I am playing AndyMac's grand campaign with the May '42 start. After about 3 turns, I am now in my version of Coral Sea and its going VERY badly for the Americans. My first play through both US carriers were heavily damaged and lost their entire air groups without scoring any hits on the Japanese carriers...any carrier. I tried again to see if I could improve the outcome by moving my TF south, changing the CAP, and making sure my Alpha strike was escorted. I got pretty much the same result. Yorktown was sunk outright and Lexington heavily damaged without any hits in return. Is this just bad luck or bad playing? I don't expect to nuke the Japanese TF, but this is a huge one sided loss. Is there anything I can do to improve my chances of at least fighting to a draw? The only good note is that my Auzzie TF wiped out the Port Moseby invasion force.

How are you playing a scenario that was never finished?

It might be reasonable to infer that R188 downloaded the zip file (one of 14 downloads to date), extracted the scenario files into the appropriate directory and then started the game and selected that scenario.

You are both right. I originally looked at the incomplete May 42 start and went with one I thought was complete from AndyMac's repository.

But does anyone have any advice? I understand a large loss of planes (see Battle of Midway), but to lose both carriers without scoring any hits seems unlikely. I have tried combining both TFs into one force to see if there was a better result, but I am still facing the same devastating losses. My expectations aren't carrier for carrier, but I would assume the US could at least inflict some damage.

This scenario was never completed. AndyMac has not done an AI for this scenario so you are playing an unfinished broken scenario. I would not recommend continuing playing. Play a scenario that works.

If you are facing all six Japanese carriers against 2 or 3 American carriers your outcome is definitely possible...
