AGC Turn 40

The Russians keep hammering away at 2nd and 4th Armee's which is concerning but there line in front of Moscow is thin.

So tempting to try to punch through and see what the AI response is, though I feel its to early as my troops are only just recovering.

AGS Turn 40

Although things look fine I still feel the Red Army is still a major threat as the Romanians are in desperate need of being completely withdrawn from the line to refit.

Two good things down that way I manage to cut off 5 Red Army units which the AI could not rescue.

The other was that I had the 2nd Rom Korp as a strategic reserve guarding the entrance of the Crimea. I had these troops there in case the line really collapsed.

I was determined to hold the peninsula, I have now moved them forward hopefully next turn i will get them into the line and pull the entire 48th Pz Korp out for refit.

OB Turn 40

Well I manage to keep the Red Army under 4.5 mill but the armour continues to grow, very troubling.

In other news from OKH, LV Korps Erwin Wierow is dismissed and Dietrich Von Saucken takes command.

Well The Fuhrer and his circus clowns have some bad news coming there way very soon, I have been saving my Admin points and during April there will be wholesale changes at all levels of the Ostheer and also at OKH and OKL.

AGN Turn 41

Launch a attack against the Leningrad perimeter and push back three units, I now have troops on three sides of the city.

Also hit hit the Volhkov Line and some attacks by 16th Armee.

AGC Turn 41

Here I launched major attacks all along the Front pushing many Red Army troops back, got a lot of routs and cleared the line in front of Moscow almost.

Same here in the South counterattacks all along the line culminating in the destruction of the five trapped units.

Again a lot of routs along the line

losses Turn 41

The Red Army took some huge casualties this turn, I was hoping that by driving them back they would not move up to the line and my troops could get some rest without have to be pulled out of the line.

Although it was a big number of losses for the Soviets, I too took heavy losses particularly in Armour, we shall see if it was worth it when the AI has its turn.

Soviet Centre Front Turn 41

I thought I would put this screen shot in as the Red Army pushed through a attack and are threatening Bryansk.

Its concerning as two Armee HQ's are there but this may work to my advantage, if I am lucky I may be able to cut them off and pocket them.

always a welcome shift, combination of not much (if any) deep snow, the removal of the truck/train malus in April 42 and that you usually have a decent rail net at this stage can all underpin quite a recovery. You even get replacements starting to arrive

AGN Turn 42

Well the Red Army has abandoned Kronstadt apart from the fort troops so I attack and take the island.

I also launched attacks against the Volkhov line and the Leningrad perimeter all successful.

Leningrad is becoming more isolated.

AGC Turn 42

Well things worked out well and using 2nd Pz and the two Inf Armee's I cut off 14 Red Army Units including he Bryansk Air command HQ.

Further North I reorganised 9th and 3rd Pz In fact I pulled a lot of 3rd Pz armour out of the line, to refit just hop I didn't withdraw them to early.

AGS Turn 42

I launched quite few attacks along the whole line, 6th Armee now seems to be solid in fact I pulled one Korp out for refit.

South of 6th's position I reinforced the line with 17th Armee troops and the fresh 2nd Rom Korp.

Despite a previous statement of just withdrawing one Pz Korp here to I withdrew all armour from the line.

Losses Turn 42

The large amount of attacks yielded a lot of casualties for the Russians, but i too suffered once again more armour lost.

I have decided to take a risk and have committed two thirds of my Pz replacement Battalions, they should arrive next turn.

First winter / sudden death thoughts

Well firstly on the winter subject I was lucky dam lucky, many times I thought the line at just about every sector would fold any moment.

WITE1 winter is bad this is brutal but well worth the test, despite the almost 10 weeks of preparation put in to building a solid line you can never be prepared enough.

The Romanians can and will do the job but they either need to be double stacked with the Germans or triple stacked if its just them, unless you have forts and even then cross your fingers.

That can be difficult in the south as its open terrain and a lot of ground to cover.

The Germans have it tough to and the Panzers get wrecked but you need them in the line.

I am playing against the AI, it would have been a different situation if it was a human player I would have been in serious trouble as its my fourth game and I am no where near as good as any of the players here.

If I did this same game again the same way it could be totally different, so I am not patting myself on the back, this was first winter beginners luck.

I will say it seems to me that defending in front of Moscow is better with the defensive terrain than trying to hold Mariupol on the Black Sea.

I need to smash the AI during the summer of 42 or I have to go through the winter again facing a stronger Red Army, really want to avoid that at all costs.

I manage to hold all my victory points I captured, so that gives me a great starting point as I don't have win back lost cities again.

You actually did quite well - it just does not fell that way while it is going on! It is actually harder against the AI with its ability to 'teleport' units to wherever it decides to attack and often getting more attacks against a single spot in the line than a human opponent ever could.

Well the heavy mud has arrived, and that is fine by me as it seems the Soviets have pulled back troops.

I will use this time to continue to reorganise my forces.

Command Changes

I have been waiting some time to make changes, this is just the start as it will take quite a few Admin points to put in place those I feel will do the job.

AGN Turn 43

The noose around Leningrad tightens as I gain more ground and I am now just one hex away from the lake port of Osinovets.

Further south I do some attacks to push the Russians away from my 16th Armee lines.

AGC Turn 43

More reorganising in front of Moscow and also attacks to destroy the pocket around Bryansk.

Its a interesting situation in front of Moscow the Russians are starting to form a ring of forts around the City.

I am planning to pull 30th Korps out of the line there and send it back to the Crimea as 11th Armee is light on German Divisions.

Things are quiet down here to though I did do some attacks again just trying to get the Russians away from the lines and out of contact with my troops.

The Hungarian 2nd Army is en route to the Crimea to back up 11th Armee.

Losses Turn 43

The Red Army losses continue to mount, mine this turn were light particularly with AFV losses which was good.

My Panzers continue to refit in the Centre and South, cant do much yet with 4th Pz until Leningrad is taken.

Still going well even with the heavy mud setting in.

This is fine as with very little movement supply usage is less than if the troops were attacking.
