As per the topic.
It seems I cannot manage to achieve that in any way.

Naval Patrol command nor Interdiction at sea seem to sort any effect.
Interdiction on Odessa envision the Luftwaffe / Romanians being shot in abundance.

Is that Naval Only Ju88 squadron needed? The one that starts in Konigsberg area?

(Given there must be many things I am failing in the game considering in August I've barely taken Pskov, not even Kiev nor Smolensk and the AI seems very lenient and not attacking).

You will need to send down the Naval Patrol AOG from Luft 1 to Luft 4. This can be added to with various Rumanian units.

I use JG3 to run Escort Duties, so this needs to be based close by with Drop Tanks.

Set Luft 4 to Naval Ops = Odessa.

Create a Naval Patrol Mission in the Sea Area to interdict Odessa.

both the Ju-88 and He-111 have a good naval load out with their mines, the Do-217 have a mix of either mines or torpedos.

so if you are doing manual control add an AOG of these to the specialist naval assets.

if you are using the AI-assist, then simply tell that AOG to do a naval patrol and target Odessa - it'll redeploy to suitable bases and prob start the next turn.

Could anyone elaborate what a naval patrol hex area mission, compared to a port interdiction mission of an Air HQ does? Naval patrol can be 1x1 to 10x10 hexes, of course. Other than that I dont quite get the difference here?

the AI assist seems to set up 2*2 blocks which is a good compromise (like everything by the assist)

the advantage to a manually constructed mission is you can be very precise, there are some ports you can hit the entry hexes with interdiction but avoid flak or fighters. Also, useful trick, naval interdiction is placed in every sea hex the flight passes so you can use the in/out routes to set some very interesting patterns

as ever, you get to pull some neat stunts with full control but it takes some experience and time while the AI assist is 'good enough'

But all-in-all both types of "missions" creates naval interdiction, and fighters (of the opposing sides) fight it out over the seas and help the bombers? Its more the area covered that differs, rather than the effect and use of the air planes?

Also if you are ok with a bit of editing you could add the Romanian 101st and 102nd seaplanes units. All bar one of the aircraft already exist in the generic database. Below is the link with some more details.

yes the impact is exactly the same, the bombers plus any escorts plus any auto-interceptions all work exactly the same way off either AI assist or manual control

You can also pinch Luftwaffe specialised anti-shipping units from Western Europe. I've used those to cut off Odessa prior to 11th Army storming the city.
