41 Grand Campaign

Axis: me, evidently still a beginner.
Soviet: AI, all at 110.

Version: Start: 1.02.06_Beta (or 1-2 earlier)
Version: End: 1.02.12_Beta

Axis HWM: 511

Ending Date: T27, 21-Dec-1941:

Why Ended: Unlikely to avoid 01-Jan-1942 sudden death. So close too. Adjacent to Orel, Rzhev and Kursk; had Tula and Sevastapol surrounded, but stopped by the blizzards. Too bad, as the Soviet front was in tatters.

Losses:
Men: Axis: 495K, Soviet: 3,577K
Guns: Axis: 7252, Soviet: 57,572
AFV: Axis: 2244, Soviet: 16,634
Air: Axis: 2635, Soviet: 15,014

41 GC
actual start date 16 Oct 21 end date 14 Jan 22
Axis , myself an intermediate gamer.
Soviet AI all at 100%

Version probably 1.02.06 to 1.02.13
Axis hwm 747
Axis Major victory Jan 7 1945 T186 I had taken every point holding city ,the Soviets finishing with a score of -86

losses
Men Axis 4,271,986. Soviet 14,940,995
Guns. Axis 75,1121 Soviet 295,412
AFV. Axis 21,169. Soviet 94,552
Planes. Axis 12,259. Soviet 52,302

Half of my plane losses were operational, got to do better next time.

Phew, finally got this one to bed, quite a slog in honesty . My seventh GC start since game release day the previous six not amounting to much for me other than a learning experience.
I enjoyed the whole experience apart from waiting for Winter 41/42 to end . It took me 15 weeks to take down the three Moscow hexes and some serious allocating of S.U and fight/rest cycles for 9th Army who I had used for this task.
Going to start a new campaign once 1.02.14 is sorted.

41 Grand Campaign

Axis: Player, first GC attempt after playing the smaller scenarios several times
Soviet: AI, Normal

Version: 1.02.14Beta only (did not see the isolation bug despite keeping an eye out for it)

Axis HWM: 498

Ending Date: Turn 29, Soviet Decisive Victory due to Sudden Loss
Leningrad was surrounded and cut off, but unable to finish mopping it up in time. Failed to push far enough in center/south, possibly too much focus on destroying soviet units instead of advancing.

Losses;
Men: Axis 485k / Soviet 3986k
Guns: Axis 4944 / Soviet 60386
AFV: Axis 1499 / Soviet 19293
Aircraft: Axis 3051 (1361 Ops) / Soviet 19582 (1617 Ops)

known bug and will be sorted when it can be. Basically the routine checks for initiative before it checks VP against win conditions. This is probably the only turn where that causes a problem as in every other instance they are the same thing.

yes, you've won vs the 1944 test. See the vs AI AAR I'm doing to see the calculations off a game where the initiative change makes sense

Ah, OK...then it's celebration time with some Erika (Marsch und Soldatenlied) in background

Yup, reading your AAR and that initiative switch is actually reflecting what is happening on map.
So, maybe that 1st July 1943 hardcoded switch may not be really hard coded after all

Hi,

just ran accross that error.

1941 Campaign
AI/Custom (all 100, Enhanced TB control )
V. 1.02.13

Turn 106 / VP 723

Axis / Soviet
Loss 3,919,497 / 11,698,504
AFV: 11,413 / 54,255

Soviets broke after winter 42/43, they must have spent everything.
And the big corps units are more easily circumvented.

The rest of the red army is now trapped in Moscow.
To the east no enemy till Irkutsk,
but the time is just too short to dash the panzers to all the victory locations.

The bug kindof spoiled the party...

This is really, realy a great game. I play since there are wargames on computer (remember UWS ?),
but this was the most challenging. And you get a lot of playtime for the money (hundrets of hours).

Playing as Axis one can allmost feel the triumph with the first successes,
and later then disbelieve, fear and dispair as they just keep on comming and the winter gets longer and longer.

In the sense of a simulation, one can see how crazy it was and how hopeless from the beginning to attack the SU.
Winnable only for armchair generals.
But well they were Nazis after all.

Just imagine what might have happend if they had won (man in the hight castle anyone?).

[Edit] PS: Soviets now at -32 VPs. Might be an idea to put in a victory condition for such "no historic" situations.
VPs below zero...

I only did 2 campaigns 1941 with points, both of them turn 68 vicotry, level normal 100. I did both of them as the German; I think the AI is not very good in reading the map. AI should take care more of the tanks, hold the line, and sometimes I think the AI gives away too much land. Anyway amazing game, best game ever about strategy ww2. The detail of the game... impresive. Can we have a game like this one but about all the war, not just the East Front. Put together the whole conflict with these game mechanics and documentation.

Losses Axis/Soviet
Men 3700k/12300k

Bugs:

Until Moscow was down in 1943 it was a hard fight. Nearly lost in winter.

If you have saves that display those bugs, send them to the developers or post them.

Vistula to Berlin

Axis: intermediate
Soviet: AI (100 normal)
Version 1.02.19
Axis Minor Victory

Losses:

Guns: 36k / 40k
AVS: 10500 / 15500

Axis released Budapest and kept it. Pocketed large Soviet formations. River Oder was held and a final counter attack to release Breslau with the rest of 6th SS-Pz Army was a last small victory. Most work was done to reorganize the frontline after T1... Great Game!
