I had an O-47 report that it had hit a Japanese CL, are my pilots carrying bricks to drop on enemy ships?

O=47A does have a CL .30 cal gun. Might be that.

Along similar lines in December 1941, a P-35A of the 34th Pursuit Squadron piloted by 1st Lt. Samuel H. Marrett was credited with the sinking the Japanese minesweeper W-10 during the Japanese invasion of Vigan in northern Luzon. Marrett made multiple strafing runs against the W-10, until the ship blew up. The explosion was so powerful it tore a wing off of Marrett's P-35, causing him to crash into the sea.

I guess if an obsolescent fighter plane can sink a minesweeper about anything is possible.

I have seen many reported 'hits' on allied subs by Japanese recon planes, including Babs & the first Dinah-s which have no weapons... probably dropping rocks or something...

Edited. I was aware of the lower cased word meaning, but not that the (what I thought of as an) acronym is sensitive too. I shall refrain in the future.

"IJ" works. (='Imperial Japanese").

Aircraft hit reports are notoriously unreliable and exaggerated....so bad as to be basically useless information. There must be a cash bonus for hitting a ship, because all pilots wildly over report them

If you are getting tons and tons of hit reports some are going to be real, but count on there being alot of noise in there

No surprise since you're constantly getting reports of enemy ships where there are no ships. Any plane can sink a ship that isn't there.
