Just a quick question.
I am looking at some of my Chinese air units. They are flying I-15 in 1943. They have an upgrade possible of going to P-43 or P-66 Vanguards. Both new aircraft have enough in the pool that will satisfy the upgrade. The unit is sitting on a size 9 AF with over 20K of supplies, so it seems to meet the requirements to upgrade. Yet it has been sitting there for over a week with nothing happening!
Does the upgrade happen due to a "random roll" process? Or can I force the upgrade by some means? I pulled it out of front line action to allow the upgrade but having it just sit there seems odd. Oh, it is still training etc so not really just sitting there.
I do suspect upgrades are a "random roll" process but on the off chance I can influence it to happen, I thought I might ask!

How about a picture so another person can see whether upgrades are on or off? Or if you even bother to click "upgrade now" so we can see if you tried to do it?

Sorry for the lack of clarity. "Upgrades are on" and "upgrades now" are on. One of the Upgrades now is P-43 and the other is P-66.

A picture would help. But you should be able to do it manually....GP

In this instance there is no need for a screenshot, nor is there any lack of clarity as to what is the cause of the problem. The OP is simply not pressing the appropriate buttons which are clearly designated on the air unit screen.

Read page 149 and s.16.2.3 "Aircraft Upgrades" of the manual.

Just about from day 1 of the release of AE, players have been regularly told fields in yellow are toggles. The program is carrying out exactly the orders the human has given to it. And will continue to do so until the human changes the orders.

Okay, let's see what I am doing wrong. I have the screen shots but don't seem to be able to find where they can be uploaded. They are jpegs. I clicked on the "Click here to upload" and also ticked the box about embedding the picture in the post but the Preview shows nothing.
Anyway
16.2.3
There must be at least one new plane in the pool.
There are 15 P-43 available
The following conditions must be met.
The air unit is at a base with an airfield size of 7+ Chungking is size 9
The base must have over 20,000 supplies. Chungking has 27,000 supplies

The air unit has in Yellow "Upgrade - P-43" and in Yellow "Replacements on"
What else do I need?

Okay, that screen shot appeared. Why did I not see it in the Preview panel?
So the second screenshot.

As you can see, there are 15 P-43 available.
And the first screenshot shows the base does not have 59% or worse runway and service damage. and the Aviation support is more than 1/2 of the aviation support needed.
Yet the I-15 air unit has been sitting there for over a week.

See the button near the bottom labeled UnitOOB? It is white and there is a button beside it. You have a fragment somewhere and you can not upgrade a unit if there is a fragment somewhere. Click on the button and find the fragment and get it there and combine them or disband the fragment if you want.

Ahah! Finally something that makes sense. Thank you for that.

edit: Yep, that was it. I was so used to seeing air units as XYZ Sdn/A etc that I had assumed the unit was whole as the title did not have a /A etc after it.

Yeah and not being in my face about it really works for me!
A lot going down at the moment what with a 94yo MIL being home cared by us and all the while the COVID thing making things extra stressful so someone simply pointing out something I had overlooked without snarky comments helps.
thanks again Nomad!

Yes, he does have one. But more to the point, this is an object lesson in why AE veterans are so adamant that players post screenshots along with their problems. "A picture is worth a thousand words" is never more appropriate than when applied to AE issues.

The reason the unit screenshot never appeared in the first post you tried is that you can only have one embedded picture per post (not counting smileys from the board software).
Some players get multi screenshots per post by linking to pictures stored on a picture sharing site.
