Another question about supply - 1/25/2022 3:06:24 AM

So I found that all these hexes in red, with a supply value from 8 to 4, actually cost India oil. If a unit lands on it, it will not repair the hex, and the value of the red supply comes directly out of oil.

Is that correct?

Just to be clear about this. This is in the 1941 Small Fleet scenario. By occupying any of these hexes, it costs the value of the supply in oil. This has made it impossible for me to capture either Singapore of Bangkok.

I am not understanding what you mean cost in oil?

That 8 should repair and It has in my game. Do you keep exchanging the hex?

Oops...

Didn't realize that UK units use 1 oil per move.

That is pretty heavy.

Okay.

But...

Another thing I am not understanding.

India has 8 oil of production. They own the 4 oil at Yenangyaung and the UK is shipping them 91 oil. And yes, I have plenty of MM.

Where is the oil?

Meanwhile... I finally got the US to ship 100 oil to India.

Looks like I need more MMs quicker...

Well, the oil from the States finally got there, but I still wonder, where is the oil from the UK? UK oil never shows up it appears.

Other than having the USA ship oil to the UK, the UK doesn't get an appreciable amount of oil until you liberate Singapore and enable the South China Sea convoy routes which allows you to obtain oil from Borneo and Sumatra (which you will likely have liberated prior to Singapore).

If you notice in your video 107 of 107 MMs are being used by the UK. The UK uses MMs for other resources first.

At the start of the 1942 scenario 35 of 105 are in use. If you are shipping a mountain of resources around the map then you are using all your MMs.

Basically you are asking for say 200 resources to be shipped when the UK has only 75 available. The computer is moving some but not others.

Cancel all your manual convoys and next turn establish them one by one paying attention to the extra MMs you have on the convoy screen.

When you go there you see on the upper left side to the left of the UK flag - production, oil, MMs available, MMs in use for new trades. You want to keep the MMs in use for new trades equal or less than the MMs available.

The USA do the same thing. It will straighten out the convoys.

You don't need to send them 100 oil a turn. Send them a little from both each turn. Build a balanced structure of units. Pay attention to the base distances and port supply.

Like here I created 2 convoys to India. One from US one from UK for 10 oil EACH. You can see 10 MMs used in new trades this turn from the 70 and 43 available.

What I don't understand though, is that for example, earlier in the war, I am using all my MMs and the UK is sending 19 oil to India, but only 9 shows up.

Is something going on in the background, such as resupply of other ports?

Later in the war, when you have much higher resource use, is it recommended to have "excess" MM that you are not using so that you can be sure to get the stuff shipped?

I hate to state the obvious, but do you have fleets at sea sucking up 10 oil?

But what is much more likely is that the AI prioritized sending supplies to ports over sending your oil to India. You said that you were using ALL of your MMs. I suspect that you didn't have enough MMs to actually ship 19 oil. The game will let you allocate up to 1/4 of your available oil or production regardless of whether you actually have the MM to deliver all of it. When creating trade to send oil and/or production you have to look carefully to see that you have the spare MMs to do what you want. It's the numbers in green (70 UK, 43 US) in the image that Al posted. The numbers in white (10 and 10) are how many of those (green) MMs you've allocated to new trades this turn.

I do this to be sure that MMs lost due to subs don't affect my logistics. I also do this since supply is handled automatically by the game so I cannot directly control how many MMs are being allocated to shipping supplies.

Yes, I realize all that mate.

Think I figured this out.

What happened was I increased the size of Port Moresby, Henderson Field, Espirito Santo and Fiji to major ports which belong to the UK, and they were sucking all the supply from my MM. Thus, no supply was getting to India.

When I cancelled all my trade routes by the UK, it still was showing that I was using all the UK MM on the production screen but in the trade routes, in fact, the UK was 115 short.

By placing a ground unit with an engineering specialty on the port that is available to have its size increased. You can see those ports by turning on supply at the top and you will see a white circle with a "+" sign inside next to the port.

The 1941 Small Ship scenario starts with a small engineer garrison near Australia.

Ah, only those ports with the "white circle with a '+' sign inside" can be increased. Thank you! I'd been trying to increase the size of other ports that don't have that symbol. {sigh}

Unit with engineer specialty in a port that is upgradable. Click supply and it will show you which ones.
