We are pleased to announce a new public tournament, with an improved and more balanced scoring system:

The Battle of Normandy Tournament

To enter, go to the tournament page and sign up HERE
The tournament follows Swiss Tournament rules: you can find the full list of rules HERE

The first round will commence on Monday, December 6th, 2021 at 9 am GMT. No further entries can be accepted after the tournament has begun.

You will challenge other players in three different "short battles" scenarios:

1 - Securing St Laurent
2 - The Merville Battery
3 - Lion Sur Mer

The Tournament will last 3 rounds, each lasting two weeks. Games are paired, so each matchup will be played both ways.

All you need to do is sign up, then the system will pair you with opponents and create your PBEM games. You will be notified by mail of when the tournament is starting and when it will be time to play your turns.

Unfortunately the scoring system is again dysfunctional. In the first games of Round 1, I was clearly winning both legs. my opponent then stopped playing so the Round finished without me being able to make any further moves. I received no extra points as compensation for this which I should have according to the Tournament rules. Accordingly, if your opponent abandons any losing games then one has no chance of getting anywhere with the Tournament.
There is no point in playing on so I shall be abandoning this Tournament.

I appear to be my own opponent so cannot access either game as its waiting for my opponent (me).

Any ideas?

The scoring system is flawed. My brother-in-law, "DieterX", has withdrawn from the Tournament. The rules state that if an opponent does not make their moves then there will be a compensatory score for the other player. This clearly did not happen and his message in the forum was ignored. I cannot see the point of continuing this Tournament as anything can happen with the scoring making this a complete waste of time.

It would appear that the Tournament rules are mismanaged; no points are awarded to those players unable to complete their games because an opponent does not make moves and the game comes to an end without the turn returning to them. I am abandoning this and all future V&V Tournaments.

I withdrew from the Battle of Normandy Tournament because of the "improved and more balanced scoring system"????
I do wish to apologise to my opponent in this round "Bullman" and I hope he receives the appropriate points compensation at the end of the round!!! I would also like to offer apologies to "Ipauperio" and "Dindomir" who will be similarly effected by the subsequent withdrawals of "ballwood" (my sister-in-law) and "gallwood" (my brother) respectively.

Hi Guys

Unfortunately, Slitherine is closed down for Christmas at the moment so I am not able to speak to them about the issues you are facing where the game actually starts play but then your opponent abandons the game.

Truly sorry for the issues you have come across.

Lance

Yes, I would like to add to that - I and another player had T (timed out) opponents and received 2 points for the round (Winter Tournament, Round 1). Doesn't seem fair. I received 800 points in Round 2 because I got a buy - that also seems unfair to everyone else in the tournament. Perhaps the average of win scores, instead?

I spoke to Slitherine about this today. about the winter tournament.

They should be fixing your scores in the next couple of days.

Hi El_Condoro
You are correct, and this has been updated with the correct 400 point BYE points for the 2 games that were flagged incorrectly.
Apologies for this mistake. It was down to a tick box in the tournament set up that flagged to use an older scoring system. (It was my mistake, thus the apology).

And thank you for flagging the issue.
