I read a post somewhere where someone stated the less aircraft on search the less *distance* they cover, is this true?

I'd like to know how UV handles search patters. Say I have 12 PBY's on 100% Naval Search in Noumea:
Will they search 360 degrees in a pie slice shaped search pattern at extended range?
Will 20-30% of the planes actually search to the West to account for space off the map?
Would a setting of 30% Naval search reduce the range of the search pattern because of the fattening of the pie slices, or would the search continue at extended range?
If that is true...
Would a carrier TF with 4 groups of SBD's set to 20% search combine their planes into the over all search effort, or does UV only account for search on a group to group basis? Does Naval Search account for planes by the group, ship, TF, or hex?
Thanks.

I'm interested to hear what anyone in the know at Matrix has to say about search as well.
At times searches are way too effective, at other times very poor.
It seems the long distance aircraft have an advantage over and above the range advantage.
Has there been any adjustment for diminishing effectiveness at long range for long range aircraft, ie each aircraft can only cover so much of the wedge at long range.
Seems to me that at extended range the aircraft cover several hexes of the wedge, which is of course impossible.

I'm playing a PBEM game as allies in which my CV's have remained unscouted for a total of about a dozen days in three months game time(and six of those days the CV's were disbanded in port).
My opponent(IJN) has PM,GG and Lunga and has really gone to town on scouting.
It's virtually impossible to move anything anywhere on the map without my opponent seeing it.
I, on the other hand, feel like I'm all dressed in bright flourescent colours, fighting the invisible man...or perhaps, like one of the soldiers in Predator, waiting for something to jump out of nowhere :)
