive on Moscow, the rest will follow in good order.

Further south 16th Armee continues to take ground, there is still much to do as i want to clear the Leningrad / Moscow rail line completely.

AGC Turn 48

There has been some stunning turn of events at the battle for Moscow, Elements of Schmidt's 49th Pz Korps have punched through the Russian rear and formed a narrow corridor to the city itself.

With the gap open a Pz regt from the Korps pushed through and captured the undefended city Ryazan, its expected the unit will be cut off but a relief force is hoping to get there soon to relieve it.

In the North Kunszen 57th Pz Korps attacks in strength with support of 9th Armee and three Red Army units are trapped, other Russian units are pushed back.

Further South 2nd Pz and 4th Armee consolidate there hold on Voronezh, also parts 2nd Pz and 2nd Armee together with 6th cut off the Belgorod salient.

The Soviets seem shattered and in disarray, is this the end will The Russians collapse.

As mentioned earlier 6th Armee has helped with encirclement of Belgorod as well as assisting 17th Armee's drive on Voroshilovgrad.

1st Pz Armee destroys the pocket in the Don basin and reposition for the attack on Rostov.

Im holding both Romanian Armies back for the time being, further South the 11th and 2nd Hungarian drive on down The Black Sea coast.

OB Turn 48

My continued success and the amount of casualties the Russians are taking they can barely maintain there Army above 4 Million,

On the Eastern Front, there is just a chance the war could be over by July but it will depend on 3rd Pz can hold the corridor to Moscow long enough for more troops to arrive and relieve them.

Despite great advances by the Ostheer in all sectors and rails being further back supply continues to be good.
With Pz Armee's being over supplied even better.
