I'm thinking a 50% off one-time coupon to everyone who has posted in the General Discussion forum in the last 30 days would be appropriate compensation for our trauma.

I don't think so.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's worth a try.

An apology would have been better.

I have to agree with Zap that there is a certain amount of risk when posting a thread here for there are sometimes unintended consequences that can put the OP in an awkward situation. There's alot of smart members here and for the most part helpful, sincere and have something to offer, which I think is great to see/read.

I realise there is a degree of paranoia in this thread but really what risk?

One of the small contracts I had was to run a stats for journalists course for a local newspaper group. The idea wasn't statistical theory but what could be called statistical commonsense. So in preparation I'd do a series of searches looking for particularly eggregious real examples.

Some of these were (unintentionally) funny and sometimes I'd post them in a thread here.

One time something that appeared to be funny/ridiculous was actually quite a grim real story. So I agreed with the other posters who had responded on the original basis that I'd delete my quotes and links and they agreed to amend their responses to delete where they had quoted me. So somewhere deep in the forum is an odd thread with a lot of apologetic posts.

I don't think it breached any rules, it certainly was never moderated, but in my view it violated a family friendly ethos in the sense that someone could easily follow the link and it wasn't nice stuff (moral being I should have checked more carefully before posting). Even if one of the mods had found it and deemed it out of bounds and closed it I doubt it would have put me in an 'awkward situation'.

Sorry Loki100, I had to look up the difference between paranoia and risk for it seemed a bit of a stretch to connect the two, also will admit I'm no academic, so parsing of words and their meaning does not come easily.

Here goes with Merriam Webster's dictionary definition of risk (n): Exposure and the possible loss or injury: danger, peril. Then there is risk (vb): 1. expose to danger (risked his life)... 2. to incur the danger of

paranoia (n): a psychosis marked by irrational delusions and irrational suspicions usu. without hallucinations - paranoid (adj or n)

Not knowing what psychosis meant got this definition:

psychosis (n): A serious mental illness (as schizophrenia) marked by loss of or greatly lessoned ability to test whether what one is thinking and feeling about the real world is really true

First I would have to ask if you are a medical doctor that can definitively say that a thread has paranoia? Again, I'm no scholar, although I am interested to find out if it is possible?

You forgot this second part:

"a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others"

Ie. the fear in this thread from Americans (at least I suspect they are Americans) that they have to soon fight for their freedom in Mel Gibson Patriot -style just because a thread got locked.

Excessive, irrational, and distrustfulness can be very subjective in their use, and frankly as an "American" I find the rest belittling and insulting at the same time, but I have the feeling you knew how they would come across, very subtle of you.

Hi Karri,

You quoted something here that's not in my physical dictionary, so googled for info about what you are talking about and found nothing about what you are relating to. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place cause it's just your opinion, not mine, thus there was no forgetting a second part. If you had not noticed, I have no fear of posting, maybe others do for a variety of reasons, but I don't. As required by Matrix forum rules I try to abide by them and do not recall any Matrix moderators trying to put words in my mouth, or change the meaning of my words to suit them, it's either a warning or some other course of action that rarely occurs in my case. I'm all for Freedom, How about you??

That sounds like you are claiming that Americans are paranoid about losing their freedoms and have to stage a guerilla war in order to retain them because of what is happening on this forum. If I were an American, I would be insulted.

You stated there is a "certain amount of risk when posting", a statement I find pretty much over the top. At worst a thread gets locked, I don't think anything happens to individuals unless they opened the thread under bad faith (as has happened a few times when the original thread was closed) or has indulged in personal abuse?

So embarrasing to have accidently crossed the line - yeah, I'd be that (I was about the thread I described), but risk?

I do have a PhD in Psychology but my field is decision making (if that helps any)

My honest opinion is that all the upset about recent events on the forum is just completely useless. Why can't everyone just say "mistakes were made" and move on?

I would say that this is a statement that does not increase the civility level around here.

Let's please drop the discussions about risk and paranoia and move on. I get where the concern is coming from, but I do believe it is misplaced. Follow the the forum rules and keep a high level of decency and civility in mind and you will not go wrong here.

I am curious to know if discussing items from the press releases, announcements and news section would be permitted here, as well as reposting images from there posted by staff members?

Then I am curious of Matrix press releases, news and events shown here:

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=5059120

Thread titled "Master of Magic: Development Diary 2 - August 2021

More specifically, the 2nd image from the bottom showing a topless female. I would repost the image, but I would be violating forum policy to do so.

Does the use and display of this image adhere to posting guidelines?

Is it appropriate to use this type of image to sell games?

Who would be the target audience?

Is the image on the left of each of those the current artwork? Or the 'original' artwork that was reinterpreted in the middle & right-hand images?

Right, I was wondering if that question was loaded. That announcement shows the original actual pixel art of Master of Magic, as well as the updated art in our new project. We're not using that image to sell the game, but rather to show that the art has been improved (and that she now wears more clothes). As for the original art decisions, you'd have to ask the original development team and publisher.

In that context, I don't see the comparison to this old pixellated art as indecent but I certainly would say that in general, posting topless images would be against the family friendly standards we have set for this forum.

Regards,

- Erik

Any chance that we can see a screenshot(s) of the proposed new forum? Will it be similar to any other existing forum? lastly: Are you going to take some sort of pol as to what members may want, or would like in the new forum?

Some good news happened in the last couple of days:

"Beginning in 2022, benefits will increase by 5.9% for a cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, the Social Security Administration announced on Wednesday, marking the biggest increase since 1982.

That translates into an additional $92 a month for the average retiree, or $1,657 in total monthly benefits, according to the Administration’s estimations. One in 4 seniors depends exclusively on those benefits as their sole source of income."

That means that inflation is higher and the monies and assets that you have saved are worthless.
