I sent 2 badly hit Hungarian air groups to the reserve to rebuild. Both were set to TPI before leaving and the Hungarians have free trained pilots in the pool. I expected that it would take around two weeks to get both groups to full strength as not a lot of trained pilots are available (but some are).

Instead I suspect that the groups have been filled up with inexperienced pilots and their EXP has dropped from 61 to 30. When I assign trained pilots manually they come with a lot more exp so I am just surprised at this giant gap in exp. Is it WAD?

could be - as you know pilots from disbanded air groups go into the TPI pool, so there is a risk if some of these were low experience they will be put into supposedly elite formations (assuming you are using TPI to designate that concept?)

No, I dont think that is it and this may be a whole other bug now that I am looking more into the details.

On T10, I disbanded one of the three Hungarian groups. It had only 3 pilots left in it (77 exp, 47 and 76). Those pilots were distributed to the other 2 groups so now the exp was 60 and 61. On T11 the 1st group received 3 fresh trained pilots manually and the exp went to 52.

So before being sent to the reserve these were the numbers:

1st group, 7 ready pilots (Max 12), 52 exp.
2nd group, 4 ready pilots (Max 12), 61 exp.

Total of 11 pilots.

No I am checking T12 and seeing some odd stuff:

1st group has only 2 ready pilots. Where is the other 5 gone? Group Exp is still at 52.
2nd group has only 2 ready pilots as well. Where did the other 2 go? Exp is still at 61.

On T13, the groups have been filled up.

1st group has 10 ready pilots, exp 35.
2nd group has 11 ready pilots, exp 30.

So from experiences of 60 and 61 we went to 35 and 30. This should not be happening.

@Joel: This may have something to do with the issue you saw that extra pilots above the max nr were disappearing. In this case it seems it has something to do with the lack of aircraft.

Do you have saves for all of this, or is this an MP game? When the pilots left, I assume there were only 2 a/c in the groups, right? Those should have become free pilots. Did your free pilots go up? Hard to explain what you are seeing, but unfortunately it's also hard to understand and/or debug things without saves.

Its PBEM. I have attached Turns 10 to 13 in the file below. To recreate this just follow the instructions on the post above.

When the air groups went to the reserve they only had 2 a/c in groups yes.

After running a test using your save, I can't explain some of what I'm seeing. It appears that the new trained pilots are not coming in (says Hungarians should get 3 per turn but I see no evidence of that). Also, the "free" pilots are not being used for the reserve (I think that is WAD). Instead, it appears that untrained pilots are filling the unit in reserve. In fact, even when I put it on TPI it got 10 new planes and 9 or 10 untrained pilots. It's possible something about the reserve is going around the TPI setting. In any case there are clearly some oddities that Pavel will need to look into when he is available. Thanks for the saves.

Why would it be WAD that free pilots are not being used? Shouldnt they pull all TPI regardless of if they are free or just trained?

Thanks for looking into this. I got lucky in that these are just 2 small Hungarian groups and not big German ones. Hope there is a fix soon.
